GTA's first metal station?

 

GTA has yet to feature an all metal radio station, although the Lost and Damned GTA 4 expansion came the closest. Could it perhaps be time there was one? Metal music is amongst the most popular in the world, so its surprising there hasn't been a radio station dedicated to it. It could feature both old and new music, covering many sub-genre bases, such as thrash, prog and melodic metal. Potential DJs are endless to choose from, but someone like Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden could be a good choice.

 

Predicted Artists: Metallica, Machine Head, Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Tool

Whatever kind of music appear in the game I will listen to all, regardless of your silly musical taste: "i want this!", "i will be happy if we get this...", "there better be a [type] radio station" *sigh*

I'm actually almost like this. Although what I most listen is rock (any variation apply), I generally enjoy the whole GTA soundtrack.

 

I just wish if they make a Latin radio station, it'll be like Vladivostok FM from "vanilla" GTA4: not play only one music genre that is considered Latin, but all genres that actually plays on Latin America - which includes rock, hip-hop and reggae, for example.

Yeah, The Ska/Punk idea would be great considering that in 1992 GTA SA, it was still "underground". The ska/punk and skate punk scene has been one of the biggest scenes to emerge from southern California since then.

 

Sublime, Blink 182, Rancid, Weezer are all still huge. Plus there is still great music from Operation Ivy, Mxpx, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, ect... Plus some new comers like the Dirty Heads.

 

But IGN's list contains too many Electronic music stations. I seriously doubt they'll be more than two.

 

 

I'm sorry but sublime isn't ska and weezer isn't punk.

Sublime used ska as their foundation in many songs, which third-wave ska was simply mixing ska with WHATEVER you wanted. Weezer's biggest hit used even ska, but yeah weezer is not punk.

I don't think he was refering to the band but simply "slackers" as in lazy surfers and skaters.

There's quite a few threads on music already..

 

I think that no one is going to be completely satisfied because everyone is into different music. I'm a hard rock/metal guy. But I'm hoping there is a wide range of all different genres. I have always loved GTA radio, the music, the DJ's, the adverts, the talk shows, the guests, the news.. there's so much! It really does add a great deal to the game.

I'll listen to different stations depending on what protag I'm using.

When I read Sublime, I can't take Saints Row the 3rd from my head. Never thought would be among the main game's themes, besides hip-hop.

 

About the electronic, I really doubt Skrillex, Deadmau5 and David Guetta won't be included. But more that one radio seems too much.

 

And if I really could choose radio stations, I'd add 2 main ones, that plays all musics of the same genre: one for hip-hop and one for rock. For example:

 

- One for classic hip-hop, one for modern and gangsta rap, one for R&B, and one that plays all the musics from the previous ones

 

- One for classic rock, one for alternative rock, one for metal and hard-rock, and one that plays all these ones

Hopefully there's no sh*tty mainstream rap like 2Chainz, Nicki, Drake, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross...

 

Hopefully there's some Jay Rock, Kendrick, Hopsin, Ab Soul, Tech N9ne, Ice Cube and Lil Eazy with some good classic rock too.

As long as there's a classic Rock Station like KDST or LRR and an 80's station like Flash FM or Vice City FM I will be satisfied.

I don't really expect Radio Los Santos again, but rather two separate rap stations that showcase all corners of West Coast Hip-Hop. They've done things like this in the past with the major genres (IV had The Beat and Classics, San Andreas had Radio Los Santos and Playback). So I kind of expect a station with modern artists like Kendrick and Jay Rock, and a station with classics like Ice Cube and Snoop. There may be a bit of a cross-over, because songs like 'The Recipe' feature Dre, but I don't think that particularly matters. To be honest, I kind of want them to separate them only because it means more great music for us.

 

Here's a question, do you think 'Radio Ga Ga' would suit a potential 80's music station better than the Classic Rock one? I'm imagining listening to 'Radar Love,' and then it cutting to 'Radio Ga Ga' and they don't quite mesh together. It would fit better alongside 'Skeletons,' in my opinion, which I thought would be on a Funk station prior to Michael's trailer. Now I think there is an 80's one.

 

One of the greatest things about Rockstar's music selection is that they don't necessarily choose what's "hot" right now, but rather go for the less obvious tracks. A really good example of this is Radio Broker from GTA IV; they could have loaded that with Indie songs that were massive in 2007/2008, but they chose to take a step back and go a bit subtler with their track selection, which makes the station seem much less dated by today's standards. I kind of expect them to go the same route here, for example, they're going to pick a song off the Kendrick album that is much less popular in the contemporary music scene, but good nonetheless.
