ReconzVenture
Recently Rockstar has lifted their all powerful YouTube channel deleting hammer and has allowed full playthroughs of all their games including GTAIV, RDR and MP3. Being very fond of youtuber let's plays (ssohpkc being my favourite) I was wondering do you think rockstar will allow playthroughs of gta v. With the necessary spoiler warnings and disclaimers, and the huge gaming popularity on YouTube, I just don't see why they wouldn't allow it. Plus... I want to do one myself

I've bought far cry 3, fallout new Vegas and dead island all because I watched part of a let's play and it looked really fun. I know a few other people that have done that too. YouTube is the gaming industries biggest advertisement, and I don't think Rockstar are using it properly.

Frantz Fuchs
How can they delete videos like that? If the game is out, they don't have the right to do that, do they?
BlackNoise
I didn't even know this existed. I've seen a few first 15-30 minute videos, but I had no idea people were making full playthroughs. I'm surprised it's allowed.

I'm surprised it's allowed. It's a very popular thing, not just on Rockstar games obviously but all games. I was saying this just because Rockstar didn't allow it, they would claim for copyright and delete the video. However more and more gaming companies are realising this is a great way to spread the popularity of their games and are allowing. Rockstar have finally followed with this, but because gta is a new game, and heavily story driven they may go back on themselves. But yeah, full playthroughs are big on YouTube

I've bought tons of games because I saw gameplay, it's just a standard thing I do before buying them. And if I'm interested in a game, want to watch some gameplay and can't find any, I simply don't buy it. YT is the perfect check for scams before buying anything. Johan
They told me a few months ago that they allow you to upload but if it has spoilers of any kind they will bring it down, that's the only things we'll see when V releases unless those guys want to get deleted. I would have never paid any attention to far cry 3. But I saw the first 10 minutes of a playthrough and was sold. I bought it the next day and it was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a video game

They probably will ban in the beginning. Just like you said, it's heavily story driven, so I don't think they want people giving away that story for free. It probably is a good way to market a game for free, so maybe they won't care? I'm assuming the only people who watch are people who already bought the game or people who are interested in buying it. solofme
hmm. when the ps4 "direct youtube share" comes out... will they delete them too? Yea I was thinking the same thing. Sony must have struck a deal with all the publishers that in the future these bans don't happen anymore, otherwise they would take away a big selling point of the PS4
Nopheros
I think people will be allowed to as long as they have commentary over it, and not just showing ending scenes, without commentary.

Sony must have struck a deal with all the publishers that in the future these bans don't happen anymore, otherwise they would take away a big selling point of the PS4 There will be parts of a game that the maker does not want people to be able to see," Yoshida said. "For example, on Vita, developers can in certain scenes disable the feature that lets users take a screenshot, and [the Share function on PS4] will have a similar mechanism. The creator may not want to make video of the final boss shareable, for instance." Source Share button info
Murad96
If people are gonna show the ending of the game, they shouldn't upload video's called "GTA V - Steven's Death" or something because then so many people would have seen the title in the recommended videos list and know spoilers. Celticfang
The way it works (from SSOH and others) is that you can upload walkthroughs....Provided you follow R*'s terms on it on any game (which basically, and this is from memory boils down to for the Max Payne series at least: 'DON'T JUST PLAY THROUGH THE GAME, LEAVE OUT ANY TV/RADIO SEGMENTS, DON'T SHOW THE ENDING OR IMPORTANT CUTSCENES'), I don't have any headphones so I can't go listen to the precise wording, However there was (as of that MP3 video that got mentioned) either an email link, or a section on R*'s website tha lists the terms and conditions. SSOH had to leave all the TV and radio stuff alone as that was one of R*'s rules for uploading. So in V's case, I could go and upload it, provided I leave out the opening 20 minutes, ending cutscene and five key moments, as R* have told me to. Yes, it'd suck, however it's their game, they can dicate how people upload it. The issue though (not just with the radio) is that you are not supposed to upload the walkthrough unless you have permission, or in broader terms, are part of TGS, Machinima, or one of those big networks that work with the publishers. If I'm on my own and post a walkthrough or a modded video, then I'm fully at the mercy of the banhammer.. If I'm part of TGS for instance, nothing can happen. Sega can for instance take down every Shining Force video they see, but they can't actually get my channel removed. Illustrating that: Chris Smoove (surely you heard of him? left his old network, and explained in a video he suddenly got strikes on his AC3, Uncharted and even GTA vids, he'd left the network he was with (Machinima IIRC?) and now he wasn't protected, as soon as he joined his new network, the strikes started being appealed and removed. Also major LOL at that MC (Ban)Hammer pic EDIT: Tetraninja had to leave his LA Noire LP unfinished as he wasn't allowed, again by R* to post the entire ending, it was left before the final mission.
