Saints Row 2 is way better than most GTA games.

SR is kind of a guilty pleasure. You're playing it, it feels like garbage, it plays like garbage, but it gets the bare minimum right.

It's a lot dumber than GTA, but it can be slightly fun.

 

Anyway, most (5 out of 6) GTA games are from previous console generations than SR2, so it's not a fair comparison.

The driving in Saints Row 3 was horrible imo. The impact your vehicles took (especially motorcycles when landing) was way too much.

Saints Row 1 and Saints Row 2?  Yeah they could be competitors.  They weren't equals but they could have at least gotten closer.

It's sad they decided to go full retard with SRTT and ruin the franchise, SR2 was so good, SR IV looks even worse than SRTT.

 

Also, OP's reasons are weak, taunts have been in plenty of other games before, SR didn't invent them, same thing with the pedestrians filming videos, it's a general improvement to pedestrian behavior that's common sense, and there's nothing to suggest GTA V's car handling is arcadish, and I wouldn't even call SR's handling arcadish, it's so sh*t it's a whole style of its own, one that shouldn't exist.

 

EDIT: I'm not saying that R* wouldn't take ideas from other games, just that what OP mentioned isn't it.

R* is always checking their competitors' games, so there is no doubt they don't know these things. If they "copied" it or took it as inspiration can nobody answer here.

taking ideas from other developers is a good thing. If it makes a game better who cares who thought up the idea first?

The taunts have and pedestrians filming have been in Saint's Row since the second game. Rockstar might have been inspired by those ideas, but who cares? I feel some people take pride vicariously through Rockstar.

Well it's a bit more surreal and not completely in-your-face like Saints Row that shows dildos in screenshots and trailers several times.

No. I don't know. I don't think so. I think they're taking a page from their own book. Flipping people is like RDR, except the one in RDR is saying 'howdy'. They just reversed it, since GTA is more rude. More disrespectful. And, I forgot. We also got farting and burping in GTA 2.

 

Pedestrians filming videos. That's taken from popular culture. That doesn't mean they took it from Saints Row because Saints Row basically took it from real life. It doesn't mean that GTA copied Saints Row. Plus it's a little detail.

 

'Arcadish' handling. Play Midnight Club Plus we don't know if GTA V has actually arcadish handling. They just said that it handled better than GTA IV.

 

And seeing the trailer for Saints Row IV, I'm gonna say they better take a page from R*'s book.

When you were a bandit in RDR, pressing circle would make him insult random people. It's the same as that, but with an anim instead of verbal insults.
