Sailing huge cargo ships

Do you guys think we'll be able to see huge cargo ships sailing through the water? It would be cool and it would make the world feel more "alive", rather than making ships nothing more than static props.

I hope we can drive them. And cargo ships don't "sail" lol. If you find the sails on them let me know tounge.gif

I'm just saying "sail" for lack of a better word. You can't ride a boat turn.gif

Snake Without a Tongue

It'd be cool, but I doubt it. It'd be like piloting a building.

I remember people saying this during the SA hype 9 years ago.

A cargo ship moves from country to country.

GTA is just 1 country, or better said, just 1 city(region, whatever).

If we get cargo ships those things would probably just make circles around the map, totally pointless.

Like the planes in GTA 4. suicidal.gifsuicidal.gif

It's better than not seeing them in motion. It would add to the atmosphere of the game.

But that's about driving them, this is about seeing them sailing.

That airplane that is constantly taxiing the airport in GTA 4 sure added some atmosphere to the game. But after a few weeks it turned out into this really annoying thing because you knew the thing had no damn purpose. Everytime you crashed into it while starting a "Taxiing" multiplayer race it would totally make you mad as f*ck.

The sea is active, With wildlife and sunken boats. It would be stupid not to have Ai vessels docking or passing by the coast. I think we will be able to pilot yachts, dingies, fishing boats, subs .. smaller vessels.. I think tankers/cargo ships, ferries will just be AI like the 747. icon14.gif

They are marked in the map we have seen, so have a guess. They are not moving or do you think the map is changing when the ship is driving? That difficult.

Maybe there's some boats that are parked and other boats that are moving?

Just give up dude. Maybe on next gen we get that kind of ''living, breathing world'', but not right now.

No, I don't think we'll be able to. And I'm already mad about it, as I have been for every GTA since forever.

....

Peds are driving, walking..

Animals moving all over..

Planes are flying..

Ocean is alive..

Highways are flowing..

Yet ships moving around is impossible... Nice logic there. monocle.gif

I expect that the few cargo ships in the port shown on the GTAV map will be static, and sadly, will not have interiors. While it would be interesting to see these huge ships move around, either out to the open ocean or into port, I think it just is not practical in the game engine.

However, in the LA Harbor, there at typically several large cargo ships moored and waiting for port access. I hope there are a few of these ships, with actual interiors, that we can explore. They would be far enough away from all the polygons in the city, that conceivably they could have interiors without frame rate reduction or other problems.

I dont see why you think 1 or 2 ships coming into dock or passing by the coast every now and then will slow down frame rates yet 8 or 9 747s at the airport wont.

The ships wont be overly detailed.. Just little AI blobs of nothingness. I dont think we will be able to pilot them, I do think they will be moving AI. Just makes sense, If the ocean is alive.. and everything else is alive the docks will be also.

Well thats a feature for next gen then.. It is limitations. Remember the tug boat in GTA IV. Touch the map and the lag would reduce FPS Xbox 360 and PS3.

Yes would be good dude.

Also I find it strange the cranes at the dock should are not operable. Would be good to see NPC's and also the player use them.

It would be awesome! Remember that container ship anchored in front of San Fierro in SA? I believe it had interior smile.gif

Would be awesome too to have a sunken nuclear submarine with interior, though very unlikely biggrin.gif

Not to mention bloody fun! Would love to pick up vehicles with people inside, and drop them into the sea...

well there was a tugboat in IV, and when you drove it onto land, the entire game (for everyone in the game) because incredibly laggy. i think theres a limitation

Oh yeah! Didnt even think of that! I remember we could actually do that in GTA at one point. Remember in GTA 1, 2 it was part of a side mission. Man I would so love something like that back.
