(8 Average) He thinks it's really bad, he's just panicking, going crazy about it... Do you guys think, this is a stupid, or a good idea by him? Because i think, its like, the worst idea, ever... Anyway, if he's trying you to have better results just by turning off the Internet I don't think he will get anything (I'm not calling you stupid or something lol). You're going to hate it, but if the internet is what's f*cking your grades up (and it's not something you can really notice when it happens to you) then you should totally lose it. My parents would often put me on probation like that, but usually they'd go easy easy after a week, or let me by if I found a loophole. It's a shame. My grades were and are still bad. It depends if you apply yourself as to whether it will work or not. If you blame your father until he gives in then you won't make any changes in regards to your grades. However if you did what I did not and apply yourself to revision and hard work you will succeed academically. I made mistakes. I kept on acting the fool and caught myself being kicked out of school and only being able to attend examinations. This was a major blow, and only recently have I realised so. I didn't revise and as I was no longer having to go to school I wasn't learning, at all. I went out and made silly decisions which got me caught up in trouble with the law numerous times. I almost got myself arrested and put into juvenile at one point. So you see, it depends what you wish to do. You can confront your father and tell him you'll work and you can ask him to put it back on. Or, you can truly apply yourself to dedication in school and at home to school work and revision to better your grades. If you decide to socialise and go out more now that you're restricted to the internet as I did, try to keep out of trouble. I messed up, and now I try to give advice to others on how to go the right way where I went wrong. That summer I've spoken about was about two years ago. They f*cked up my vacations and I haven't started studying until now (the common sense has reached me now lol)... But you can't expect someone to learn everything from games and internet. Although you can get quite a lot information from them, you have to study nevertheless. BTW I don't really think it's good idea, if he wants to force you to study, he should rather turn off the internet during school year. But in most cases no internet doesn't necessarily guarantee that you will study more. Perhaps your father should think of something else which would be more effective. To be honest, if you really care about your grades, listen to your father dude. You don't need internet or games to survive. Those are just luxuries. Just like you said, a school period without Internet would be much better so you can really concentrate you on your work. People are often ignorant to the valuable knowledge and skills which are so easily accessible through the Internet. For all the terrible and biased stuff out there, you will also find some extremely useful resources which, even if you have the poorest possible grades, provide a way for you to learn and develop skills which can be of use. To not take advantage of the massive amount of content right in front of you is stupid. I can't begin to describe how much I've learned outside of the classroom. My grades have always been in the top levels, but for a while I just found it easier and more resourceful to teach myself the things I'm interested in, and it payed off, because the things you go through the effort to learn on your own with no pressure are the things you're most likely to benefit from. Sadly most parents, teachers, and politicians fail to grasp the concept of using online resources as a source of education. If it's not from the library then it's not accurate, untrustworthy and a waste of time. Sure, you can't rely on the Internet, it won't get you a Degree, but arguably the knowledge and skills which can so easily be accessed are just as valuable, and can make the difference even when your grades are limited. If your parents are abusive to begin with then actually its their fault your grades are bad not you. The environment you live in has to be good or how is one to study, live or do anything of the sort? So if your living environment has been great then ya its your fault in which case your father was in the right to do something like this. But if the computer affects your grades in a bad way it could be considered good aswell. When it's summer I don't care about the computer almost at all, I do some research from time to time, but it's better enjoying the whole summer, going to the local pool. There are so many good books out there which can keep you occupied for hours, to name a few: Oliver Twist Harry Potter series Great Expectations Eragon (I didn't really like it though) Marvel comics Splinter Cell books (can't remember the name) You could also try drawing or painting stuff or start collecting some things. You can not force yourself to learn something because if you don't want something, then it's hard to do it. There has to be something that encourages you to learn more for school; speak about it with your parents! To be honest, I don't learn that much for school either and I could achieve substantially better grades than now if I would bother to learn more. I'm in a vocational high school and grades do not matter that much; what really matters is if you have understand everything. My grades don't reflect the knowledge I do actually have about each subject. It's just that I need a little longer to understand something as I don't learn much myself at home.
