Idea about fuel being in the game...

Christ, you could have said this a lot shorter and actually let people read it.

I said this around two weeks ago:

i.e you can also fill up molotovs, gas cans (for portable fuelling or for trails), or even just get a high-power fuel hose from a fuelling truck's tank and spray everything with it, then light it all on fire.

Or shoot a hole in tanker and light that on fire, like in chinatown wars.

Or pack your boot full of fuel cans and jump out at the last second towards a busy intersection, causing an explosion that's twice as big as normal.

Or steal some from an oil refinery and sell it to a shady petrol station owner.

Or create an oil patch in the highway next to a demolished wall, and watch cars slide on it through the wall and off the highway.

...how would 'fuel' be if it was all this, EXCEPT fuelling up you car? Having it as part of the gameplay would surely be only a positive thing, right?

And considering all the posts saying that you have to do it almost never, what would be wrong with not having fuel, but you are able to go up to a pump with your car, and play some sort of animation and lose some money to please the role players?

I'm imagining driving on a road along the cliff next to one of the rivers, with 2 star police in pursuit. Low on ammo, low on health... low on fuel. I'll be out of gas in a matter of seconds.

I do the only thing I can do. I sharply veer my sports car off the edge of the cliff, plunging down into the canyon, the car bouncing off the rocks as they wreck the vehicle. But I escaped the police and got away with a tonne of cash.

That's just one of the possibilities.

That said, I don't want fuel in the game unless it's optional, no.

I hate having to go fill up on petrol in real life. WHY the f*ck will I want to be forced to do it in a game?

And don't give me this bullsh*t that it'll be "just like getting more ammo, buying food, etc." NO. It will not be just like those things. You don't have to buy food to refill your health, you can save your game/walk into a health pack/etc. You don't have to buy ammo, you can pick it up off of fallen enemies. Independent of this, buying food and ammo is neither fun nor tedious. Guns that never run out are stupid, never losing health in a videogame is just completely idiotic. Cars that never run out is a formula that has ALWAYS worked and ALWAYS will work.

If you're running low on gas, what will you have to do? You'll have to drive to a f*cking gas station and fill up. There would be no way to get around it, if you don't want to do it then say bye bye, unique sports car. What other ideas do you have? You have to drive to the store to pick up milk when you're out? You have to fill out insurance forms after every bumper-bashing? Any other chores you'd like added?

If it was optional then I really wouldn't care, but do 99% of gamers want to be forced to do CHORES in a videogame?

NO

I've read through your post and no, there is nothing that could possibly make filling up on petrol entertaining. Filling up minigame? I repeat:

NO

A side note about this, what would be even more gameplay enhancing is if cars blow up most easily with a full tank of gas than without. I know the ARMA game series has a mechanic like this..

The thing is, a vehicle with a full tank is actually harder to blow up than one with half full or empty tank. Take this from an experienced firefighter who has been next to them and in them. I would much rather be next to one full than one empty. It's not the fuel that ignites, it's the fumes.

I can see that most of you, it seems, didn't even read any of these ideas. TOO LONG, DIDN't READ!. Understandable.

MY POINT IS:

Basically, a fuel system doesn't have to be JUST a f*cking bar on the screen that tells you how long you have before your vehicle becomes USELESS, there are TONS of potential functionality and ways to make money, ways to add fresh activities and minigames and heists and jnos.

All of which don't need to have a fuel system for cars. They can all work independently of that. Businesses can work independent of fuel. Gas trails can work independent of car fuel.

People keep mentioning how they could run into random situations. I have to ask, why not just stop in the middle of the road and get out of the car for a few minutes to find one of them instead of forcing it on everyone.

Why can't I at least have an option? Just tell me why. I don't like getting gas, so I should at least be able to turn it off. So why the hell shouldn't I be able to turn it off. Why? What possible benefits are there to making it mandatory? You can still have all the stuff while having fuel optional, so why?

One promising hint pointing towards the absence of a refuelling feature in the game is that, so far, none of the cars shown in trailers and screenshots seem to have any gas caps. smile.gif

I only really want a fuel system to be able to sneak into a police station parking lot and Siphon the fuel out of all the parked police vehicles. The result being a slowed response of additional police cars from that station for a certain amount of time.

I just REALLY, REALLY don't like the idea of fuel for a game, no matter how easy they make it or how little time it takes. It's still a hassle. What if you're in the countryside?

Then you're an idiot for driving out to the countryside in a car low on gas. Just like you'd be an idiot for starting a new mission with a character low on health.

Explain to me why a feature I find boring and useless shouldn't be optional. Just explain that. Please tell me why I should have to deal with this bullsh*t with no option to turn it off.

Using gas as a flame weapon and buying gas stations does not mean I need to waste a single second of gameplay on a boring chore.

But what if they include it? And we're all force to refuel our car? Will you hate the game for it? Will you hate R* for adding that feature? Will u still buy the GTAV even if you really hate that feature?

I've already answered that question. No, I wouldn't hate the game and rockstar for it. I would still hate the feature and I do want to be able to disable it because it gets on my nerves.

You know, like how people disable auto aim? I don't see why this should be mandatory, which is EXACTLY what the OP is suggesting.

I really don't know in that case. But I definitely still won't like getting fuel. I don't think they're putting it in anyways, so I have no need to worry.

If R* were to decide to go ahead with a fuel system, it would be a lot more well designed and implemented that what some random jagoff modder is going to slap together.

It just does not make sense at all to make the player manage something like that. It would be worse than having malaria in far cry 2. The free roam fun we have in this game is only one group of the fans and while many of us can have fun hours upon hours on end with friends playing GTA SA or GTA IV or whatever is your definitive GTA experience. It should never take you longer than 5 minutes to drive from point a to point b in a MISSION in GTA, unless the mission is based specifically on a very long drive. Mission is capitalized because that's the key word.

In GTA, there is no gas in the cars because that's about as fun as following the traffic laws - it's not. It would be a cool feature, a step above the car washes, but nothing more than that, it would be novelty that 99% of people never use unless they need to in order to finish a mission. Mission, again, the key word there.

You ought to be able to pull in to a gas station and pump some gas, but it ought to only do something like change the gas from regular to premium, get slightly better acceleration for a limited time - something like that - and NOT a requirement to keep a car from breaking down. Just doesn't make sense, managing gas would be a boring ass chore and is already a boring chore in real life - I don't want to deal with it in a game, unless I'm just getting some premium on my way to the start line of a race or something like that, it needs to stay out of the game, just like traffic laws do, in my opinion.

Step up your imagination. Read below to see what I mean.

I like those possibilities but why exclude similar possibilities for fuel in cars? What I mean is if cars had gas then you could shoot the tanks and make the gas leak. This could be used multiple ways. One way is in a chase. You shoot the tank and when the gas all leaks out their car stops. Another way is you shoot the tank of a parked car which an enemy is using as protection. The gas leak all around him and you shoot the gas to set his ass on fire and even blow up the car. devil.gif

Regardless, I do not think this should be mandatory. An option to turn it off is a must.

Psychotic Mind

Even though this is probably just a troll thread... ("and NOT opitional"...), i'm not going to get into a long sh*tting match about fuel, but I'll say this.

I would want fuel anyway just because other games are starting to go this route. Alot of them are starting to become superior to GTA in many aspects, this is just depressing.

GTA/Rockstar needs to turn it up a notch, and break boundries like they have before in past games. This is what made GTA what it is, being different than the other games.

Since everyone is going the realism route, why the hell not?

AND BRING BACK DECAPITATION/BLOW OFF LIMBS

Driving cars ain´t free in real life due to gas prices, that´s why in gta you there should be fueling as well. Imagine how cool it would be to run out of fuel in the middle of a cop chase and you would have to steal another car or refuel. Though I understand why most people don´t want this feature.

Adding the fuel feature does bring more realism...and you're right there's more advantages but there's some disadvantages aswell. If you vehicles run outta gas, there's more stuff to do than just refuel like stealing another car or use siphoned gas from other cars and just fuel yours. Believe me, I actually filled my parents' car up, and to be honest it felt enjoyable--kinda felt like I OWNED the car. I felt like an adult, even though i'm 14. biggrin.gif

gta5freemode4eva has a VERY good point. Sure, I could drive with unlimited fuel, but it just gets boring. I don't wanna drive forever to get to where I wanna go safely. Nor do I wanna drive for 30 min. With limited gas however, all that changes, and with a game that has/will have boat-loads of features, there's more opportunity. You'll be able to have a lot of advantage over many features. Not to mention, you can explore more of the state--maybe exploring and resting at nearby towns if you're stuck in the countryside, or do crazy stuff like--you know dozingoff.gif And the fact that you could use gas as a weapon + motolovs or flamethrowers is EXCITING!! devil.gif There's many ways to use a SINGLE feature. For instance, if you're in a terrible situation where your plane is outta fuel and it's about to crash/go down, you can just jump and skydive/parachute out the plane, besides just doing it whenever you feel like it.. And to those people who gave their ideas and imagination about this gas feature, you all are truly creative rolleyes.gif

Also the option to turn the fuel feature on/off is necessary, especially in cases where people DON'T want to have gas. Then both side would be equal: those who don't mind having the gas on can fuel their cars WITH MORE POSSIBILITIES, and for those who HATE having limited gas could turn it OFF. It would solve alot of problems. Now that's my 2 cents riiiight there. wink.gif

The fuel in Deadly Premonition wasn't bad... but it was pointless. A fuel system isn't needed in these games.

GTA IV released in 2008. Nothing is depressing about games finally "starting" to catch up with a 5 year old game.
