The Point of the Oceanfloor?

Seriously, what made Rockstar include that they didn't have to. No one demanded it and if they didnt put it in no one would have complained. It makes me wonder just what the hell was the motivation behind it?

Almost seems like a waste in a way. Is the whole sea floor around he the coastline explorable and for how deep? Think about it. It must be huge if we get submarines. I'm literally expecting a HUGE chasm like Mariana Trench deep. Seriously who has time to go play James Cameron? Not me.

I don't mind under water but I think they overdid it. Thy could have saved that space on the disk for more towns and areas above land. Like the national forest or small parts of San Fierro. Once all the treasure has been found, you've seen all the ocean life and probs destroyed their habitat pretending your helping out and made the titanic movie. What other motivation will there be to go scuba diving?

Making underwater areas is considerably quicker than above ground.

It likely was more of a matter of time than of space.

It doesn't take that long to procedurally generate a large underwater areas and pepper it with some hand crafted points of interest. You're not going to get away with procedurally generating streets and buildings.

Speak for yourself, I am keen beans for the underwater and have wanted it ever since I couldn't go under in IV! It opens up the world in such an interactive way, plus when Wanted I can escape boat and helicopter fire and flank the police boats.

Shipwrecks, underwater caves (and the treasures they hide) and sea life tops it all off.

It still confuses me that folk don't want it in/question it's inclusion. It just ties together the whole living, breathing world. The thought of jumping out of a plane in scuba gear, landing in the ocean (without the jelly water from IV) and then proceeding to explore this beautiful foreign world, filled with interactive objects and lives (as well as the easter egg goodness) makes me giddy. Why get rid of all that for some more of the same (city/land)? Why sacrifice diversity for mediocrity? Plus the assumption that the underwater world is TAKING AWAY from the city/countryside as opposed to adding to it with its contrast is wildly stupid.

People are still butthurt about Los Santos' size and are looking for something to blame for it.

You know that Rockstar is the Game developer and not GTAForums?

Sure they are looking at some points what fans want in the game, but only the Developer knows if the concept of a feature works good in the whole gameplay and also technical.

For example: I want 5 full detailed Citys in GTA Five: Vice City, Liberty City, Los Santos, Las Venturas & San Fierro.

But everybody and mostly Rockstar can show me the finger and say: You know that we are developing on PS3 and not PS9.

You can find old equipment like classic cars and whatnot to unlock and use.

No one demanded for that? You are clearly wrong.

A waste? Did you play the game?

What is so bad about the shipwrecks with treasure in them? Even NPCs will search for those. And then there are sharks, underwater caves, etc. So there is plenty of stuff to do. Just because you don't like that part it doesn't mean it's unecessary.

This has me thinking as we have a submarine I wonder if the army also have a submarine ?

How cool would that be underwater battles : D

Sure they didn't need to include it but they did so deal with it.

It is something new and will make the world feel more real. San Andreas had it to some extent, did people complain about it then? I loved diving under water and seeing what was there. I also loved that mission where you had to swim up to the ship and assault it.

Everyone is different. People like you just want a bigger map so you can play San Fierro/Las Venturas. Get over it, they won't be in the game. People like me will probably spent more time down there that anywhere else. I'm fascinated by the ocean, sunken ships, fish/sharks, reefs.

I think Rockstar has made the right decision. They added more variety to make it more real and therefore people will have more to do in the game.

I didn't say they shouldn't make underwater. I'm saying they have taken this feature and gone down too deep. How deep have they modelled down below Los Santos? Have hey even left room for the underground subway system? Almost seems like a cop out from having to give us extra towns and cities. No I'm not butthurt about SF and LV I wasn't one of those people desperate to have it.

Getting geared up for a scuba trip will be a bitch. I can just imagine swimming around real slowly not getting anywhere fast. They better let us kill other ped's underwater like a harpoon gun. Or pull out there tubes and let ten drown.

I would rather have more city and countryside than ocean floor.

This

The speculated revealed map seems too small in my eyes

Los santos looks damned tiny. I would rather it twice the size and no ocean floor

But having said that I'm looking forward to diving. It looks like it might be peaceful

Once I learnt where the danger animals were in rdr, it became relaxing to ride around. Assuming we don't get attacked constantly underwater it looks like that'll be the same

But I would rather of had a larger LS if I'm honest

I also wonder what the point of the countryside is- if there's no other city, it'll feel pointless with it leading nowhere

And to the inevitable retards, I'm not bashing the game or saying it'll suck. I'm looking forward to both, but would rather a larger / second city

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I hope the scuba gear can be equipped without being in a boat. I hope I can pilot a tank out the back of a cargo plane into the sea and sink rapidly to the bottom and then get out and swim about all like

Underwater will be cool... and escaping from the police by hoping into a submarine would be fun! However, I do see where you're coming from... in a way it would be better if they had spent that time/effort making los santos a bit bigger, or maybe adding some other smaller towns.

I'm actually very excited for the underwater world. After playing IV for 5 years without being able to even go under water, it's about f*cking time.

P.S. Mokrie Dela, the "inevitable retards" are the ones that think Los Santos looks small. lol.gif

There's your answer right there.

The oceanfloor is easier to model than more towns or more urban area. No need to create specific NPCs or a gazillion more models and textures.

And yes, I don't think many GTA fans asked for the huge ass oceanfloor.

I think the question is, why shouldn't they? There are many benefits that a seabed would offer, including promoting exploration and increasing the overall variety of environments types. SA had this, so by following their formula of keep and improve (which, for technical reasons couldn't be implemented in IV), they kept and improved this environment type.

tbh the main thing is how fluid we can move under water, since that's what ruins most underwater parts of games, as long as moving around is made easy enough it will work well.

different locations in the game will probably feature different underwater settings, like a section of sea in the city will likely be polluted with lots of debris, murky water, sewage, junk, cars, or even bodies.

on the flip side there could be a more tropical setting, with crystal clear waters, coral reefs, scuba divers, and more fish and wildlife. a lot of the stuff in the shallow waters would be cool.

then for the deeper waters, who knows what we'll find, sunken ships, treasure or sh*t like that sounds right.

I think the reason they have added such a large explorable ocean is for the treasure collecting.

Treasure collecting = Hidden packages.

Yeah, but for things worth having.

Also for things to sell (like RDR but better).

Finding treasures and other stuff in sunken ships. f*cking cool. Can't wait to explore underwater too. Also people it's called diversity and it's Rockstar ,they do whatever the f*ck they want and explorable ocean ,way too cool.

There will be another city after all.

user posted image

That'd be quite a twist.. how cool would it be if there was a city under water.. like San Fierro? I mean like LS the city is at the coast and it could have been flooded after an earthquake where the city sunk down.

sad.gif

But I wouldn't exclude the possibilty of other stuff than the shipwrecks underwater. Like cars.

if you think there would be more towns if they didn't pay this much attention to the oceanfloor, then you're mistaken. Map layout is pretty much the first thing R* when they start working on a new GTA. They had the map sketched loong before they started to 3d model it
