cggc93
Do you think there's any chance V will be R*s last GTA game? Don't get me wrong: I don't like the idea but it just occurred to me; maybe that's why the went all in on this game (having every major feature every GTA game has ever had). What do you think? EvilFuture
Nah. The last this gen, definitely. Also the last for like 5 or 6 years at the least, but definitely not the last ever. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Dan Houser or somebody said something like "I don't see us stopping any time soon" or something similar to that. stranger44
I doubt it. I mean, it's not like R* is in financial trouble or anything.
The Hate
There will certainly be more GTA games after V, just not for a while. I predict GTA VI will arrive in 2019 at the earliest. The time span between the releases of GTA IV and V was 5 years and 5 months. I predict the timespan from V to VI will be even longer because of the jump to new, more powerful consoles. lh1
I don't think so. They have AGENT coming up then the next Red Dead. Plus, the next GTA will possibly be based on Northern California (with more focused on San Francisco and its surrounding areas) as well as Southern Nevada (with more focused on Las Vegas and its surrounding areas). Meezarawcks
This will deffinitely not be the last. GTA is legendary and people will throw money at it for ages to come. Now what I am more interested in is what will R* be doing next. A new Bully? RDR? Agent?

However, I don't see Rockstar doing that as they want to create their games as close as possible to their real life counterparts. It is weird that Rockstar have possibly skipped recreating Vice City in favor of the fans of GTA SA. I really do hope they do the cities or states in the Midwest or the South for the next GTA. d b
Not a chance man, they have brand new consoles coming out with endless possibilities of things to add and places to go. I expect to see another smaller gta like 3/4 so they can do what I like to call a test run before they do another large one such as SA/5. And unless people stop liking gta games I dont see them ending any time soon Edited May 30, 2013 by d b

deathdealer
It's funny you ask because the housers have a way of deciding if it will be their last GTA or not. you see, they kidnap 5 midgets and leave them inside an arena and they have to fight a tiger. If the midgets win then it will be the last gta game. this went on from gta 3 and onward. As you can see, the midgets haven't won yet.

So what you're saying, is 5 innocent midgets get mauled before every new GTA game? So that means that basically GTA will continue until the end of the world, which happened last year. gta5freemode4eva
Dan Houser said that this would be the last installment of the game as GTA has never actually been financially successful (Source - Game Informer, November 2012). This IS why they are trying to get everything they always wanted to include, into V. Another unfortunate reason is that they didn't want to turn into a "Friday the 13th" company and just keep on bringing out rubbish sequels. Below is a segment of the interview... Fisha695
As much as I would like it to be LV, SF, or maybe even Vice City... don't you think it would be nice to have a new city? Honestly I would love to see a Texas based GTA city/state as it could combine the Vice City type feel though maybe a bit more modern (Corpus Christi type area) as well as the big cities & then Farmland (which could kind of cover the midwest feeling that people want) as well as desert & little towns. Hawaii I think would be a neat change of pace too, though maybe not for a "numbered" game but for some little incremental game like Vice City or San Andreas was. Speaking of Vice City people (including myself) keep saying we want it back, however I have to ask would a modern (2013+) Vice City have the same appeal as the 1980s themed version? Personally I don't think it would. A return to London or Europe in general could be neat, especially with the possibility of huge maps on the next-gen consoles where an actual small Europe (UK to Finland to Germany to Belarus/Ukraine to Greece to Italy to Spain/Portugal to France). Size wise it's hard to determine without playing V but I'm thinking somewhere between the size of the Liberty City map & the Los Santos map for the size of each country with Belarus/Ukraine & Greece being on the smaller side while UK, Italy & Finland come in on the medium side with France, Germany & Spain/Portugal coming in on the bigger side. Have each area setup where they not only represent the real thing in architecture and storyline ideas but in vehicles also (different types based on what's popular in those real areas as well as left-hand drive in the UK). I've always wanted to see Australia too & beings that it's an Island in real life the map kind of writes itself haha. there last ever game will be the one with every every GTA city in it! So the game that came out 1997/1998?

saintsrow
Take a look at the trends. There are things to consider regarding the viability of a new GTA game. 1. GTA games are so densely and richly designed, and do not consist of blocks of cut-and-paste repetition like other big open world games, so that the sheer scale of design effort needed for the next GTA world may break the budget, not even including the game mechanics, media and storyline. Producing the next GTA may just be too expensive to break even. 2. More generally, the next gen consoles are really TV set-top boxes designed to drain the general populace of every shred of income and privacy we have left, selling us out to every media company, content provider, cable company, advertising aggregator and social media vampire corporation that will rise up in the next 10 years. Labeling these devices and their business model as game consoles is a mere afterthought. I expect that the installed base and the game market for these platforms will develop so slowly that game companies will be ecstatic to sell 1 or 2 million games of a given title. This strategy to be the next set-top box may fail so badly, that not only will the interactive set-top market collapse (a market which has been tried and failed for the last 40 years, by the way), but they will bring down the entire video game industry with them. 3. Our only hope is that after 10 years of gameless hell and the near destruction of the video game business, the video game business will rise again, on its own merits, after all the corporate leeches mentioned in statement 1 have gone down the rathole, pulling 100 billion dollars of investor funding in with them. Then, with new, pure-play, truly next gen gaming consoles, made by new companies, HD gaming will rise again and perhaps the GTA franchise will again dominate the landscape. But that could be 12 to 15 years from now.
