73duster
I think there is a strong chance there will be a snowy region in the northern part of the map. This has been discussed before, and several reasons were used to shoot down the possibility. However, I think this is going to be one of the things Rockstar is keeping under wraps. We know Rockstar can do snow, because they did it quite successfully in Red Dead Redemption. RDR was able to go from an extremely hot climate down in the southern part of the map, to a cold and snowy climate way up in the northern part of the map. It worked quite well, in spite of being a rather small map. GTAV is going to be massive, in comparison to RDR, so it should be much easier to gradually implement snow in the most northern section of the map. At the very least, there could be snowcaps at the top of those mountains. I might be wrong, but there IS snow in northern California, and there isn't anything concrete that would prevent Rockstar from doing it. There is much more landmass to work with, so there isn't any reason to think it cannot happen. What do you guys think?
Scampi
I am hoping for snow too. I will be disappointed if there is not. After learning about Big Bear and how it features a couple ski resorts it seems (to me) impossible it will not be featured in some way. Especially with as mountainous as the previews are making the map sound, there's got to be snow. And if there is I hope we get to customize our cars with chains to make it through the roads. Given the scope/scale/nature of the project, I think this simply would not make much sense. Rockstar appears to have set out to create a full scale replica of Los Angeles and the adjacent area. You argument is a bit like saying, theoretically Las Vegas is only a few hours away from LA so that'll probably be included or because Disneyland is in Anaheim that's got to be included. RDR was a western satire and was not attempting to recreate a feeling of a particular geographic area so Rockstar could take the liberty to use snow in that game. It's an exciting, lucrative idea, however, and obviously Las Vegas was in SA so my theory might not hold at all. If anything, there might be snow covered mountain tops, but I have a hard time imagining any sort of a "snowy region".
Scampi
But Big Bear and Anaheim are closer to LA than the Salton Sea is, and that's definitely included, so it makes sense to me they would fit within the scope of the game. I am expecting the Glory Hole theme park to be in also, since you mentioned Anaheim, but it will probably be very small scale if anything. Disneyland is a huge southern CA attraction so I can't see it not being used in some way.
LennonNL
RDR was small to you? Jheeze. Also @bwasroy, Las Vegas only a few hours from LA? Try a 7 hour drive Edited May 28, 2013 by LennonNL
bwasroy
Scampi, if there is a Glory Hole Theme Park, this will be the most epic game ever. Here's hoping, man.
gtaman533
The previews said 10 different climates will be in the game so its a great possibility

73duster
RDR was small to you?Jheeze. Also @bwasroy, Las Vegas only a few hours from LA? Try a 7 hour drive I only meant small in comparison to GTAV. For the record, it was the perfect size for a western themed title, but it was much smaller than even San Andreas. dewan2000
RDR was small to you?Jheeze. Also @bwasroy, Las Vegas only a few hours from LA? Try a 7 hour drive You must be a rather slow driver Depending on Traffic its more like a 4 hour drive Also It would be nice to have snow in the game, but I personally think its rather unlikely. Maybe next in series if they do not do Vice City. It would be nice to see them visit the North-West. Though not the hugest cities, they have a nice atmosphere to them. allftw
I just can't picture there being a snowy region on the map. I think they might want to wait until the next gen GTA game to include snow. That way it might have a large impact on gameplay and feel more organic.
bwasroy
RDR was small to you?Jheeze. Also @bwasroy, Las Vegas only a few hours from LA? Try a 7 hour drive Um, no? lol From where Trevor is situated (let's say a little east of Pasadena) to the Vegas strip is 4 hours. I've made that trip many times. Just to support my argument and prove I'm not crazy, Googlemaps lists the distance between the Pasadena convention center and Vegas as 255 miles or 3 hours and 47 minutes via I-15 North. If you leave from Malibu and drive to Vegas, it's only 4 and a half hours. Where did you get 7 hours? Have you ever lived in Los Angeles? Heck, have you ever even been to Los Angeles? jackass2009
Also @bwasroy, Las Vegas only a few hours from LA? Try a 7 hour drive I make that trip multiple times a year and it's usually around four hours to four and a half hours. On topic: If there's a high mountain like Mount Chilliad, I'm going to go out on a limb and say there could be a snowy peak.

I've made that trip quite a few times and usually it's about 4 hours or so but when traffic in LA is traffic in LA it can take up to 1.5+ hours to even get out of LA let alone drive across the stateline. OT: Snow is very possible, would be weird not to have snow as we have mountains. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise
MikeyBelic
It'd be a test for R to introduce considering the massive array of vehicles in the game, however it'd be cool to see. It'd bone if it glitched out and the climate was normal but the mechanics stuck to snow.
