San andreas released a couple months before xbox 360, they never ported san andreas.

That seems being a valid argument. Never thought of that.

GTAIV failed to boost MS and SONY consoles to sell and wasted millions, GTA V as New Gen Consoles launch title will boost sales like a rocket. I said it plenty of times I believe the PC version is being developed along side consoles (reason there is no lead platform this time) and it's already being ported from it to be a launch title. I can be wrong but if Rockstar is a smart business company thats what is gonna happen.

Who, in their right mind, would buy GTA 5, plus an expensive console, instead of buying GTA 5 for current gen and saving a sh*tload of money?

Your logic is flawed

someone who doesn't own a current gen console like me?

First of all before anyone says the classic "they haven't annonuced it, so no it will not be in next-gen consoles. It's released 17th of september for xbox360 & ps3" - type of people your argument is not valid. If this was the case then you could say bye bye to your pc-version too. Second thing is that PS4 & Xbox One are releasing world wide 2013 (probably near the christmas) that means GTA V would be sold about 2-3 months before the "next-gen wave" .

Yes not everyone is going to buy it day one, but there is a solid palyerbase after about 1month atleast. I mean even if the console sold 1-2 million units worldwide there would still be enough palyers because the amount of online games itself would be quite small at the beginning. Xbox 360 for example sold 300,000 copies in Europe and there were more buyers than they could sell the console. This time if one of the next-gens sell about 350,000 units in christmas the player base would be fine for europeans.

350K makes it worth spending the time porting? really? Let's not forget not every single person that buys a console is going to buy GTA V.

Currently there is about a user base of 50 odd million (give or take) on the current consoles.

Secondly on the PC side Steam logs in about 5-6 million at peak hours and that's just one game platform/service (there is many).

Your mathematics don't add up into profit signs for the Rockstar suits.

Not at all!

San Andreas released a good 13 months before the Xbox 360 became available for retail!

True, but San Andreas had been in development for several years, just like V has been. I don't think that when R* started coding V they had access to or Knowledge of the PS4 and Xbox 1 hardware. I think the release of GTA V so soon to the release of the next generation consoles is just odd timing. Remember, it was originally planned for May, which would give it quite some time before the release of the new consoles. But R* may be hiding the release to next gen, but i hope not, because the new consoles don't impress me, and for that money i could just buy a decent gaming PC. The whole reason i bought consoles in the first place was because it was cheaper than a new computer.

Probably what happened with SA will happen with V.

It's gonna be downloadable on the next gens.

I reckon it's likely.

GTA V will most likely be released on the PC. To get that version to the PS4/X1 won't be very hard at all. Considering there's so much money to be made taking that route I reckon it'll happen.

Did you miss something or didn't read what I was saying ? First of all I was speaking that 350,000 consoles (for xbox one) add ps4 to that and we have about 700,000 consoles sold in Europe in the first month. And this is just assuming that Sony and MS release about the same amount of consoles as last-gen release. World wide there's probably millions 2-5 or maybe even 6, but that's bit too much perhaps. The second thing I noticed you missing is the fact that the next-gen consoles are basically the same type of architecture as pc's which means that if they port the game to pc there is no reason why they would not port the game to next-gen seeing that they're about the same (atleast at the moment). Also I did not say that they wouldn't release it on current gen (of course they are). So if I buy it first on 360 and if there is a ps4 bundle with gta 5 in it I'll buy that when it arrives ofc. That way they can maximize their profit and keep the game alive longer than with only current gen consoles. Now the "math" adds up and seems perfectly logical. Meaning the profit would come from PC,Xbox 360,PS3,PS4 and Xbox One but hey nah rockstar don't bother port it to next gen even tough if they port it to pc there would be only small cost in porting it to next-gen (that would pay itself back many times) at the same time. But hey I'm probably wrong.

Indeed, Its like people need to reassure themselves by making these threads every day. All they do is get trolled by people saying it wont happen. Those trolls provide little reasoning or logic as to why it wont be on next gen.

The reality is it will make rockstar money long into the future, No business turns its nose up at hundreds of millions in profit and more and more game sales.

Just have to be patient, They want the current gen folk to go all out and buy up the game first..

Unrealistic figures again. Sony/Microsoft won't even have that many units to sell in the first month inside Europe.

yes, I know it shares a similar architecture, but they would still need to spend time tweaking the console version. It's not going to be a case of throw the source code onto a blu-ray disc and call it a day it'll have to be down scaled too.

It could happen but it ain't going to make them millions like you guys are saying. I'm doubtful they'll be chasing low/slow sales that the new consoles will bring in it's first two years.

The most likely senerio of seeing GTA on next gen is it being announce the same time as PC. With the architecture being so similar with Next Gen and PC a port should be fairly simple. Releasing them all at the same time six months or so after a current gen release, would bump sales all around.

Does anyone here seriously think Rockstar will produce possibly the most expensive game ever made then release it on as few platforms as possible just as a new console generation begins? It makes no sense whatsoever for them to release it only on the PS3 and 360.

Yeah forget about those figures. For some reason I can't get any valid numbers from wikipedia or anywhere else so (let's forget about those). Still even IF the palyer base is small it would not matter on the fact that it would grow in the first year massively. And still even tough the figures are way off it would be wise to port it considering they want to keep the game alive for couple years atleast ? Plus the cost would not be as high as porting from scratch (if they port it to pc). Plus the fact that many buyers would buy it again on the next-gen if it released.

Too tired to argue about this thing tough (as you can see from my figures that were completly random and I don't even know how I got them after reading it trough). If R* wants to keep GTA V alive for more than 1-2 years they either have to pull some fancy tactics or port it next-gen, because at this point I don't see it happening at all if they don't release it on next gen. They sure will do a massive mistake if so.

As I write this there is still another option that I didn't think about. There is a chance R* don't want their game to last many years. Meaning they have a another game under development like RDR 3 (red dead redemption is 2). Meaning they don't bother extend the life span of GTA V when a next AAA fully on next-gen hardware game releases. Other than that I don't see GTA V surviving as long as IV. Especially when they said their DLCs are not going to be anything like TLATD or TBOGT.

But I guess only time will tell.

According to EA, there is currently a 150 million base in current gen consoles, not every player will buy or actually buys games, but in terms of hardware those are the numbers, based on this they said today that they will support the platform with the regular games like FIFA, NHL, NFS, BF and so on to at least 2017 and more if it's justifiable. Although they'll create the same titles optimized for the new gen of consoles to deliver the expected quality.

As we know UBISOFT is doing exactly the same for Watch Dogs and Assassins Creed 4, the same goes for Crytec, Activision/ Infinity Ward, ID Software, Polyphony Digital and lot's of others.

So taking all of this into consideration along all I said before, what holds Rockstar from doing the same and take advantage of it? If my predictions are right and this time they've been working on a separated PC version for GTA V, the port for these new consoles only take few months without any major trouble like it was when porting from XB360 to PS3 and PC.

It's just a matter of logic, like it or not most likely will happen. In fact is the only reasonable explanation I can find for releasing the game in such a ridiculous window as in the middle of September... I mean, they could push it to October like always, but why they don't do that? Most likely because they need to market and sell much as they can till November.

But time will tell, my only fear is that if they decide to bring it to Next Gen Consoles, maybe they'll push the PC version even further... to make people buy the new consoles if they really want that optimized game. And as usual we'll end up getting the back of the bone... dozingoff.gif
