meson1
It's not a question of "pulling it off". It's not a question of "it's a bit of a challenge but they might do it anyway". People don't seem to understand why they won't build additional maps. Let me break it down. The biggest single task of any GTA is building the map. It takes more time and effort than all the rest of the game put together. That means if they spend 5 years developing the game, they'd spend more than 2.5 years of that building the world for it. (This is put somewhat simplistically, but I think you get the point.) That means that knocking out additional playing areas including whole new cities to the same level of fidelity and detail would take a disproportionally massive amount of time, effort and money. Then in order to properly use those additional cities, you need additional narrative to take the player into them and use them. That's more missions, more characters, more voice actors to be hired, more scripts to be written, more cut scenes to be mocapped, more dialogue to be recorded and so on. If you haven't figured it out yet, you're pretty much well on your way to a whole new game. And how much can they charge for this DLC? Because it's a DLC; they can't charge the full price of a game. So the amount of return you can make on it is limited. Then on top of that, not everyone will buy DLCs. Many gamers simply ignored TLaD and TBoGT. Sales are proven to be only a fraction of that for a full game. So you've spent nearly, if not as much, as it would cost you to develop a whole new game. You can't charge as much for it and you won't get as many sales. It's a sure fire formula for how to make a massive loss. In short, they won't do it. What Rockstar are doing are keeping SF and LV in their back pockets for future full size GTAs.
Happyness
*Rockstar makes pre-order editions with 3 extra weapons and 4 extra vehicles* You: "THEY'RE GIVING US 90% OF THE GAME! I CAN 100% CONFIRM THAT THEY ARE CUT FROM THE GAME." Yes because logically you add "extra content" to a game that is not even out yet.
22ka
Lol this topic is way too funny. But seriously now I think I know wat this guy is tring to say(maybe). He is saying that he doesn't want to buy a game that just released because its 'not complete' or has been stripped of extra content just to make a quick buk. I belive he is also saying(if I'm on the right track) that he will end up buying this 'unfinised' game(standerd) instead of SE and CE because he thinks that the content should already be in the game(his logic probebly is that if R* can make a different version of the game with more content, why not just put that content in the origonal since they all release at the same time). Next he's probebly also saying that after these versions release R* will release even more DLC which they could of put in the standerd game instead of blowing their time on the other edditions. And finally I guess that he belives that it would mean that there would need to be a final game with all of the released DLC that he will now have to buy again for full price(meaning that his previous coy is basically now a waste of money). In short he feels that the first game he buys should be the only and that it should have everything in it from the start which would possibly be possible if R* didn't waste time and resorces making those other additions. Well that's my theory on what he's been trying to explain for the last 5 pages

Macabro
What in the actual f*ck are you on about? I am talking about if Rockstar is going to release 3 different kinds of version of GTA5 They are. Regular, special, and collector's edition.

S1LV3R_W0LF
Third --> Grand Theft Auto 5: The Complete Edition (*2015* *360/Xbox One*) (*2016* PS3/PS4*) Episodes from Los Santos <--- Coming Soon in (2014 *360/Xbox One) (2015 *PS3/PS4*) Almost anything of what you said makes sense, but these... make no sense at all. So they'll release certain versions in a console and one year later in another, although PS3 and PS4 will get the Episodes from Los Santos 1 year before getting the complete edition (whatever that is), so why would they buy the GTA V, then the separated DLC's, then the Episodes and then 3 years later buy the game all over again? ed72o
Well let's try and understand why they're doing it: 1. Half the people here are begging for it (note: the game isn't even out yet) 2. You're all stupid enough to pay for it That about sums it up
lucid121
Let's say for example: First Version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is 90% done (Release Date: September 17, 2013) You have to buy DLC (Additional Weapons, Outfits, tattoos and more) Second -->Special Edition version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is 98% done (INCLUDES FREE BONUS) Third --> Grand Theft Auto 5: The Complete Edition (*2015* *360/Xbox One*) (*2016* PS3/PS4*) Episodes from Los Santos <--- Coming Soon in (2014 *360/Xbox One) (2015 *PS3/PS4*) San Fierro (Fictional City of San Francisco) Las Venturas (Fictional City of Las Vegas) Do you all get it? Sgt. Foley
Lets say Los Santos was like 4 GB. By itself. Not including any other files, just everything for the map. Add the every other thing needed in the game, and it equals another 3-4 GB. That's 7 or 8 GB already. Now, if you want CITY DLC, you're in for a bad time. Las Venturas would probably be 5 GB because of all the interiors. Then since people want side missions, new cars, guns, etc etc... In my eyes that would be another 3-4 GB. That's way too much. You guys can't possibly want this much space taken up.

You guys can't possibly want this much space taken up. not to mention the time to go out and get photos of the cities, model them, plus the new country side that would be needed, cause you couldn't just tak on a new city on the exsisting map, new peds, police for the cities, missions! it would be as you said unprofitable, a huge waste of time, manpower and funds for something that may not sell well, AND my biggest problem, it would be a complete waste of a city, as it would just be dlc, with none of its own character, story or a fully realised story, can't just release a whole new city with just 15 new missions, and if they managed to come out with a big enough story plus side activities etc, it would certainly not cost 20 bucks, that's an entire new gta game. People are living in fantasy land, where games grow on trees, and are done for love and never for profit!!!

Gilly1987
They have made a complete game removed stuff for the standard version and then re-added the removed content for special editions. I'll never support day 1 DLC because it just stinks. Shame more don't boycott day 1 DLC tp put an end to this sh*t. Just a way how to make an extra quick buck from game developers. Kill Frenzy!
No, I don't get it You don't get it? How many versions did Capcom release of Street Fighter IV? About 3 versions 1. Original Street Fighter IV Version 2. Super Street Fighter IV 3. Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition See those are examples of what Rockstar is doing to GTA fans... What if the first version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is not so complete? Not gonna happen to GTA V. After his release only Episodes will come out. Aw, did you think Rockstar would never dare to do this to GTA?? Shame. They are here to make money. Anyway the preorder/SE/CE DLC is a load of sh*t and will available for everyone at one point or another and if you don't buy it it's not going to ruin your experience. It's not like they've took cars, weapons, clothes, tattoos out of the game and are asking for extra money. It's not new features but SOME MORE of what is already in the game. Stop f*cking whining. If you don't like it then don't buy the DLC or even better don't buy the game. That will show them, right?

Mr.Moffat
ANybody ever consider that this bonus dlc, you know might have actually been made specially for dlc, and not just ripped out of the game? so people who pre-order are getting a game that's 101% complete. ANd so what if its ripped out, big deal, the game will over hundreds of hours of gameplay and people complain over a a few minor things that prob add up 1% of the overall game?? jolzew1
No way they will wait a year to release it on Next Gen IMO... they'll soak up the sales from the 360/PS3 and within a few months of next gen console release GTA V will hit the shelves... the people that are adamant there won't be a next gen version of V are the same people that said Micro$oft will never walk back those ridiculous restrictions. This is about one thing MONEY. Everything else, comes second and GTA V next gen will be a cash cow just like it will current gen. Most likely the next gen version will include some form of DLC whatever that may be to entice the complainers that will be mad they are buying it twice.....
