What will happen when we reach the maps end?

Well, in San Andreas when you left the area it said "Turn back, your homies need you" and I am sure if you carried on much further it fired lock-on missiles that you just couldn't dodge.

I prefer that over just miraculously blowing up.

???

Eternal ocean like in GTAIV.

But what about underwater? In fact do you think the entire underwater area is modeled and explorable?

"Explorable"? Sure. Modeled? No. I guess far away from the coasts the oceanfloor will be flat with no life.. except for small fishes maybe.

Infinite Sea that kills you if you travel too far on one side and a bigger mountain range on the other side (re: RDR)

It has been confirmed that the map will be an island..

I've never gone out far enough in IV to see what happens... I thought it was just eternal sea?

I don't think this has ever happened...

Same as IV. If you're in the water too long you start dying, and if you fly away too far you first get a warning and if you keep going you blow up.

It does happen:

Update: So I just flew out to sea in an Annihilator. It took around 8 minutes until I started losing bits of health. I turned around, flew back towards the city, and was able to stop my loss of life. Then I flew away from the city again until I continued to lose life and ultimately died.

While this is very different from what happens in multiplayer (in which you explode after a very short distance), I wasn't actually aware that any kind of death would occur in single player as a consequence for flying too far out to sea. I don't see this as a problem, though. 8 minutes at full speed in an Annihilator is plenty of distance for 'endless ocean', in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind if it stays the same in GTA V.

It's pretty obvious what will happen, seeing as we know the map is an island again. You'll just keep going until you can no longer see the landmass behind you. You won't actually be getting any further from the map, though you won't be able to tell due to being surrounded by water. I'm pretty sure this is what happened in SA & IV (I think).

Edit: Apparently I'm wrong. I'm guessing the loss of health 8 mins from the shoreline, is so you don't have to reload. I think the SA solution was the best, infinite sea but if you travel for 30 mins, it doesn't take you 30 mins to get back.

The underwater will just become flat or too deep to go into like too deep even with scuba gear. But it will go on forever

Yes, the ocean floor will probably reach a shelf, which you will be able to descend (Abyss style) but at a certain depth you will die from water pressure, just like in real life.

The details under water will probably fade out if you dive far enough out in the ocean, and it will result in eternal sand.

Or eternal depth..

I guess there could be currents that stop you proceeding underwater.

The easier option would just be to have your character die if you dove too deep due to the pressure/Running out of Oxygen.

'I don't think this has ever happened' was implied to the first quote about an island.

If you are riding a boat a big storm will take place, you will survive though, after the storm fades away your boat will hit a wall , you have to get off the boat and there will be stairs, go up the stairs and you will find a secret door, enter the door and theres gonna be a blinding light, when the blinding light fades away you will wake up in the hospital, go out the hospital and keep up the rampage.

In IV you die, end of.

In V I think you should eventually get turned around without realising, like some illusion sh*t.

I think it will be infinite.

As in you fly across the ocean and into the night sky,

literally into the stary night sky only to break the atmosphere

and continue on to other planetary systems...

If you're on an Xbox 360, you'll probably get the RRoD.

Made my day lol

Either you die, or you go on a endless journey to the Bermuda Triangle

In San Andreas you would blow up if you were in a plane and flew out for about 45 min. I can't find a vid on that, maybe I'll make one.

But here is GTA IV's Edge:

He reaches the edge @ 2:06

So I'm about to perform the ultimate necromancy and revive this thread.

I got into a Vestra and followed one of the 747s flying out of LS out towards the ocean, I followed for maybe 10 minutes (wasn't timing) when suddenly the left wing of my plane came off and I fell into the water. Trevor got out and I tried to swim to the top but I couldn't reach it. The plane continued to sink and then exploded, Also there was a shark too, but Trevor drowned before it could take a bite at me.

So I guess that's what happens when you take a plane to the edge of the map. Not sure about boats and helicopters.

I'd take a guess and say boats probably explode and helicopters become disabled and drop out of the sky as well.

Same here. That's what happens, even Online

Boats just start sinking and helicopters drop out of the sky.
