t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
The purpose of this topic is to share times when you were on television. Things such as being on the news(local or national), being an actor or extra on a movie, or just being in the background of a game on ESPN. Share your moments of 'fame'. And no, CCTV or home video don't count. As for me, I've been on the local news once when I was a kid. I don't even remember the story, but it was something to do about the local libraries. Felt kind of neat at the time. Other than that, that's it.
blitz
I was on the local news once for some school related shenanigans. I also called the radio once and was the third person to say the phrase that pays.
The Pizza Delivery Guy
I was on the local news once for some school related shenanigans. I also called the radio once and was the third person to say the phrase that pays. Pretty much the same thing for me. In Grade 1 I was taken along with my class to play on the playground for a news story of which I never actually saw, and when I was in Grade K I was taken along with my class to talk about random crap on a radio show. GunWrath
I've also been on local news for school things way in the past, also for acouple events that happened in the city, such as being near when a robbery happened, so I made some comments on that, then for an art show, I submitted some hand-drawn work/paintings and got some praise locally for them. I've been on the radio afew times on Lex & Terry, (if any US listeners here) Awesome show. I've also appeared in some other videos, nothing TOO popular but some clips while overseas and such. I'm sure they're on YouTube somewhere. Never did an autograph though.
Nlwt
I was in the crowd at Old Trafford on Match of the Day once. I didn't even realize until a mate spotted it when he was watching it on catch up. I was posted on 4 different sports websites for bowling a 299 at the age of 12; 3rd youngest in the country at that time. Was on Justin.tv during a County bowling tournament and was spotted a couple of times during the stream. Also had a poem published in a poetry book, can't even remember what it was called. That's pretty much it.
GTA_stu
I was once at a school conference, where many different schools from around my city sent chosen pupils to represent them in this stupid business studies workshop thing. I was interviewed for local news (BBC Look North) but they came out of nowhere and shoved the camera in my face and asked me a question out of the blue "What will you take away from this, young man?" and I was surprised and didn't know what to say. I went white and mumbled a load of incomprehensible jibber jabber. Thank god we weren't live. They quickly realised they couldn't air that gobsh*te that I just spewed out, and interviewed the person next to me. Having time to prepare and compose himself, he gave a worthy enough answer and made it onto the 6 O'clock news. I've been bitter and twisted ever since. My mum was actually on national television in 2007 when much of England was flooded, and Alan Johnson (Secretary of State for Health at the time) came into my house and inspected it in front of the cameras in what was basically a publicity stunt. They returned a few months later in a "where are they now" kind of scenario, and everything was repaired and back to normal. I was filmed very briefly, but wasn't interviewed. Guess I was blacklisted or something. Edited May 29, 2013 by GTA_stu
018361
In My 1st-3rd Grades my school would take us to a place that is now a gentleman's club ( I think? ) and they would have us sing Christmas songs and broadcast them live on the local tv stations. I couldn't remember the lyrics, so I just lip synced the whole time like a pro. If there was a head of a record label there, I could have easily have become a world renowned music star of today. rudy
When I was a kid I used to sit in audiences and several times appeared on screen, and I also appeared in school quiz competition once. That was literally the last time I made it to the TV. I higly doubt if I'll hit my moment of glory again but if I do I'd probably make headlines by the news title of "Intoxicated Naked Man Caught Running Down The Street". And then, I'd be taken to station and officers would electrocute my penis before I get beaten down to death for giving scares to the public. This is 'cause the every time I get sloshed, I'd probably find myself the next morning near some people's door with the liquor bottle in my hand and my pants around my ankels.. Jesus. DarrinPA
NBA game. Also I made a complete fool of myself once when I wandered into a live press conference and interupted the whole thing. I'm so glad most people didn't have Tivo back then. I'd have been all over youtube.
TheGodDamnMaster
I appeared in the background of a news report covering a Ron Paul rally at the University of Maryland. I'm the derpy-looking fatass in the brown sweatshirt at 0:46 and at 1:12 to the right of the guy's head. I no longer support Ron Paul and feel like a dumbass for falling into his hivemind fanbase and swallowing his shallow buzzword campaign tactics. LittleBlueTroll
I used to make it into the local newspaper quite a lot when i played football. My team won our league basically every year so we always had the team photo in the paper. But on a more personal note i won player of the year (Just for our league mind you) twice during my time there, and each time i got a little picture of me in the paper holding my award during presentation night. This was a few years ago and local football used to be a big deal, there would be dedicated pages to check the league results and even full detailed match reports. Plus as i said, end of the year photos and awards. Now for some reason, it doesn't get half the attention it used to. It is a shame.
sivispacem
I was interviewed by The Guardian a while back for an editorial on collaboration between universities and government agencies for security policy research purposes. Been in the background on a few national news reports, including getting recorded eating lunch with a nice pint during the Cheltenham Gold Cup coverage a few years ago. Also spoken at a couple of conferences, if they count. Fireman
I was in the newspaper as local football champion. My brother has been on TV a few times, as he played in Beauty and the Geek (Dutch version) and he ended up being 3rd. He also appeared on Jensen (obligatory with the Beauty & The Geek stuff). Other than that no fame in my family.
GreatGig
They quickly realised they couldn't air that gobsh*te that I just spewed out, and interviewed the person next to me. Having time to prepare and compose himself, he gave a worthy enough answer and made it onto the 6 O'clock news. I've been bitter and twisted ever since. That reminds me of some twat in my primary school called Toby (don't you hate him already?) who did pretty much the same thing. Prince Charles and William came to our school to educate us about the RAF (William is based in RAF Valley, about a two minute drive from the school). Anyway, I share my birthday with Old Willy so I went up to him, shook his hand, and educated him with this little factoid. He seemed genuinely amused and almost had our picture taken for the local paper until Toby The Tosser came in and started singing some hymn and that was it, he got all the attention and I was shunned away like some cretin. Anyway, I've done a few things. - I've been an extra on a Welsh TV show and on Holby City. - I've been in the local paper a few times for doing charity work. - I did an interview for the Jeremy Kyle Show (something about how rough some places can be), but I don't think they aired that because I basically tore Jeremy a new one. - I've also written jokes for a few local comedians and some songs for local bands. - There's always news crews around here and I've been in the background of them a few times. Mostly I just stand and stare to freak people out, other times I adopt a walk that will get me noticed hoping that some Hollywood big shot sees me and goes "I like the way the kid walks. GET HIM ON THE PHONE!" then they realise I'm partially deaf and thus phoning me is completely futile and because I don't understand what's going on I think it's some pervert who wants to touch my spicy areas, so I go to the police and have everyone arrested and we all lively somewhat happily ever after. GTA_stu
I too knew a Toby once, he used to sh*t all over the field outside my house where me and my friends played. Toby was a dog, although there was a mentally ill man who shat in a bush adjacent to the field one time, but that's a story for another time. Toby was a nice dog, wasn't his fault that his owner didn't pick up his poo. But eventually he met his maker and went to doggy heaven with the golden fire hydrants and all that. Then they got a new dog, and called it "Sherry", which is a f*cking awful name for anything, including the drink. Sherry still lives now, and is a total c*nt just like her owner. Sherry is a piece of sh*t, she couldn't hold a candle to Toby. Her paws couldn't grip it for one. I bet Toby could grip a candle, because Toby was awesome, doesn't matter that he didn't have thumbs, because he'd find a way. RIP sweet prince, you went too soon. F*ck off Sherry. guib
There was a fire extinguisher lesson at my old school, everybody had to put out a fire with a fire extinguisher, and the local paper made a picture of me, putting out a fire. So I guess you could say, I am sort of a big celebrity.
RomansMoobs
As a kid I was on TV for something regarding what teachers should and shouldn't wear to school, and I've been on the radio a few times for sports talk, as well as winning a few ticket contests for concerts. I've been on advertisement posters for my haunted house as well. I've been on the radio promoting my band too.
TonyZimmzy
I should be on some channel 4 documentary sometime over summer. They asked me and my friend to make the background look a bit busy while they filmed the main target. No idea what it's about, something about hair cuts and sports. Sounded wank.
