agent17
Has there been any news regarding the frame rate? All I could find is an article dating months ago saying that the fps has "been improved", but I've seen no solid figures. I ask this because having been an avid PC gamer for so long, going back to anything below 60fps is jarring. Not necessarily unbearable, but still annoying. I went back and played the PS3 version of IV today and I forgot how bad the fps was, especially on multiplayer. The frame rate will affect my purchasing decision greatly, if it's as bad as it was in IV I will just wait for the PC release, despite the painful wait. I apologize if this topic has been covered before, but after doing some searching I came out mostly empty handed.

Ash_735
If you want to hear 60fps on the consoles, forget about it, just don't buy the damn game, it'll most likely be in the 25 - 30fps area, the improved RAGE engine allowed Max Payne 3 to get up to around 35 - 40fps in some areas, but seeing as GTA V is open world, that will be a performance impact. FutoDriver
yeah, you are going to have to be realistic here, and accept it won't be a constant smooth frame rate. It most certainly will chug when a lot is happening on screen at once. I'm going in with this kind of mind set so I can enjoy the game for what it is. Grand Theft Savage
fps in the 30's I guess. It'll probably dip below that at times... You can only push current gen consoles so far.
Braindawg
Red Dead feels really smooth while playing on the 360. There was only a certain moment in the game were I've actually noticed a drop in frame rate. Where you meet Irish for the first time, and he leads you to the shack that contains the Gatling Gun. When you get to the shack, and go down the hill where the enemies are, theres a fire on the ground that emits a high FOV light which causes shadows to be casted and the frame rate to drop when getting too close to it. So as far as I'm concerned the frame rate should be smooth enough if my 360 slim runs Red Dead as smoothly as it does.

Red Dead Redemption was bare in comparison, hence the better performance.
HudS
expect 20-30 fps if you're lucky. But who knows, they could have super optimize the game and get it to constant 35 fps.

I'm going to refute you on this. 1. Majority of console games are frame limited to 30FPS. 2. Even IF the frame limit was removed the game would no achieve frames more than 31.5FPS. (Considering PS360's hardware specifications.) Sir, I would like to know where you got this from.
minwager
As long as it's better than GTA IV. That used to chug when just turning the camera to look down the street.
d3ex2
No, we don't have any solid figures. GTA V will never run over 30fps so 60fps is right out. Don't buy the game if it bothers you so much. Just wait for your perfect PC version. Nobody said anything bad about the performance so I guess it's at a steady FPS. Previewers say the game through a projector so that may have affected how it looked, I'm not sure. One thing I do know for a fact is that IV came out over 5 years ago and it was their first open world game this generation. I seriously doubt V will be as bad as IV. To be honest IV wasn't even that bad...then again I'm just a stupid console user so what do I know? I haven't been exposed to 60fps. RAGE has been improved over the last 5 years so the game will look and run better than IV did. Just don't expect amazing graphics running at 1080p 60fps. My guess: • 640p upscaled to 720p - this improves performances and adds a sort of blurring effect to make everything look smoother. It acts as a type of anti aliasing. Not sure about IV but Redemption had this. That game looks and runs amazing. Beautiful graphics and steady FPS. • 20-30fps - depending on where you are and what you are doing. Standing out in the desert you will get a higher FPS than flying a jet over Los Santos will trying to take out helicopters/jets.

Irish Thunder Baby
I haven't been exposed to 60fps. If you ever played a current gen COD(we all have at some point even if we don't like it) then you've experienced 60 fps.
RandomNoun
I think these inferior console FPS concern topics need to be lumped in with the weed smoking topics ...
Lukijs
LOL ,people are still making these Fram rate topics. THINK CAREFULLY PEOPLE ,why the f*ck R* would release laggy game ,also yes RDR was great but it was 3 years ago ,of course improvements are made to RAGE ,also they are still making game, also in none of previews you will find that game was laggin etc ,only issues have been some pop ups and that game looks dated to graphics whores that's. How dumb people have to be to not realise that.

Well, that just goes to show what 60fps means to me Yeah, the last one I played was Black Ops (1). I didn't know they games ran at 60fps. I never thought at one point "Damn, COD looks much smoother." I don't mind low frame rates. I played hundreds of hours of COD when I was obsessed with it and it didn't stop me enjoying other games with lower frame rates. I play Battlefield games now. COD does try to run at 60FPS on consoles but on average its only 35 to 45FPS for newer CODs especially BLOPS2. if COD does run at 60FPS on consoles then im not sure why i still feel that its laggy compared to PC. well then again COD runs around 345 FPS on my PC but i read from some forum awhile back(possibly GTAforums) that the eye can't tell the difference above 60FPS.
