HOW'S ANNIE?
Something I've come to the assumption of whilst reading the previews is that there will be no more random weapon pick-ups around the map. I've come to this assumption because of the fact that Rockstar seem to have adopted the RDR style weapon system where you get a gun once, and you keep that particular one. It seems that if they were around around the map that it would utterly defeat the purpose in having spending money to buy them. So I need to ask, do you think the random weapon pick-ups around the map will still be in the game or not?

I think you should have to level up to unlock different guns. ( Like RDR )
StateofMind15
^ pretty sure he's talking about single player. It was said in a preview that you get 12 slots for your weapon wheel, and I'm not 100% sure but I think it said you can only have 1 weapon type per slot so you won't be able to carry every single gun. MrcTOtheJ
I think we'll keep the weapons pick ups and one weapon per slot as allways because they mentioned picking our load out in the previews for heists. What's the point in a load out if I can carry Eight diffrent sniper rifles, two grenade launchers, four RPG's and 20 pistols? Just because we have RDR's weapon wheel I don't think we'll have all of the weapons per slot available at once. Also in RDR there where a few set locations to pick up weapons, the Henry repeater was found in a gang hideout in Mexico IIRC as was the LeMat revolver. But those are hardly random, I'm just saying we didn't buy all of them.

Bantri
No no no, the wheel is your inventory, whatever you have on you will show up there. I am sure you can save guns somehow, Saint's Row style probably, but I would think gun pickups would still provide ammo.

It's because, due to gun customisation, once you have the gun you keep it FOREVER so the modifications aren't redundant.

They mentioned you don’t drop the gun when it runs out of Ammo like in MP3 so that wouldn’t make it useless to mod a gun because you wouldn’t throw it away when you run out of Ammo, you just can't use it untill you get more. If that's what you're geting at.

But keeping a modified gun once it's out of ammo would make the mods worthwhile.

The only way you'd lose it is by picking another one of the same class up. Which I didn't see you mention but I think that may have been something you were geting at. Because you mention droping the weapon when it's out of ammo twice in your post.
GlitzyTomb
I kind of wonder if we'll have weapon pick ups too. If we unlock stuff in a similar way to Red Dead Redemption it wouldn't make a lot of sense, but if we can't pick weapons up as we run about the environment how do we stay up on ammo? Perhaps something similar to Red Dead Redemption's camp sites which replenished ammo and Dead Eye. You could run into a gun store to replenish ammo, or get ammo for killing other players, cops, or gang members, or by entering other logical buildings or vehicles. piper5by5
You guys remember though that there were indeed weapon pickups scattered around RDR in multiplayer, like the High Power Pistol, etc? So its very possible they will be in GTA V, but maybe on a smaller scale than GTA IV.

jameznash
I have played through GTA IV using the same principle. Not using any items that are found in random locations. No armour, no guns, etc.. The only thing I used was the odd health pack at a hospital - lets face it if you get hurt you go to a hospital and they make you better. It was a great way to play the game - It made you treat every enemy in a different way - What gun have they got - can I get it from them without the next bad guy killing me - make sure they don't fall or drop it where I cant get it. You do get given some good weapons in missions - so using the wisely or keeping them for later was good as well. I think this style of play in GTAV will make it a better game - it will be more like the real world.
Cyper
Well, I would never play if I had to ''level up'' weapons. I'm not interested in cosmetic rubbish. I want to play the game. So in that way I'd rather use cheats. Couldn't care less about unlocks, achievements and such.
