Xbox360 / PS3 - which to choose?

so, this is a genuine question, I'm not looking for this to descend into some pointless fanboy'ism debate...

I'm fortunate enough to have both a 360 and a PS3 (along with a reasonable PC) - for GTA5 I have a slight quandary on which version I should choose to get it on, the reason for this is..

My 360 is currently in the living room, used by my daughter to jump around to a Kinnect game or two (ooff!) - I have previously preferred the 360, mainly due to I find the controller far more comfy than the PS3's and I have an Xbox live gold account. However, I rarely use it now since it's been commandeered, and when I do power it up it's deafening drive whir and lack of drive capacity (it's a surviving 20gb unit) starts to show it's age. I originally played GTA4, RDR and countless other games on it, it's been a trusty workhorse. But, I cant see me playing GTA5 in the living room with wife and daughter watching, not really conducive to family life!

So, my PS3 (and PC) are in my bolt hole of an office, the PS3 has really not been used to it's full potential, partly because I preferred the 360, however, I have enjoyed the Uncharted series and a couple of others on it, I'm looking forward to getting The Last Of Us and will therefore be giving it a bit of use again soon (other than a BD player) - I would automatically choose the PS3 for GTA5 were it not for the controller and, from what I have read, RDR on the PS3 ran at 640p (as opposed to 720p on the 360). I have heard that MP3 ran at 720p on the PS3 - do you guys believe (the PS3 buffs) that GTA5 will also be scaled to 720p? I have no experience of what GTA4, or the expansions were like on the PS3 as I only had them on the 360 (and later on the PC)

Anyway, interested in your thoughts and suggestions (constructive ones please!)

Cheers smile.gif

PS3 version.

-Rockstar has used PS3 to show-off GTA V so far.

-Blu-ray player, you only need one disc.

-Free multiplayer

360 version.

-Possibly 2 discs

I don't know

what is this the 20th thread about this ? anyhow.

Choose by these questions.

which controller do you like the most?

if you play online, which console does your friends play on ?

if you choose 360, there is a slight chance of it having multiple disc or you need to download data.

im like you tough, i have both, but i will buy it for 360, just because the 360 is mine & the ps3 is my familys.

With past titles, 360 had the edge due to being the lead development console, and the game was essentially ported to PS3, which is why those games looked better on 360.

360 isn't the lead console this time, and for what it's worth, all press demos have been on PS3 while in the past they were on 360.

I don't expect 360 to be worse than PS3 with GTAV, so it basically comes down to which room you'd rather play it in, as perfromance will be the same. 360 may require more than 1 disk, at least to install the game, but I doubt it'll require disk swapping while playing.

It does not really matter which version you get, unless you prefer one of either the PS3 or 360 controller. Oh, and if you don't wanna play GTA V on multiple discs, there is a high chance the 360 version my have this. I'm getting it for the PS3, as that is only console I own.

You choose. But if you asked me ? I'd say PS3.

There was nothing wrong with the PS3 version of GTA IV and RDR, they were more or less identical to the 360 versions, I saw both versions of these games. Don't listen to all those bullsh*t lies, I have both for my PS3, they look and play great.

Unless there is some major difference between the two versions performance-wise, which I highly doubt because both versions are being developed simultaneously (there is no lead platform), I would just go with whichever controller is more comfortable. I play all my multiplatform games on the 360 because of the PS3 controller's poor design. The squishy triggers and slippery analog sticks ruin the experience for me. Considering you already have an Xbox LIVE Gold account as well, I believe the 360 version would be best for you, barring any unforeseen technical issues.

I think this is the most ever posts regarding ps3 vs 360 without a console war breaking out, yay!

I'll probably get it on the 360.

They're both being worked on at the same time.

So the only difference will probably be the buttons.

I too find the 360 controller slightly more ergonomic. If you didn't already know, there are options to use the 360 controller on the PS3...

They are building the game separately on each platform so no porting over. They will push each console to the limit. Both games will look/perform almost exactly the same. The only differences will be so small that you will never notice them unless you actually compare both versions side by side.

So it doesn't really matter what version you get. When it comes to the consoles it's different. 360 will have multiple discs and require a subscription to Xbox Live to play on line. PS3 will have 1 disc and free online access.

just looking for advise.. ya know, what would you choose type thing.

I have a good grounding on what the 360 can (and can't) do, just not so much with the PS3 - if it wasn't for the fact MY 360 sounds like a small jet in the corner of the room and it's only got about 7gb of free space on it (and my daughter has claimed it) I would choose the 360 - the PS3 on the other hand is all mine, plenty of space, quiet, but IMO has a horrible controller (damn my big assed westernised hands!)

I'm not too bothered about multiplayer for this game, GTA has always been about the SP for me.

Normally I wouldn't give a sh*t - I'd just wait till all the 360/PS3 comparisons are out and make a poorly informed decision then, trouble is, there's no way i'm waiting to pick up GTA5, it's a day one purchase, i'm just dithering on which platform!

Just because you say it looks identical, doesn't make it true. There are differences, and the Ps3 version does run at a lower resolution.

If I say that the Ps3 BF3 looks better than the PC BF3, does that make it true?

No disrespect, but you aint gonna make me change my mind. I've seen both versions and that is my final verdict. In fact, I even personally prefer the look of the PS3 versions of GTA IV and RDR, even if you told me the 360 versions were 5080p and it were true.

Both games are kinda old now, no point in getting worked up over games that have long been released years ago. So just give it rest and respect my right to a personal opinion, even if you don't agree with it.

Whichever console you play most and prefer, I doubt there will be any differences in either version.

To late, this will end in flames and the death of kittens.

The console war has been discussed to within an inch of its life, and i feel like its brought me to within an inch of mine. Simple answer? Get it on whatever you prefer more.

PS3's all I've got, but my brother has an Xbox 360 so I dunno... I can't help but think that there were exclusive problems for PS3, like the fact that when you're wanted all cars magically vanish, and at any given time you'd never see more than 6-8 different types of cars on the road and loads of the model that you're driving, presumably to save ram by having the same models on.

Any Xboxers that can tell me they had these same problems, pipe up!

Have both, and never noticed the vannishing cars while wanted on either, and yeah, car cloning happens on both.
