Destiny is an upcoming video game being developed by Bungie. The game will be an action role-playing first-person shooter

in a "mythic science fiction" open world setting. As part of a ten-year publishing deal with Activision, Destiny will be published by Activision

on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One video game consoles, with Bungie expecting that the project will have a ten-year

life cycle from its launch. A contract detailing Bungie and Activision's publishing agreement originally listed the game for release in Q3/Q4 2013.

Not sure if they'll release for PC, as of now.. it's not confirmed but Bungie did say, 'we would love to have Destiny on PC', so maybe at a later date

 

Also, Yes, Destiny will be Open World setting.

This will be better than Mass Effect I'm sure. Especially with the multiplayer that will be involved. Bungie multiplayer never lets the gamer down really. Mass Effect is mainly for it's Single-Player but after 3, it's the same ol song and dance.

Honestly i cant wait for this game. Other than GTAV this is my most anticipated game. I love Mass Effect and the RPG/Sci Fi Exploration type stuff.

It is quoted, "The game will be an action role-playing first-person shooter in a "mythic science fiction" open world setting", So I suppose that it is actually Open World and as far as competitive, I'm sure it is. Being there are other factions in the game such as the Fallen, Cabal, then your type (human I suppose), so I would imagine they would incorporate some sort of competitive multiplayer gameplay, as far as Co-Op, yes, there will be that. @TUBBS, I've never been a big fan of Halo, but after hearing about Destiny however long ago, I've been anticipating this one as well. Seems far, far different and something more of my type of sci-fi. I can't wait either.

Im really interested in Astronomy/Science. I really hope it has a realistic approach to it and not only a Halo like Story but also some Info about Planets and all that stuff, packed in the Story/Quests.

That's what I expect from next-gen. Innovation. It's a very risky project, reminds me of the times of the first Halo. I love Bungie.

Not sure how educational it will be but I think there will be some info on other planets and what not. Plus it's close to home.. Main areas will be Earth, Moon, Mars and Venus. So I'm excited to see what it has to offer as well.

This completely reminds me of RF Online.

It's set in a distant galaxy where 3 races - Accretian Empire, Bellato Union, Holy Alliance of Cora, fight each other for control(the player gets to choose w/c race to play as) of the planet's resources while fighting a much stronger force; the Herodians.

I've never really been into sci-fi games like Halo, or MMO-type games, but I must say: Destiny is looking very promising to bring a new type of genre to the consoles. I'm really excited to see more of this game at E3; I'm eager to find out more about the story, gameplay mechanics, the vastness of the open world, and the MMO-type multiplayer aspect.

 

Btw, how the hell has there not been a Destiny thread for this long!? Nonetheless, props to the OP for taking initiative!

Yeah.. I think Destiny will be another classic for gaming. I felt the same about no Destiny topic, lol. Maybe there wasn't enough information out about the game to make one, who knows. But I got dibs

 

I think when I finish building my PC, If they ever release it for PC, I'll play it on there as well. Something seems like this is going to be a great game.. better than that of Halo.

Bungie president Harold Ryan says the 'graphics are different, platform to platform' for Destiny.

 

What isn't clear is whether this means between the PS4 and Xbox One (as is asked in the question Ryan's responding to) or between the next-gen and current gen versions.

 

Responding to our question on what kind of special features we can expect for PS4 and Xbox One for Destiny, Ryan replies: "We’re not committing right now to any specific platform features. The great thing for us with timing is that we were making a new engine, and then two new consoles were coming out, which led us to invest more into making the new engine for it.

 

"There are a whole bunch of great opportunities for us to go after, like full player experiences, etc. We’re investigating all of those and building the core experience of Destiny, which will be similar across all the platforms. The graphics are different, obviously, platform to platform, but in a connected world, the game of Destiny is going to be awesome on all of them."
