What was the point of "Dam and Blast"?

All the heist planning missions I understand, but Dam and Blast was just weird. CJ's just like "I'm gonna go shut off the cities power source" Did it even contribute in the actual heist?

It is an excuse to use the Parachute.

If you played through the "Heist" you would be aware of it (the power cut) during the mission.

Don't skip through the cut-scenes.

Most of the missions in the game are silly or odd ways of doing things. "That's Entertainment". smile.gif

Haha yeah I know that (Green Goo is a prime example) but I forgot how it contributed to the actual heist.

Zero activates the explosives when you go to the forklift during the heist, to unlock the gate for the Triad members.

Flesh-n-Bone

I never understood this mission at all.

In the cutscene, CJ's about to point things out on the layout then he's interrupted with "Where's the coffee and donuts" and suddenly the cutscene pretty much ends after CJ talks about shutting off the city's power source.

Then during the mission, it seems like he flies that high up for no good reason just to land in that area that you can access by boat or even driving off the cliff above it and during the mission, it seems like they are aware of an intruder even though you manage to remain out of sight without being caught. That brings me to the final cutscene where police are somehow aware of this and arrive in time. How'd that happen?

It's more or less what is done in some casino heist movies like "ocean's eleven". I always remeber this movie when I play that mission biggrin.gif

Dam and Blast was vital to the heist set up.

I will do my best to explain it so you don't miss anything. In the mission CJ goes to the dam to place the 'charges' which is dynamite to blow out the power source to Las Venturas. This was required so that CJ and Woozie's men could sneak into the vault at Caligula's 'undetected'

You will hear after Carl knocks out the two guards with sleeping gas that Zero says -

'Ok good, I've hacked their emergency lighting protocols. I'm going to blow the charges you placed at the dam. Here goes nothing...BZZIIZZ

Wow! I didn't think that was going to work!'

So there's your explanation for Dam and Blast.

I believe that the mission point is "Why did CJ have to fly a Dakota and bail out?" He could have approached by land or lake to accomplish the facility invasion. Which he does if he missed the parachute target.

Rockstar Games intended the mission to be CJ parachutes out at a high altitude to avoid police or security detection. That's why you don't drive to the dam entrance. In hindsight, Rockstar Games should of at least allowed the option to drive there and deal with a security breach and a shoot out. It's all about giving us options IMO but honestly flying is faster

Short answer: The explosives. What I don't understand is why didn't CJ simply unplug the backup generators?

Backup generators are hard wired to the circuit panels, he would have had to cut them.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure that leaving a plane in mid-air (thus allowing it to crash), then opening a parachute to come down (a parachute is quite visible) is much less discrete than just approaching the dam by water. Sincé the point of doing that in the first place was discretion (you could have just shot everyone who stood on your way, as always, but it would have drawn too much attention), it's no-sense.
