YusufAmirFan
Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm a big fan of the GTA series and GTA 5 looks awesome but I'm in a bit of a dilemma when it comes to getting this game. As it stands now, I don't have a console to play this game on. I used to have a Xbox 360, but got rid of it three years ago because I was sick of getting the red rings all the time. A couple years back I got a PS3, but I wasn't playing it so I sold it and the games. Still have most of my 360 games though. I was banking on the next gen consoles to be backwards compatible to play GTA 5 because it's only coming out on the 360/PS3, but unfortunately they new consoles won't be able to play older games. So now here I am. A few months away from release, without a console to play on. What should I do? I really didn't want to spend money on a console that's going to be outdated in a year or two but it looks like I'm going to have to if I want to play GTA 5. What should I get? PS3 or 360? New or used? Which system will the game be better on? Will they continue to make games for the "older" consoles even when the next gen systems come out? I really wanted to get the collector's edition, but it's $150 and if I'm going to need to get a system to play the game on I can't afford to drop ~$300 for one game... I don't want to make this a Sony vs. Microsoft thread. I'm just looking for some help and figured I'd ask my fellow GTA fans. Thanks.

walkingsickness
Personally I would buy a ps3 and play it but it doesn't it matter. The best way to play this would be on a optimised PC, but it won't be launched on the same day. So I say ps3 is the way to go. Also welcome to the forums. Oynox Slider
One point worth mentioning: Onlinegaming on the Xbox 360 costs money as well. Even it is not much, it is money as well. Nevertheless, you will have the better online community features with that. But only for money.
jogy
This is going to end up to be a Sony vs Microsoft spamfest. If you want advice go to the General Gaming Chat area. This is a section dedicated to GRAND THEFT AUTO V.
iceman4555
If I were in your postion I would look for a used PS3, you're going to save money, you won't have to purchase LIVE, plus you're going to save buying it used, just my opinion.
Guest
PS3. You don't need to pay for XBL, it's speculated to be the best looking version of the game as it's been shown in all of the gameplay demos, and games generally last longer without hackers on PS3. Oynox Slider
I say get it for PS3. They got The Last of Us coming out and GTA V will be on 1 disc. I do not see any disadvantages in more discs. If just install them like in Halo 4 or Battlefield 3, then it's ok I think. I would buy the cheaper console. Here in Germany it would be the 360. But if you are able to get a cheap PS3, take it. Kiffster
PC! Oh wait.... You're a big fan of the GTA series, but you keep selling your consoles? So you never play GTA? OK... Just get a PS3 and sell again after GTAV

Then you got to make sure you got enough GB on your hard drive. While with a PS3 you don't and you also have free online. He can enjoy the most of GTA while with Xbox 360 you got to spend another $60.
Apex
I don't know where you live but here in Sweden you can get a 360 for $150, that's not too expensive. Plus, I doubt the current gen consoles will be completely obsolete once the next gen ones come out. They'll probably last another year or two. d3ex2
Go for PS3. If you want to save some money but a super slim 12GB model and buy a HD and the mounting bracket. I got a new PS3 last month and the 500GB model was £230 but if you buy the 12GB model, 320GB HD, mounting bracket it cost £190. An Xbox is slightly cheaper (for the console itself) but keep in mind you'll be paying for online every year. Also Xbox doesn't have blu ray so it will need multiple discs. PS3 has a lot of great exclusives. I'm really looking forward to the last of us. The PS3 will be supported for years after PS4 is out. There is a lot of life left in current gen consoles. I'll be keeping my PS3 long after I buy a PS4 and I'm not getting one at launch. Finally, PS3 is the platform Rockstar have been showing the game off on. All trailers/screenshots and previews are straight from the PS3.
gtaman533
Xbox drains your money! Go with PS3 I don't have a system yet either and that is what I have my eye's on cause it'll run better plus free interwebs and no buying damn batteries every time the controller is dead. Sony does it by not digging ore into your pockets like Microsoft does. Plus it was show on PS3 to the Press

GTA 360
I'd say go for the Xbox, if you still have a load of xbox games, plus you'll be able to buy a years Xbox live with the money you would have spent buying the same specced PS3 (hard drive wise I mean) and maybe have some change left over. But if you're going to get a 360, get the Slim, and if you go for a PS3, get a slim, not the super slim. And as others have said, get a pre owned one too. Patriot_Action
PS3, for a lot of the reasons people already posted, especially the free online. They're pretty cheap now (relatively speaking).

Kuunkulta
If you don't care about playing online and have some DIY skills, buy a second hand Xbox and mod the cooling to avoid red rings. I have a 60gb version of the fatbox, and while I've never had red ring issues, few months ago I modded it around to be quieter (and dissipate heat better as a bonus). It's pretty easy and cheap, especially if you don't care about looks or possible warranty. You can just cut a big ass hole on the side of the console and slap a quiet 120-250mm fan for intake, tear out original loud output fan and attach new quiet 60-80mm fan for output. Or to preserve original plastics, just tape/cable tie fans to the bottom and rear (still recommend removing original fans) like I did: https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hpho...870212251_o.jpg I have an external power supply for the fans but you could just use Y-splitter for the original 3-pin fan connector. They're cheap to buy as well or easy to make yourself. Secondly, PS3 controller sucks. That should be reason enough as it is. YusufAmirFan
or, you wait for the PC release.....announcement....maybe.....or not PC is not an option for me because I only use laptops. After reading this thread I think I've been a bit more convinced to get the PS3 because I totally forgot that I have to pay to use Xbox online as opposed to PS3 which is free. Unless Xbox Live is cheaper now than before? Is it still $60 for 12 months?

reform
I would say get a slim PS3, but as all your old games are 360, I'd say get the slim 360. They don't redring as much as they used to. Unless of couse you don't care about your old games. In which case, PS3. Free online etc.
Kuunkulta
Secondly, PS3 controller sucks. That should be reason enough as it is. That's your opinion. Not fact. I didn't claim it to be a fact. All I'm saying is that it sucks having to spend another ~50bucks on an aftermarket controller after first buying the console But so as not to make all PS fanboys butthurt, I'll just say for the record that I don't much care for the xbox either. PC guy... Used Xboxes are damn cheap I see. Looked around at a finnish online second-hand auction website and the boxes start at 20eur for red ringed one (fix yourself, easy-ish usually I hear) and 50eur for basic working one which would suffice for gta. Might find even cheaper on ebay

The only downside is the chunky box bit on the back.
I Luke
Like everyone else has said, get a used PS3. It's silly to even buy a console at this time because of the amount of money you'll lose when you trade it back in but yeah, It's a easy decision from reading this thread. It ain't worth throwing anymore money than you need to at a console coming to the end of it's cycle.
