No large aircraft in multiplayer

Los Santos Fire

Let me start by saying that I have absolutely no proof of this, its just my opinion.

I have a feeling that there will be no flyable large aircraft in GTAO. They will most likely have the combat jets, but no larger one. It just seems like there will be some kind of technical problem that will prevent it. What so you guys think?

And don't flame or just spout off without thinking - what is your honest opinion?

I think the Multiplayer will be Limited in terms of Vehicles once again.. Though, I have literally no idea if it will or not.. I ain't going to be surprised either way, we'll have to wait and see.

There is a un-confirmed PC version that is yet to be confirmed as time has told us with GTA.

I am sure we can fly big planes in multiplayer. Why wouldn't we be able? Rockstar can pull it off. smile.gif

I had this feeling too. I agree i think there will be limited number of aircrafts in multiplayer. If there are lots of planes flying it might crash the game or something.

How would large aircraft be a technical problem? The only problem I can see with them would be lag, as they'd be the largest object to travel at speed. However, JC MP is able to deal with this fine, unless you mean many times bigger than those in JC2 tounge.gif

There is no multiplayer in Just Cause.

The mod, yes.

In vanillla game, no.

However, I guess it's important to note this is a mod for PC (obviously), so I'm not sure how consoles would be able to handle it.

Can we make a rule that in the future anytime were discussing what will be in or out of the game we will automatically disregard user made mods?

Oh, this was more of an example showing that it can be done, and well in the case of JCMP. If a mod is able to work effectively, then I wouldn't be one to doubt the skill of the developers themselves in getting them to work, y'know?

Perhaps, but the question that pops into my mind is if it works so well why wasn't it included in the original game? Why did someone have to basically "hack" the game to force it in?

I can't really answer that question - JC2 is a game that would have dearly benefited to having a multiplayer, as the mod shows. I do know that in early stages of development, the syncing was terrible and the lag measurable in seconds, but this is a mod we're talking about...

However, it seems that implementing good syncing and minimal lag required little to do with specially adapting it for large aircraft. This could be comparable to what would happen in GTAV, but they're such different games in terms of game density I'd wonder how it would handle a very large object affecting the physics of many, many objects.

Why? It´s completely relevant.

And lots of games don´t include multiplayer. Why it wasn´t included in the original Just Cause 2 is completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

You're correct. We are talking about flyable large aircraft in multiplayer. What are your thoughts?

I don't know enough about game development to solidly know whether this is possible. My sense would be that rockstar will do what it can to put everything in free roam.

They said they plan on surprising us with multiplayer. Obviously they will have many fresh multiplayer modes, they always do. Well how surprising and impressive and newsworthy would it be if they announced you can have dogfights? Like specifically a fighter jet mode! That'd perk some ears and get some headlines.

I still think multiplayer will be only 16 people though. Again, I have no evidence, but I would point out that max Payne only had a maximum of 16 players, and the multiplayer on that was very robust.

This has been on my mind as well as of late. I pray that they dont leave the big planes out of multiplayer. Would be awesome to get a huge group of your friends in the andromada and you all jump out at once.

Tell you what would be cool: cross platform MP. Someone said that because they said "Grand theft auto online" that this was the case, but the architecture of each console is too different and i dont think it's possible without endorsement from MS and sony (neither would go for it).

You have to consider the load on the networks. Not only R*'s servers but the connections. How many of you have that perfect internet? Now how many have the occasional stuttering or slowness? Lag?

Having so many vehicles, for example, increased the load on the connections. Adding large aircraft to the mix increases it further.

Look at Saints Row. I played that online (f*cking sh*t loads of fun), but it stuttered like sh*t. I'd get in my mate's car and it'd kangaroo down the road. In one instance, I bailed from the car as he stopped, the car "teleported" back a few feet then forward then stopped. five seconds later my mate was a mile away - he'd floored it but my console thought he had stayed.

GTA IV online, I had this once I think. SRTT, all the time. Coincidence? Possibly, but it's something R* have to think about. a map as huge as V, would it make things worse or better?

So yeah, I think we'll see a lot of stuff cut out of MP from SP. Some aircraft perhaps, but again, i'm not sure if it would make a difference - it's just another model to render - a plane or a bike....

the most important question regarding MP to me, is how will R* rid it of hackers? I stopped playing MP because it was a waste of time. It was cool for ten minutes, then i got bored. Every time i went on MP, it was full of hackers. RPG pistols, invincibility, etc. Why bother. I stuck to sp - much more fun. How are R* going to prevent this?

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

You guys think that planes would crash the game, but something like 16(if not moer)people driving around LOS SANTOS in cars and bikes, that wouldn't? I just don't see the difference between a car and a plane, and the ability to process many of them. I think not only will there be major aircraft in MP, but there will also be submarines, as that's one of the things so many of us want to play with, and it would be a war zone where ever it spawned.

How would adding a large aircraft increase the amount of data and lag in terms of network connection? It's literally sending no more packets of data than a small plane. For the most part, all of it is calculated on the client side, and doesn't need to be sent over through the network. Having a large plane is no different than having a small plane, other than the fact that it's large. In terms of networking, there is literally no difference. In terms of client sided processing, there is. Large planes require more textures, which are stored in RAM. On the PS3, it's much harder to use all the RAM due to complications Sony created. If there were to be any problem, It would be with the PS3-client side its self, not anything to do with the networking side of things. And if this were the case, with this logic, Single Player won't have large planes either, which isn't true.

They confirmed that you can fly the blimp so I can't see how big airplanes would be a problem.
