Hey SausageInACan:

You're selection of hardware is great . I will explain to you the fine points

of a SSD : The Pro's & Cons.

---------Pro's (The Good Things)---------

.They will load up to windows @ a very fast rate i have a SSD & mine loads fast .11.8seconds last i timed it.

.Access - Files - Progams - & even games (if you have a big enough drive) ill get into that later

.Small can be placed pretty much anywhere you see fit (also helps with looks) aesthetics.

.There is no sound @ all with SSD as these type of drives don't have any moving parts.

---------Cons (The Bad Things)--------

.Price is a factor ,Tho if you can do a splurge & grab a decent size then great.

.Due to the Price factor Storage limits can be frustrating (I personally have a 128gb Plextor)

.With the Small size in storage you would only Mainly have Windows installed & normal Programs

.Storing -Games - Movies - Music - Tv Shows - Pictures- & so on ,will take up a huge amount of space on that drive

.Good Brands : Intel - Samsung ,is what most people go for .

Just 1 more thing on SSD Drives i like to have it as clean as possible :

meaning only Windows & Programs . I also like to re - direct my Downloads to another Drive.

---------(What I Have Done With My SSD & HDD's)

.On my SSD I have (Only) Windows - Programs such as - Norton - Benchamrks - Fraps - & so on .

All of my pictures - movies tv shows games & so on are on normal HDD Drives . Ill explain in detail .

.Drive 1 - SSD - Windows - Programs .

.Drive 2 - 1TB HDD Ipod Movies - Kids Movies Shows - My Movies

.Drive 3 - 1TB HDD Downloads - Installed Programs - Saved Programs

.Drive 4 - 1TB HDD My Music - My Pictures - My Tv Shows

Also if you want to re - direct you're Downloads - Firefox - tools Options - General - Downloads ,you will see a destination Folder Change it to what you like .

Ok lets get into what you have in mind for you're Build & discuss it :

---------CASE------

Corsair Obsidian 650D - Brilliant case ,has more than enough Grommets for you cable routing

very nice size CPU cut out bottom filter ,top fan ventilation is great ,& is able to do watercooling if you choose to later on . & so much more with that csae can be done ... biggrin.gif

---------CPU--------

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k - I have this CPU & it's great ( Just got it ,as i upgraded)

Very nice choice for a CPU .

On a personal note: i just it clocked to 4.7ghz with air cooling BUT i do recommend you look @ guides on how to do this, So you know it will not break by putting in silly voltages .

Do read those guides & if you want i can link you to them. No Drams There ..

---Mother-Board---

MSI: Z77A-Gd55 - Great choice the Mother Board , you will be flying with this just like the CPU .

I like it as well . biggrin.gif Well do all the things you will want to do ...

-----CPU-Cooler---

All i can say for this is this:

Pros-

Great idle temperatures

Easy and simple to install

Fan snaps in and out of place - no need to mess with clumsy wire clips

Lightweight (less stress on motherboard)

Includes hardware to attach an additional fan

Price

Cons-

None This pro cons was tacken from a Review & i mast say i agree 100% .So you most certainly have a winner here ,& the added option of putting 1 more fan on it ,if you chose to.

-------RAM-------

Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz -This will also run very well with you're set up ,some people will say gor for this go for that most likey to say Corsair ,Only go for what you want ,& besides it is after all 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz & that will be enough & then some.

You will be more than fine with this. Good choice .

I personally will be upgradeing my 1x4gb G-Skill to corsair 4x4gb 1600mhz,but that is just me .What you have is Plenty...

-------HDD-------

No issues with having them ,tho curious to know how many & what sizes are they ? biggrin.gif

--Power Supply--

Corsair CX Series 600 Watt - This will be ideal for you if you plan to only run 1xGPU ,it's a half modular PSU ,it's a great choice (for only 1 GPU) ... biggrin.gif

----DVD-Drive---

Any 1 you see fit in cost & looks is fine. as they all are likely to work just the same so find a cheap 1 it will still be great (Keep the the front looking black) ,No issues here what so ever. biggrin.gif

-------GPU-------

Now ill be honest here & say i don't have any experience with Radeon GPU's

So hopefully some 1 will be able to help you with it.

-----CONCLUSION-----

You most certainly knew what to get for you're build ,meaning you have done some research for you're build & i will say that it means a lot to see some 1 look around 1st & not ask 1st

(But no question is a bad-stupid question) With this build it will go well ,very well infact ...

Now to you're question up top - opinion ?

8/10 - power supply could be a slight bit better ,But will work with 1 GPU more than Fine.

that's the only thing. confused.gif

Also Remember : If You Need A Hand with the build ,how to fit this - how to do that - Do ask. we are here to help & guide you in the right Direction.

P.S. im also keen to see how this build ends up . GOOD LUCK WITH IT. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I am not sure what brand of HDD they are but I have three and they have one terabyte each.

And what brand would you recommend for a 100 gb SSD?

And I plan on having this build done by the end of June.

You can't buy a 100GB SSD. The usual sizes are 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1024GB. I have a 128GB Samsung 840 and it's pretty good (for as much that can be said about an SSD). The advantage with Samsung drives is that everything is made in house, whereas other manufacturers rely on other companies for certain parts. If I were buying an SSD, I'd certainly get a Samsung. Their level of performance is right up there at the top as well.

What was your budget? I'd go for a 7870 or a 670, next gen is the end of the year so requirements are probably going to increase a bit.

Allegedly GTX770 is supposed to be a rebranded GTX680 and should cost roughly the same as GTX670, so it might be worth checking out as well.

I think that would be very worthwhile, I was going to suggest it, I wasn't sure when it was releasing though.

It's speculated to release in the next two months, which is around when the last ones were released, I would wait that out, if it's not coming out yet or announced by then perhaps purchase your PC.

I think it well worth it to wait it out, like I said, next-generation is at most 6 months away in my opinion, and having lot's of processing power will come in very handy.

EDIT: Haswell is supposedely releasing like next month with a new socket type, so it could be worth waiting for that, otherwise you won't be able to upgrade your CPU.

According to Wiki GTX770 should be unveiled this month.

GTX770 will be released on May 31st.

According to hardware.info Dutch website it is identical equal to the GTX680.

Not bad, I only hope the price is good enough to effort it. and not just up to €/$500-600.

I hope soo. But it's kinda pointless because in our country the GTX680 costs around €450-550.

So no way the GTX770 will be 450.

No, the price is the same regardless USD and Euro.

The GTX780 costs in our country the same as in other countries with the USD: 650 Euros.

Depents on which GTX780, the Super Clocked with ACX coolers costs f*cking 700 Euros!

See the ridicolous prices here:

http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/listi...12&tk=7&lk=4037

On the other side it is a good thing to have a cheaper kind of GTX Titan. Just around 150-200 Euros more than the price of a GTX680.

The 780 will be around the same price as the 680 €500 when the other 700 series cards start popping out. So you would be able to get the 770 for €350 Euros, however you may have to wait a few months before that happens or longer before that happens.

However that's double the price of a 7850 which is at around €190, if you can afford to wait, and afford to spend. It is most definitely worth it. If you can't wait, go for a 670. If you can't afford to spend or wait, perhaps meet in the middle with a 7870 or a 660. which are both about on par. at €200.

A GTX 770 would be the best option in my opinion, the 780 will be quite expensive and as Yoyo mentioned in another topic the "80" cards aren't much better than the "70" cards but much more expensive.

So yeah, get a 770 if you can wait, also isn't this SausageInACan's topic? Haha.

Also the next generation of CPU's should be releasing in the next month or two, it could be worth waiting for those because then you get the new 2011 socket and you can upgrade the CPU in the future.

It's been ages since I ate sausage haha.

I'll see what I can do in future.

I have been browsing the net to gather all the informations about sockets, GPU, CPU's and even RAM.

It seems RAM can get in the way when having a big CPU cooler. Yoyo advised me a good CPU cooler.

In my room when it's summer, it can get very hot, around 30C degrees,

and you can guess, CPU/GPU gets hot. What I do know is I want a GPU with 2 fans, mostly EVGA GTX770 SC w/ ACX coolers.

I'll also wait for next geneartion CPU's. First there has to be motherboards made to make them compatible

with the next generations CPU's.

Are theey 2011 or LGA 1150 sockets? I hope the Fractal Design R4 will work with 2011 sockets.

Either way, I'll wait.

Ferocious Banger

I have a build similar to the OP's. But I don't have a GPU yet.

I was planning to buy a GTX 660 actually. But since the GTX 760 - a card that is about as powerful as the gtx 670, and as costly as GTX 660 is currently - is releasing anytime soon, I've decided against buying the 660.

I have a few questions though:

a) Have I done the right thing? How future proof will my PC be?

b) Should I SLI two gtx 660's ( they will drop in price )? My PSU is a 650 watt one.

I think it's a good choice, Like I said earlier in the topic, next generation is literally around the corner (Crazy it's been 8 years, holy f*ck time flies, wow.) so yeah buying a newer card is definitely worthwhile.

And by SLI'ing did you mean buy two 760's now? Or one and then another in a few months?

Finally an answer I was looking for.

Anyone keeps advising me to get SLI and I clearly

said I won't. It is also not that energy efficiency but they still keep advising me that.

It is an overkill and also a waste of money IMHO.
