For those who are worried about only 1 city...

Just because there is only 1 city (Los Santos), doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the map will be an open wasteland. I'm 99% positive there will be SEVERAL towns. What's wrong with TOWNS? We already know there will be a Sandy Shores town. We only got a glimpse of it in one of the trailers, but towns can be large enough to be interesting.

I don't know if THIS area is in Sandy Shores, or another town, but it reminds me a lot about San Andreas.

Also, Red Dead Redemption was entirely made up of towns. RDR was a GREAT game, in spite of not having a huge metropolis. GTAV does have Los Santos, and I believe that there will be towns that are decently sized spread throughout the countryside. They will probably be slightly larger than the towns we saw in RDR.

I really don't see why people are so bent out of shape that there wasn't another huge city in addition to LS. There is going to be a bit of everything, and these small towns are going to be great to explore. I don't remember anyone complaining about not having larger towns, or even a city in RDR. Rockstar knows how to make interesting environments, and I can't wait to check out these towns.

I agree. I really don't mind LS being the only city. Like you said we'll have towns so it's not just going to be LS and endless countryside with nothing out there.

SF and LV honestly felt tacked on in SA. I would rather R* focus their attention on one very detailed city and make towns more interesting.

I just hope the towns are pretty big. Not like Los Santos big, but just like maybe 10% Los Santos. But either way the towns are awesome. I loved them in San Andreas!

I LOVED Blackwater. In fact, every single town in RDR felt like it had it's own personality. Each was unique, and you never felt like you were seeing the same houses and barns everywhere. Rockstar knows what they are doing.

I only want a few towns in there. I want a big countryside/desert to explore away from civilization. RDR felt perfect with that. While GTA SA ruin their countryside with little to explore or do.

So all in all I like to see:

Los Santos

2 - 3 Big towns

1 - 4 small towns

THE REST COUNTRYSIDE/DESERT filled with animals and a good place to explore.

Military Base - ( I forgot about this and minwager reminded me )

Exactly.

I'm not worried because Rockstar never dissapointed me. I will start being more cynical once they do, but until then they've my trust.

I'm pretty sure that the screen you posted isn't Sandy Shores. That looks like quite a leafy area, whereas Sandy Shores seems as though it will be in the desert/Alamo Sea. I think the countryside will be diverse enough for me to spend almost my entire time out there, but I still understand why people are annoyed that Los Santos is a bit smaller than expected, because they are looking more forward to the city than countryside.

Yeah I agree OP! The map is gonna be massive! R* still sayin that it's the biggest map ever. And I definitely won't mind if LS is the only big city in the game. The game will still be the best game ever made. And the map will definitely not just be an open wasteland. There's gonna be lotsa smaller towns, interesting landmarks etc. The map will be one huge fun playground biggrin.gif

BUT, I'm just sayin, another big city (which is possible) would just make such an awesome game even more awesome....

Thank you. This actually helped me, I was kinda worried/disappointed when I saw the city, the first thing I started thinking about was Mafia 2. There aren't many blocks in this city and I've just played through L.A. Noire for the 4th time and that city has A LOT of f*cking blocks. But you're right, there will be towns in this game, small towns are just as fun as any.

The only things that keeps worrying me is the fact that the makers of MC is "helping" R* out with the steering, and how they will do with the ragdoll system, I love GTA IV ragdoll system, I'm afraid that they will make it too realistic or like Skate 3 where it looks like the character is made of iron when he falls.

I'd love another city as much as anyone, but at some point you have to accept that they can only spend so much time and money developing a game before it becomes unprofitable. I don't know how much they spent on this game so far, but I bet it's the most expensive video game ever developed.

The countryside/small towns area is going to be my favorite part of the game. I'm glad there's going to be a lot of it.

There's plenty, actually. I can understand why, too. Los Santos is pretty small, and it could be said that its size in relation to the rest of the map is unbalanced if it is in fact like 1/8th of the map as some previews have claimed. I think it's a rational concern and a valid criticism of the game's world design. I just don't happen to agree with them.

There's also many who are under the impression that the countryside will be empty and devoid of anything to do. In their minds: city = content, countryside = wasted space.

Parentheses to the rescue! I'd say they're being quite irrational.

When I heard it pretty much the size of LC I was glad... People are just to greedy. There will be plenty of other places. Just appreciate that this game dient come out in spring.

I'm going to go a little off topic and say something slightly controversial.

GTA:SA is undoubtedly a great game, but the story could have arguably been so much better if SF and LV hadn't been included. It would have meant that the story could have been really focused on the street gangs and more of the game world could have been a much larger Los Santos with more of the districts and areas of L.A. better represented. I think it would have lead to a much better atmosphere and a much gritter, focused and brutal storyline about the realities of gang life. I think all the mucking about in San Fierro, the desert and Las Venturas distracted from what could have been a much better story.

Still, GTA:SA is what it is, and it will go down as one of the all time greatest games.

If anything, it's GTA:V's focus on heists that would have benefited from having additional cities.

But c'est la vie.

I can't agree with this more. As much as I love both cities, I felt like the game should have stayed in Los Santos in the first place, with plenty of surrounding countryside and small towns.

LE GASP, Look what GTA V is doing!

The thing is, most of the screens of the rural towns don't look in any way larger than the bland towns in San Andreas.

An Alderney sized city would have been enough for me, and I don't see why it couldn't/can't be done.

I've also came to the realization of the one city and am now okay with it. I know there will be tons of towns and the Desert of course which I would assume would be huge.

And the gigantic mountain side. It'll be good. I know it.

Hopefully outside of the city we get some nice driving roads, something that SA lacked.

I'd like to drive next to a huge cliff, be able to look down and see animals roaming, people dirt biking. Hopefully there's a few urban structures in the rural areas too, I liked that tunnel in Las Venturas.

The huge sea in the middle should also give a bit of variety.

but imagine going to hd era las venturas. that would be pretty amazing. Future DLC is likely. I see a lot of possible future content for this game

They wouldn't do something as big as another city for a DLC, but if they did, it would be awesome if for one DLC they make SF and another they make LV and then later on down the road make a complete edition with all three cities smile.gif

@Assmilk, you realise the hardest part about making a new GTA game is creating the map, right? There's no way they could create a new map and sell it at DLC prices without losing a tonne of money.
