Gifbrah
Sorry, but very unimpressed. While I like the google maps effect, I was expecting something very stylish. I would love to create a map that would blow people's socks off if I had the time or Rockstar hired me.
Markhayzy
After watching the tour my hype has boomed. That map is smaller than San Andreas and half of the map is inaccurate and make no sense Even this map is accurate Edit: A lot of typo and spelling mistake, I try to correct my post lol Edited May 31, 2013 by Cyberzone2

Kwazdog
That map resembles Hawaii more than SoCal... Last time I checked SoCal was landlocked. They will probably just have impassible mountains and deserts that replace the water to the north, east and south... It will probably just have an automated "turn around system" to direct you back to blaine county like the saints row does when you get too far off the map. Or an impassible fake grand canyon to the east. Islands are an outmoded way of game design if you ask me.

CryptReaperDorian
We won't really know the actual map size until the game's release, but what we've seen so far makes me believe the map is about the size of GTA IV's and GTA SA's maps combined (no Red Dead Redemption) without taking elevation and depth into account. I wouldn't really be that surprised either. GTA IV's map was supposed to be roughly 75% the size of GTA SA's map, but it's roughly half the size (50% of GTA SA's map). So, if this comes out closer to 20 square miles than the suggested 30 square miles (estimates), then that'll show that maps in R* titles are two-thirds of the size that the developer says they are. Anyways, I'll still the play the sh*t out of and enjoy GTA V. I can still have fun in the GTA III era Liberty City and Vice City, and those maps are tiny as fly sh*t by today's standards (even small back then). MrP4nc4ke
What the hell? How can you think that the northern part is accurate? No one outside R* has seen it. NO ONE. The press demo did not show it. Surprised by the comments like "I'm disappointed" etc. by certain members who have earlier shown at least some presence of intelligence. Two things: 1. Even if this was the actual size of the map, it would still be very big and enjoyable. 2. This is NOT the actual size of the map.

A lot of people, including me expected Los Santos the city to be as big as LC the ctiy, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The whole map of V could indeed be GTA IV and SA though. But i think if we directly compare LC with LS, LC will turn out to be bigger. Unless the scale is sooooo way off here.

jameznash
One of the locations says "Race Track", can somebody confirm that there is one in the game or link to any details? you can see it in the new blimp shot that came out with the special editions information. In LA there is a track that has an outer hard track (cars) and an inner grass track (horses I think). Looks identical in layout to the real LA track - even car park in correct location and spotlights as well, plus red letters on the roof are the same. HOPE YOU CAN BUY RACE / TRACK CAR - TUNE IT AND RACE IT.

I don't know why they connected to a road out to the country... They have not put the dam there as well - got that area a bit wrong. BUT with everyone pointing little bits out - could end up being quite close to the real map. CVG Stated in video that R* had said some of the fan made maps where very close. They could have combined it with a racing oval, or it may be that it's only a horse track, but if that means there's horses, I'm ok with that. I think we can expect towns similar to what we saw in Trevor's trailer, around 8 seconds in his trailer. And in the second trailer where you see two dudes punching eachother, those kinds of towns i think. I don't think you'll have to expect them to be very big. Noodleman
Just put this in mapping but maybe it should be in here, I worked out the explorable water area (light blue) based in land = 3.5 rdr & explorable water being 1.5 rdr, it factors in the Alamo sea... I agree with this, R* also said RDR map will be 2 times as big as SA map but it clearly wasnt. I really dont expect a 3.5 times of RDR map as they said, but Im sure the countryside and city in the game will be awesome.
Molotov69
is it just me or is that dam stupidly placed. actually the dam is not stupidly placed but the water behind the dam is. it comes from the sea how can it be higher than the city of los santos
zombie elvis
Not only have they put it in a stupid place, the blueprint actually shows the dam and the outline around the reservoir in a different place to where they put it. Just put this in mapping but maybe it should be in here, I worked out the explorable water area (light blue) based in land = 3.5 rdr & explorable water being 1.5 rdr, it factors in the Alamo sea... http://i.imgur.com/vFfvZmr.jpg You know, I always assumed that the 'explorable' water would exactly fit a rectangular map, but now you've done that, I realise there's no reason why it should, and in fact it would look weird if there was a straight rectangular border where all the detail began. I'm going to have to rethink a few things..
Booya818
It's v1 of their map and have invited people to help them with it by providing their input. I like to think of it as a master map for fan made maps. I think folk should stop just saying it's sh*t and maybe contribute to making it better. At the end of the day they have a team to some extent of graphic designers and analysts who are willing to work on it.

I've read previews where they said they could see the entire map when Franklin was jumping out of the plane. I'm not going to dig through a dozen previews to find that, but I'm rather sure they've seen the entire map, from a mile high perspective of course.
