Miro
Where do you have the game from? Are you using any mods or cracks? Do you play with the original DVD in your Drive? Try to install these: Games for Windows Live Update, the GTA IV Patch 1.0.7.0 & .NET Framework 3.5. Besides, have you tried running the game as administrator? Have you tried to un-install it and re-install GTA IV? Dead (Retired)
saf75
i downloaded the game from the r* web site so i haven't got a disk. no mods or cracks. upgrades already done & yes i've tried running as administrator & re-installed several times but nothing i do seems to help
CCPD
You can't buy the game directly from R*. They always direct you to your local retailer. So where exactly did you get your game from?
saf75
ok not entirely sure then all i did was went to the R* website & downloaded it, if they re-directed me i didnt notice
Miro
Whether your game is original or pirated only depends on the matter if you paid for it. Did you pay for the game? If not, then it's clearly that the game is pirated. Thus, we'll recommend you to buy the original game. Dead (Retired)
saf75
yep definatley paid for it, downloaded from the R* warehouse, & i know that the game itself works because i played it on my old comp.
CCPD
Go to the source file (where the .exe is) -> Right click on GTAIV.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Run the program as an administrator. If it doesn't help, also choose Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. Uninstall GTA. Run the installer 'setup.exe' in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. Any chance you got it from Steam? CCPD
So what happened, did you get any error messages? Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Miro
Try this: Start Windows Live, log in, and then start the game. It might work. Besides, you also should try installing xliveless, but beware that it moves save files (in case you have any) and also disabled online play.
