With the big Rockstar Newswire announcement at the tail end of this week, Meta and Pusher wanted to take a quick moment to give their opinions on what is being offered in these two new editions of GTA V, also to comment on the significance of Collectors and Special Editions in General. On the tail end we are happy to announce The Warriors will be out for PSN going into this next week. As always, Enjoy.

I think a weekly commitment is where a few others go wrong we pretty much just process the new info as it comes, glad you enjoyed it. smile.gif

Great podcast. You guys really summed up my feelings on the Collectors edition. Everyone acts like its not fair or their being cheated, which I don't get honestly. I mean if we didn't get extras with the Collector Edition what motive would there be to purchase it? Simple economics, pay more get more, that's how the world works.

About to watch the podcast, good to see another vid from you guys, always exciting and relaxing. icon14.gif

EDIT: The map feels like it's going to be big when were on the ground, everything around us will feel big. But somehow, the part of the map shown to us makes me feel like the streets and properties/space look tight, closed in small.

I'm sure the entire map view will look the way they make it sound, though.

Really nice video, I had a feeling one of these would be made haha. But what got me thinking was it the right thing to show a bit of the map on the blueprint when Rockstar showed the Collectors and Special Edition?

Nice cast guys!

I'm surprised at how much info was in the announcement (pre-ordered the collector's from R*W btw) and it raised a few Q's too - like what does it mean to have the car in GTA Online?

I really enjoyed this podcast, though I dissagreed on the point of the special and collector's edition. I feel like people who just want the full ingame experience are being ripped off into buying a bunch of useless trinkets. If R* would inform us that all the ingame extra's will become dlc, then they would be selling a lot less special and collectors editions.

If you truly care about all the external stuff that comes along with it, then you obviously aren't being ripped off. But if you are wasting so much money on it it because of the DLC, which 2/3 of the people who buy it are doing, then you are getting ripped off in my opinion.

Rockstar is obviously just another corporation, which makes them only profit driven, so it does not surprise me that they are doing this, but that does not make what they are doing fair. If they were fair, then they would either give everyone the same ingame experience and make the special editions for people who like the trinkets, or they would inform us about wether the dlc can be bought seperate from the special editions.

I actually feel like launch dlc is a rip off per definition. But if they inform us about it then we would at least be informed consumers and would have a more fair way to make up our minds about what we want to spend our money on (and wether this includes hats and bags).

And saying "this is an industry standard" is an is/ought fallacy. The normative question is wether it ought to be a standard, not wether it is one.

And saying "this is an industry standard" is an is/ought fallacy. The normative question is wether it ought to be a standard, not whether it is one.

Fair enough, there's certainly an argument to be made about that standard and whether or not it is fair to the consumer but my point in saying what I said is that Rockstar Games shouldn't shoulder the brunt for that practice or consumers disdain for it. The fact is, as idealistic or good willed as Rockstar Games ever might be as a company, whom, we as fans hold to a standard above the rest simply out of admiration, they are still a business at the end of the day. As such, they are obligated to produce things that are popular and that sell well to the consumer. In this case these type of Editions do that effectively with the hardcore fans of the game. With this type of purchase comes the expectation that a combination of items from physical to digital will be bundled and packaged and made available to those willing to pay a bit more, thus the enticement of the purchase.

We've also crossed a bridge as consumers that if nothing digital was made available for those editions we would feel also cheated if only physical items came with these Special or Collectors edition and a large group of us would opt for the standard edition. There really is no getting around that expectation. Communism would suggest equal things distributed to everyone regardless of what's invested would serve the interest of "fairness" or the common good, as it were but this simply is not how things work in a Capitalistic society.

As far as informing the consumer about whether or not many of these digital items would become available at a latter time so that they can make an informed decision as to whether to buy it now or to wait for it to be made available later, from a sales standpoint, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot, literally removing the immediate demand for the item, in the same way they would presently if they formally announced plans for GTA V on next gen consoles prior to cashing in on the sales revenue generated from this generation of consoles.

To be fair to that, I will say they have been very good about making the DLC available down the road. Max Payne 3 in particular had quite a bit of DLC that was broken up and distributed uniquely across a large number of consoles and outlets. In time, just about everything they sold as a day one DLC incentive, they either ended up giving away for free or selling for a very reasonable price on Marketplace in the interest of making it available to everyone. A very "no content left behind" approach in the end was pulled off, which is quite admirable.

Thanks for watching.

This is very true. I understand that as a business they have no other option. But that is the is perspective and not the ought perspective. Giving us consumers full information so that we can make informed choices was my main point about fairness. If we both agree that this is something they should but can not do, then we fully agree.

It's good to talk in a civilized way on here for once. Whenever someone dissagrees with me on here the standard reaction is "get out if you don't agree with me, you are an idiot because you don't share my views". I get very annoyed by that.

Occasionally common civility and a bit of decorum is afforded but in environs such as these, they often come at a premium so enjoy it where you find it, my friend. monocle.gif

Agreed. Why would you get worked up over a couple of vehicles and weapons DLC which will very likely be available for free or purchase later on as meta pointed out? As for the stunt plane trials, you could always like use your imagination - I mean can't you just make up your own using the blimp or something?

Anyways good stuff as always, looking forward for the next edition.

It's funny how that standard we hold them to seems to vary depending on who you ask. Don't get me wrong, I love R* and most games they make. I just wish that as a "business" they tried a little harder to stay on top of things. Most businesses have deadlines and a certain level of customer service that they maintain. I get that the all the delays are to make their games "better", why not wait a bit to give a release date. Giving a window like "Spring" and then missing it by months sounds like some pretty poor management. (Oh I know I'm gonna hear it for this)

The Max Paune DLCs were pretty good, but again, all delayed, and some were changed from what they were suppose to be to a stupid horde mode. The first one that came out somehow made my game not work properly. After about 3 weeks of the back and forth I was told there was a patch coming out soon. A week went by and I got a message from R* asking me if the patch fixed the problem. The patch wasn't even available yet, not for 2 or 3 more days. Of couse it didn't help and I asked if my XBOX could be the problem. "Oh no", they said, it must be your Internet connection. I went a bought anew XBOX and the problem was solved. Now I realize that the stupid XBOX wasn't R*'s fault, but they did little to nothing to actually help. I know how to reset my router and clear the cache on my XBOX...

I just hope that the V multiplayer isn't a fukd as Max's was and still is. Just 2 nights ago I was playing with a fellow GTAF crew member and encountered an invisible guy. Later I was "removed due to connection issuers" (for the billionth time). Ask meta about it, maybe that's why he hasnt been on in over 2 months. We miss our crew leader, but I can't really blame him for not wanting to play...

I was thinkin the same thing, they worded it very smartly in saying "players will instantly receive a garage with cars" full stop...on single player ull get etc then they said online ull get the electric car...I'm hoping ull have some sort of online garage to store your fav cars in!

Would be abit of a ball ache to mod up a car then not be n,e t save it online!

CarpetDweller

This is the first gtav.net podcast I've listened to, but I'll now be checking out the previous ones and others when they're produced.

I like this style of podcast where it sounds like a relaxed conversation between friends about stuff they enjoy. Sometimes when images are added to audio they can come across as distracting, gimmicky or pointless, but I enjoyed the video here and it flowed with the discussion.

I share the same thoughts on collectors editions. I think the majority of the arguments come down to whether you see them as 'EXTRA content added to an already complete game' or 'stuff that would have been in the full game which was only removed in order to charge more for it'. In this instance my opinion is that the collectors/special edition are adding extra content and therefore I am happy.

I have no issue with day-one DLC as no matter when it comes out they really should have been planning it alongside the original content in order to intergrate it correctly and not just rush something out. A consumer should judge whether any purchase is worth it to them alone.

I don't buy the majority of collectors editions, but have no issue with them existing for consumers to have a choice. I'm very happy with those I have purchased and still use my GTAIV lockbox and dufflebag regularly. I have my own view on what I want in a perfect collectors editon and also what I see as useless tat that will clutter my home, but that's really for another topic.

Anyway, I enjoyed this podcast and look forward to hearing more.

Cool episode!

As the casual gamer, the garage was the main appealing thing that convinced me to get the collectors edition. I'm sure I'll enjoy the other content, minus the deposit bag -wife called dibs, but wish there was more property or starting cash included.

I think your online cars, garage, clothing, house etc will be on the other side of a pause screen, which will take you out of Free Roam multiplayer - rather like the outfitter in Red Dead. You can then choose your load-out in peace then pass through another pause screen to rejoin GTA Online

Now that we know the fourth character slot will be your online character, I'm guessing that you will arrive at thet character in your own private map, as you would in party mode in GTA IV. That map would contain all your houses, garages, cars, boats, planes whatever that you have accumulated while ranking up in GTA Online.

You would start your GTA Online career with the most basic stuff, like a trailer in Blain County or a house in the hood with perhaps a safe parking spot. As you rank up in MP bigger properties become available to you with bigger garages, wardrobes and arsenals until you have earned everything available. You then get the choice to prestige and start from the bottom again.

What I think would be "revolutionary" as R* put it - would be if everything that was open to the three main characters in single player was available to your online character: tuning cars, tattoo parlours etc, because if the switch is as instant as the switch between Franklin, Trevor and Michael then you won't be loading into another gameworld.

The switching would go something like this:

Trevor > online character in property :::Pause Screen::: Online Free Roam :::Pause Screen::: online character in property > Michael, Trevor or Franklin

BUT THE BENZ

ha good podcast again. Conveniently brought up and explained the special edition/dlc content debate aswell. Good talk. I guess this is what happened earlier:

R* calls meta

Meta: yo?

R* : meta, it's R*

Meta: oh, what's up R*?

R*: you and pusher need to smooth out things with the forum bobs. you need to release podcast III

Meta: I was gonna do that in a few weeks or so.

R*: don't get sassy here. you have to do it now and you gotta talk about the editions content and how people shouldn't be upset over it.

Meta: meh...I do? I always get to clean up the mess.

R*: yes we wouldn't call you otherwise

meta: oh I see that's how you play it. I actually wanted to talk to you about- *interrupted*

R*: aaaaand we out the doe'

meta: what?

R*: beep beep beep ...*hung up*

Sadly, I was unable to attend. My jobs and school would not allow for that. However, given another opportunity I will do my best to be able to make that happen.
