woggleman
Though I myself very much enjoyed IV I know it divided GTA fans and it seems like V is certainly addressing the issues that some people had with it like lack of planes, customization and property. All those are back in but at the same time it also seems to feature the deep and engaging storytelling of IV with Michael's family issues and his desire to get back into an exciting life. Franklin also seems to be a deep story with a man caught in between loyalty to his old life and a desire to move up in the world. We also have the pure craziness of Trevor which appeals to the players who just like to cause havoc. It seems like a game that will be hang the GTA fanbase together and please everybody but can they make everybody happy?
nigelhere9901
I guess so, I'm still not sure what to think of certain "new to the series" features.
bwasroy
Rockstar Games is a constantly evolving company that listens to players and tries to reach a little further with each GTA game. The blend of funny and serious is nothing new by any means. (IV also wasn't devoid of humor. You were chasing a gay guy through Central Park. You were kidnapping a pretty hilarious satire of Paris Hilton-esque socialites. It had humor. But it just wasn't as balls out crazy as SA.) Is it trying to be all things to all people? No. Not really at all. Rockstar will piss a lot of people off with this. (There was protest in December over GTA V after the CT shootings, there will be angry parents, there will be gamers who just don't appreciate sandbox types of games). But for people who like GTA and like video games and are willing to appreciate this particular genre (a large, but somewhat concentrated group), Rockstar will probably manage to please them. wwinterj
It's simply trying to be the best it possibly can be but there will always be room for improvement.
CryptReaperDorian
What made GTA IV great was the improved graphics from the RAGE engine, the Euphoria physics, the Bullet engine physics (vehicle damage), and it's more "matured" and organized story. R* is obviously trying to combine those great GTA IV elements with the "total sandbox" elements we got with GTA SA.
BlackNoise
It's not just about pleasing everybody. It's also about making all aspects of GTA work together in a more cohesive way. A lot of fans don't care about how ridiculous it is for a protagonist to be all things at the same time from a narrative standpoint. I'm glad multiple video game journalists pointed this aspect out, because I thought I was the only one who had problems going on rampages with Niko. I don't think R* wants the story to be completely separate/different from free roam gameplay, because that probably makes them feel like they did a poor job of spelling out exactly what type of character the player is controlling. With multiple protagonists, we're now expected to use them for the type of stuff that makes sense for their characters. We won't be forced to only use Trevor for rampages, but I bet it will be much more fun if we use him. The same thing can probably be said about Franklin and racing. I'm sure there will be certain stuff that's made specifically for Michael as well. He's already the best with weapons.
woggleman
I never had an issue going on rampages with Niko or CJ. I was able to suspend belief for those moments.
MrSpooge
Ah F*** Those who were not happy with IV. I was happy with it, so I'll be far more then happy with this Though I can understand why people might not have been SUPER HAPPY with IV and what it was I absolutely hate people who HATE it, your reasons are flawed and just because you didn't get all you wanted doesn't give you a right to hate the game. Bantri
Rockstar just want's to show different perspectives. A game with 3 majorly different characters working together will of course be more entertaining and fun than 3 similar characters. It's not that they are trying to please everyone, it's because it works for the game.
GlitzyTomb
I had a bit of an issue going on rampages with Niko, he's so damn sincere throughout the story...and with the ending... That's why I did most of my rampagery with my MP avatar. Plentiful health pickups, weapons everywhere, and some tattooed a-hole with a bandana on. Makes much more sense.
