mattfab
Just want to know if anyone else drove around and timed how long it takes to drive around the edge of liberty city and what they got, since liberty city is said to be the size of the city of Los santos. I have heard different conclusions, but this is why I got 15 minutes. I drove in a regular taxi at mostly average speed http://postimg.org/image/gyc3yjw5v
Mister Pink
When I fist get GTA V, I think I'm going to want to smoke a fat one then drive by the traffic laws (or not) around the whole map and take in the sights. I'll time it too. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

d3ex2
It will take at least 40 minutes to drive around the entire map (land). If RDR was 3.5x the size it is it would take 80 minutes non stop riding on horse. Obviously horse isn't as fast as car. I'd say 40-60 minutes non stop to drive the entire map depending on how fast you go.

Grand Theft Savage
Somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes to explore every part of the city. That's my guess. 15 would suck.

Exploring the inside of the city won't take 15 minutes of course, but driving around the perimeter of the city might.
chop chop
if thats the case i wonder if taxi's will be able to take you out of the city and towards the mountains. Thats sounds like a good plan drive around the whole map before planning

Or I might force him to drive the cab off the cliffs with me inside.
jonstunt
15 minutes to circle the city centre on the highways? That doesn't seem too bad to me, I could do a circuit of LC in a similar time. Look, I work hard, usually getting home at 7:00 o'clock at night and I have busy weekends so my gaming hours are limited. The last thing I want to do when I do get a few hours to spend gaming is to spend hours driving through blocks upon blocks of copy paste buildings trying to get to the next mission. Making the city too big will make navigation oppressive and ruin the fun factor for me. It's a problem I sometimes have when playing Skyrim, I turn my console on and sit down for a bit of dungeon raiding action, but all I end up really doing is running from one city to another and not much else before it's time to hit the sack. People who say they want the map to be so much bigger have too much time on their hands. I say keep the city a similar size to LC but pack it full of much more interesting characters and places. waikzguy8998
That would definitely make for a huge map then. I did that with SA a while back. Just got a motorcycle, stayed to the outer-most roads/freeways and saw how long it took to circle San Andreas going full speed. At full-speed, timer paused when i fell off the bike, lol, and no other stops, it still took 10+ mins to make a full circle from Las Paysadads west towards San Fierro, around Angel Pine/Chilliad, down to LS, back up to LV, then back to Payasadas. Now take that 10 mins, and multiply it by the size increase in the game (e.g. SA+RDR+IV) Im guessing maybe 8-10 to cross or circle LS and gonna go out on a limb and say 30 mins to circle the full map this time (water not included)

Well on the parts of the map that are released, the west shore and the east shore both have what seems to be a highway going north, so that's why I assume that

J I do kinda agree with you... kinda. I work long hours, combined with family and work commitments the time i'm able to really get into a game is limited. When people moan about a game only lasting 8-10 hours i consider that about the right length for me, certainly in story driven narrative games such as MP3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite etc, they worked out just right, for me. However, GTA4 and RDR, I could keep going back to, more so than any of the more closed narrative games, so much so, that i've clocked in well over 100+ hours in the GTA4 games (BOGT/TLATD) - and even today, I can still find things in those that I've not seen before, 5 years after release. GTAV I hope will be even more huge, offering even greater exploration and discovery than these previous titles. For me, GTAV (and any add-on's that go along with it) will probably hold my attention, off and on, for years to come, certainly if it comes close to RDR and the GTA4 games. And that's before we talk about it being release on PC or Next Gen.
BlackNoise
15 minutes sounds fine to me. The last four open world games R* published all seemed good in size. Huge open worlds sound good, but I honestly don't think I want them to get much bigger than we're use to. Just Cause 2 was way too big for me. The way R* describes GTA V's size sounds perfect IMO. I hope its atleast a 30+ min trip in V.

Decardo
The game has been in development since 2008, It wouldn't surprise me if it took 60 minutes to get across the whole entire map.
