Bigging up the multiplayer

So on quite a few occasions, Rockstar employees have been telling us how amazing and revolutionary the online multiplayer will be. The Benz himself said that he believes GTA V will revolutionise open world multiplayer the same way GTA III revolutionised open world singleplayer.

But what could make it so good that it would blow us away? What'd do it for me is GTA MMO style. You earn money in certain ways, doing heists with your crew, racing, killing etc. With what you earn you can buy properties, vehicles, weapons and so on. Basically building your fourth character up online along with everyone else.

What would do it for you?

Oooh, that actually sounds somewhat possible, since we already know we'll have a garage in multiplayer.

Excuse me? As it happens I very much prefer a good singleplayer experience over a multiplayer one. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy multiplayer as well. confused.gif

Never said you couldn't. Just saying Single Player is better then Multiplayer. GTA is base on Single Player and will always be a Single Player game. Multiplayer will always be a add on.

This has a good chance of happening to be honest. Only the player count in the world won't be that of a MMO.

@Redx165: Ok I get that. I'm asking what might make multiplayer good, not wether MP will be better than SP.

@WwinterJ: if Rockstar could pull off 32 player online, it could truly be an incredibly fun experience.

Honestly I feel if they improve on Red Dead Redemption then it will be great.

When you go to play MP you start in a Free Roam ( Just like Red Dead ) and you can do a lot of activities. Maybe put heist in there with gang wars and etc.. They can improve so much on MP if they choose to.

Not really. It's common in many RPG's to be able to purchase property and goods and to have a character creation feature.

All but one of the things I listed is in the SP so it be so out of place online.

There might be a garage or so it is implicated but lets think about it how are you going to own properties everyone else will buy as well? Chances are you won't and there will be many useable garages through out the map for everyone to use. You go to a garage pick the car you want and change it and off you go. So say I'm driving a Saber GT and I want to change to my Banshee I go to one of these garages and a list of all of your vehicles shows up on your screen you pick your car and off you go. The customizable shops will allow you co customize your car online like it will in single player. Same thing could go for the Marinas, Airport hangers ect. This is how I see it working Because everyone cannot own the same properties it just wouldn't work. As for crew heists and other possible jobs, I can see them happening online to make money to buy the vehicles and clothes weapons ect. that you may want.

It never even clicked with me until now... so that means if we have a garage in multiplayer, we have a "place" we call our home... so would everybody's home be the same? Maybe when you switch to multiplayer it's like an open-world lobby... everybody has a home to live in and can make upgrades (TV's, helipads, etc) using the money earnt in heists. Just wondering how they would limit the number of people at a time though.

sh*t just got interesting.

@KingBear08: I see your point but I think it could still work. Think of how it works in playstation home (if you've ever played it). Or even better would be that almost all residential buildings share a number of interiors, like in San Andreas. (Especially during the Burgular side mission)

I guess each new property you buy, be it a house, garage or any other kind of place you can buy, would also be a new starting spawnpoint for when you enter multiplayer.

Agree - if max players is 24 in free roam, have 24 'generic' properties on the map that are changed when you spawn in depending on your progress/ leveling through the MP. So if you're wealthy various amendments you've made to the property will spawn with you, e.g. pool, spa, harem, gun rack, tennis court, etc.

Still has the problem of location but something we'd have to live with unless there's so many 'generic' properties that the likelihood of Goldilocks sleeping in your bed is minute.

Edit: Actually, server matchmaking could be based on property location so that no players with the same property go into the same server. Problem solved.

Man, I haven't even been able to come to terms with how awesome multiplayer could be. I'm still getting my head around SP.

So from the sounds of things we've got like a 4th protag that we can customise and use for all multiplayer game modes? Is this correct or have the details not been confirmed?

If that's what it is, it is amazing. If you can do near enough 'most' of the things you can in SP in free mode, that'll nearly be my GTA dream come true (my GTA dream is to have the full game co-op)

Pretty much been confirmed, yeah. The previewers told us Rockstar said the slot was for our multiplayer character, and the Collector's Edition details said the classic characters that come with it would be used in the "Character Creation System".

That has got me really excited about multiplayer. I wish they would reveal some more info soon.

I guess when they said that this would revolutionize open world multiplayer, they weren't kidding!

It would make more sense and be less complicated if there was one central place like an apartment building where players in the lobby could go to to load their own apartment room.

If by MMO you mean Multiplayer RPG, then I can see this happening. Especially with the skills, character/car customisation and whatnot; it wouldn't seem too far a step, considering it's GTA.

Wow man calm down. I only played IV's multiplayer once or twice. I was more into SP as well, but no need to be putting it down for others who want to enjoy it.

We get it GTA begun as a SP game. So did many other games but due to the shift in the industry MP has taken a big leap forward.

Let people enjoy it how they want.

Gang Wars from Max Payne 3 should return in GTA V. This would be so god damn awesome... I'm really hoping we get this. I have a feeling that it will be the ultimate experience.

Tell the developers that now. They'll tell you how goddamn stupid you are. confused.gif I like them both equally. But for the most part people bought gta 4 for the mulitplayer.

The way that might work is to have the world of the host be changed.

So if you host a game but haven't got any property, cars, weapons, etc. it will be harder to do a lot of stuff. You don't own an airport so it's way harder to get a plane. You don't own any garages so I'll have to hunt if I want a nice car. You don't own any property, so I can't stock up on weapons there.

If they set it, or allowed you to set it, so that fellow Crew members only could access your stuff it would add value to being in a Crew.

Seems like a kinda logical extension of the Free Roam as Hub element introduced in Red Dead Redemption.

If you were in a Crew and did some missions with Crew mates it would make it easier and perhaps you could get a Exp/Cash bonus for using Crew mates. That would work particularly well for Gang Wars. Start a gang war and others can choose to go against you or join you (so long as the sides are equal) with Crew Mates getting a exp/cash bonus for helping and Rival Crews getting the same bonus for hindering.

Yes. This is probably the most realistic way of doing it.

That'd bone for matchmaking.

How about theres a large section for housing with the same exteriors, but the interior loads to what you've got inside.
