wwinterj
I think it's a pleasant surprise. While I didn't think "dam GTA IV is missing a ocean floor!" when playing IV I do feel intrigued by it since R* said it's now included. Hunting for treasure, having NPC do the same, using the submarine, fish and sharks all are things I didn't expect and sound great. I'm looking forward to this part of the game. LackedMushroom0
Can't wait for underwater! Always wanted to ride a Submarine and such, going to be awesome. Exactly what I was thinking! I love this. They've never done this before. I'm really looking forward to the underwater exploring of ships that sank to the bottom of the sea
LittleBlueTroll
Or there could be no ocean floor just like in real life!...Wait no, that sounds wrong. Oh yeah i remember now, there has to be an ocean floor because otherwise the deepness would go on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever... Pause for breath... and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. But on a more serious note, underwater exploration is awesome. RedDagger
They've added something different and new, yet you're complaining that it's worse than what you normally get without even using it. Okay. Underwater, as said by pretty much everybody, is a lot simpler for the same area, plus you'll move around slower and it's dark so it'll feel larger. For the same amount of space as overground, it increases the exploration by more.
RandomNoun
How is it going to work when swimming out to sea though? Do you just get mauled by sharks or does your oxygen run out or what?
Dick Justice
For GTA IV, Rockstar wanted to create a living, breathing world. Now they're taking it to the next level. In a way, it's like the final frontier for GTA games. We had land, then we had air, now we have ocean... and I mean we really have it. You're right, not too many people asked for it. Yet now I can't imagine it without it. The thought of being able to jump in a submarine and go on a lookout for whatever you may find, only to find it and scuba in for a closer look. People complained that IV's map lacked variety, just imagine all the exploring you'll be able to do in coastal waters and lakes. It adds so much more than you'd think. Imagine finding a shipwreck that is 100 years old and down there is an old rifle that you can't obtain anywhere else in the game. That satisfaction alone would make it all worth it. Revolution-XW
I didn't say they shouldn't make underwater. I'm saying they have taken this feature and gone down too deep. How deep have they modelled down below Los Santos? Have hey even left room for the underground subway system? Almost seems like a cop out from having to give us extra towns and cities. No I'm not butthurt about SF and LV I wasn't one of those people desperate to have it. Getting geared up for a scuba trip will be a bitch. I can just imagine swimming around real slowly not getting anywhere fast. They better let us kill other ped's underwater like a harpoon gun. Or pull out there tubes and let ten drown. You haven't even played the game, or seen footage of gameplay, yet you conplain like a little girl. Really? Are you 10?
johnny_zoo
I don't mind under water but I think they overdid it. Thy could have saved that space on the disk for more towns and areas above land. Like the national forest or small parts of San Fierro. There's your answer right there. The oceanfloor is easier to model than more towns or more urban area. No need to create specific NPCs or a gazillion more models and textures. And yes, I don't think many GTA fans asked for the huge ass oceanfloor. Do you think that's the reason for Oceanfloor? Because Rockstar were too lazy to model new buildings and design new textures? That doesn't sound like the Rockstar work ethic at all. If it was we would be in GTA VIII Vicetown wars with Liberty avenue Andreas expansion packs. Still is odd, we ask for properties they say no instead they say "those guys don't need houses they need to look for the titanic." He'll no Rockstar! Make more land area that's what we want. They seem to have this backwards here. @mandragon Yeah that's rewarding good points. But I want to r able to kill ped's underwater it's all about options. If its just swimming for treasure then that's not fun much. What's the treasure? Money, gold? A pirate hook you can sell? @redDaggerXL No one cares about underwater. The overwater is more interesting.
GTAaLEX117
None cares about underwater. The overwater is more interesting. I care. I was mildly disappointed when they said that IV won't have any underwater diving and I hoped they would bring it back in V. I'm sure many people around here feel the same way. And the previous guy said that it takes less effort to make more underwater areas than a bit of countryside/city. And that's true.
Capricornus
Seriously, what made Rockstar include that they didn't have to. No one demanded it and if they didnt put it in no one would have complained. It makes me wonder just what the hell was the motivation behind it? Almost seems like a waste in a way. Is the whole sea floor around he the coastline explorable and for how deep? Think about it. It must be huge if we get submarines. I'm literally expecting a HUGE chasm like Mariana Trench deep. Seriously who has time to go play James Cameron? Not me. I don't mind under water but I think they overdid it. Thy could have saved that space on the disk for more towns and areas above land. Like the national forest or small parts of San Fierro. Once all the treasure has been found, you've seen all the ocean life and probs destroyed their habitat pretending your helping out and made the titanic movie. What other motivation will there be to go scuba diving? This is a rather silly question. I mean, one of the reasons they probably added underwater was simply for the sake of missions. Another reason? Most likely to give the player another part of the GTA world to explore other than land. And speak for yourself. You say things like "no one demanded it" but if you had been paying attention to these boards the last few years, specifically prior to GTA V's announcement, you'd know that there were a plethora of people who wanted to explore underwater in this game AND have the ability to scuba dive in addition to scuba gear. The James Cameron bit is just laughable. Obviously, those who have "time", something that it limitless in the free roaming on GTA, are the ones who want to explore the underwater world and let their imagination and curiosity take over whilst playing the game. Just keep away from it when you get the game. This isn't hard to understand at all. Edited May 27, 2013 by Capricornus

seVensantos
they included underwater because it was a feature in san andreas. 4 nostalgias sake they seemed 2 have brought back many things we did in san andreas but wanted 2 access on ps3 versions of the game & couldnt. im good with whatever they include in gtaV. my whole 1st ingame week will most likely be riding around & exploring EVERYTHING. i like how they gave us franklin 4 the nostalgia of san andreas - michael 4 the ones who want 2 live the life of luxury - & trevor 4 those who just want 2 wreck shop & go rampage crazy. kingbear08
You guy say its easier to do an ocean floor well they also developed it. Its not like you going down there and there isn't anything there! You have all the wild life, ship wrecks, corals, its not like its just gonna be a ship here and a coral there and crappy its going to be well developed just listen to the previews they were all amazed and your complaining about them adding this for everyone to enjoy. Its not like the land mass is that small you'll have your small towns in the country its not like its just going to be open road have fun you know. WTF! I for one will be exploring the entire game and all of its features and I'm sure we haven't heard the most of them yet. I'm looking forward to the off roading that you really couldn't do in GTA 4 I'm looking forward to hunting hell ill be surprised if they don't add in fishing with the wildlife in the game. But you sit there and complain about innovations and additions to a new game because you want more territory to explore oh wait 3.5 times of read dead isn't big enough hell it'll be a long time before you make it through the entire land mass. What other motivation will there be to go scuba diving? You explained their motivation in your post. Submarines, scuba diving, and finding treasure. Actually those are some of the benefits of their motivation. Their true motivation is the same as it is for the rest of the environments they create. They want to create the best underwater environment gamers have ever seen. R* is extremely ambitious, so it makes perfect sense for them to make a fully explorable ocean. You're doing the same thing so many members do. You're trying to figure out why R* did something you personally don't like or care about. There are so many aspects of GTA V we could do this with because we're all different, but the truth is we all know why certain stuff is included, even the stuff we don't like. That stuff is for the people who want it.

Dick Valor
So you'd rather have more cityscape or countryside (i.e., more of the same) than spear gun battles with great white sharks, treasure diving, scuba diving, submarines and submersibles. and a new means for evading wanted levels?
