TwistedMedia
Before you complain, I know the title sounds absurd, but please hear me out... Rockstar are claiming that they have re-invented the Online Multiplayer aspect of open world games. This is quite a bold statement, and says to me that they are not just going to give the usual free roam with hideouts etc type multiplayer from RDR (not that it wasnt good in its own right). I have a feeling the heist mechanic will carry over into Multiplayer and we will be able to take on heists in a similar fashion to the gang hideouts on RDR's free roam - for example, team up and charge into a bank opening fire, raid the vault and escape with cash and evade a police pursuit. I have a feeling we will actually have an online cash/inventory system which will be used to 'rank' us. Similarly to the Single Player, the more heists you pull online, the more cash you have, the more weapons and cars you can buy etc. This leads me onto my main point.. I'm sure most people here have heard of, if not played, an online Facebook game such as Mafia Wars, where the objective is to generate as much money as possible, purchase property, weapons, cars, etc, and establish yourself as a big part of the crime world. The big problem with these is that whilst they can be very addictive, they obviously lack any substance and graphical presence. I have a feeling GTA's multiplayer will adopt this nature, in that we will be trying to become the most valuable criminal, in terms of cash, possessions, and criminal status. This would be a good way of keeping the multiplayer interesting, and enjoyable whilst incorporating some of the single player features. What are your thoughts on this, and would you prefer this system over traditional online free roam?
zuckmeslow
i want choices. sure that could be a game mode. but i think free rome should be the main game mode. then u can chose all these other games. but if it forces you to do missions in multiplayer then that would suck
TwistedMedia
They wouldn't be missions in terms of needing to do it to progress through the ranks of multiplayer, it would just be a faster way of doing so. Similar to in RDR free roam, you could just mess around shooting people and picking flowers, but you could rank up a lot quicker by doing gang hideouts. Jordan_Philip
You really think they would do something like this and leave online free roam completely out? I guess a multiplayer mode like this would be cool if it wasnt as sh*tty as all the throw away zynga and butthole rovio games that get mushed in your face whenever you check your facebook. TwistedMedia
I can't really explain what I mean.. like it IS the free roam mode of the game, there is no requirement to do anything specific, but if you wish, you can perform heists online, similarly to gang hideouts in RDR, and use the money to invest in better weapons and vehicles. Pretty much a modern twist on using gang hideouts to increase XP in RDR, in turn unlocking better horses and weapons etc.

wwinterj
I could see this working. GTA Online could adapt the way Mafia Wars as a example works but in a 3D environment(the games online mode).
