dagangsta
Ok, let's begin with that, every GTA had islands, Bohan, Algonquin, Aldenary etc. So as R* said there will be one huge map. So everyone knows that if you went to Algonquin at the begging of IV you'll get a 6* wanted lvl. Now that there will be no islands then is the whole world open to us straight on. Or will it be separated by rivers etc. What do you think, I think that if it's open straight away it's a bit against the GTA tradition.
Dutch Psycho
Its open from the beginning it's been confirmed in the first previews. And you are right but i really don't care. Edited May 28, 2013 by Dutch Psycho
LennonNL
They've already said that all the map is open from the beginning, whether there are multiple islands or not
poklane
I like the fact that the map is open from the beginning, simply because of mission possibilities. In IV, at the start, 2/3 of the map was useless, and then 1/3 after the story still 1/3 of the map was useless, with another 1/3 almost not being used for missions. yakprince
Yep as Dutch Psycho said, its open from the beginning. Makes sense considering all the characters are already currently living in the state anyway.
bwasroy
What if GTA V was multe-dimenshunal and only this dimenshun was immediately available to play? So, like you couldn't jump in a bucket and go to Narnia or somethin. Got to stay in this universe in the beginning. Yeah. And what if deer huntin was legal in it too? Nice. GtaIIIFanBoy
true but you could also say having 3 Characters is going against the gta Tradition aswell.
d3ex2
It is one big island. It is in no way locked at the start. f*ck tradition. Get used to it or don't play it. GTA is changing.

LittleBlueTroll
As the old saying goes "Change is as good as the rest" Breaking tradition might not be a bad thing. In fact, i am excited that the world is mine from day 1 rather than unlocking islands. The only good thing about unlocking islands or areas (Such as the desert in San Andreas) Is it creates an air of intrigue and makes you really look forward to being able to play there. But as we have been waiting so long for V, i would safely say we don't need any more intrigue.

My issue with this in past games was that it felt entirely arbitrary and artificial. I'm all for open from the start.
Johan
It's opened from the beginning, sure it bothered me at first but now I don't see the problem with it.
epicluca
Completely open map probably means alot more misisons. Maybe 80 per character
NYC PATROL
It doesn't bother me at all because I know I'll still be exploring one section at a time and then moving on whenever I please to investigate new areas.
Guest
Expect a lot more breaks of tradition, OP. I'm expecting microtransactions and the like after this pre order collector's edition stuff.

LibertyKing
I'm so happy there is no more separated areas. it would seem weird to separate Los Santos with river, assuming there's none.

Racecarlock
Honestly, what the hell does locking off the bridges do other than force players to complete parts of the story to see it? I mean, people who want to play the story will play it regardless of whether or not some bridges are locked. Why punish the people who just want to f*ck around in single player free roam? Dope_0110
Completely open map probably means alot more misisons. Maybe 80 per character No it doesn't. Please explain how does map being open mean that we get more missions per character? What's the logic there? I'm really interested in reading that. I don't think that they would seriously unlock the bridge after all the killing and heists that the player would make. Huge nonsense.

LibertyKing
Los santos is split into 3 islands. No. There are rivers separating the map in 3, but not Los Santos.
Leafy Hollow
Your concern is not warranted like others have stated. I thought the separation of areas during certain points of the game was neat 10 years ago but now it would just hinder a more expansive single play experience. Honest Bill
I will sort of miss how sweet it was to unlock a new island. However i think it's a good idea overall. It makes more sense, and this way, it lets you explore at your own pace. Many times in past GTAs i have wanted to take a break from doing missions but really wanted to get to the other islands and see what's there. Now i can just go wherever i want. It will be so big, that it won't matter. You will feel lost for a while , which is nice, and adds to the scope of the game.
