GTA V will most likely run on the RDR engine

With random encounters, animals, the combat jog and other elements that resemble RDR, I can only speculate that GTA V will run on an updated engine that is based off of Red Dead.

From reading reviews and hearing people whove seen the game talk about it, it gives me the feeling that it's gonna feel a lot like RDR. I dont know why.

This might be another pointless thread but it might be worth noting. There are lots of things in RDR that I liked, just like there are some I didnt.

What do you think? What kind of features from RDR or past GTAs would you like to see in the newest installment of GTA?

I think it's both Max Payne 3 and RDR engines as the weapon animations are from Max Payne 3.

no sh*t its the improved RAGE engine, all Rockstar games since 2008 run on that, including GTA V. It was already known.

Well I wouldn't think of it running on a lower dated engine. Rockstar is only looking to improve their hardware. But features I would like to see is pretty much what's been discuss and told to us in previews. I want a little bit of everything max Payne gun play to midnight club car handling and customization to rdr wildlife and euphoria engine.

I didn't really have any major problems with the way RDR played. One of my main issues with that game was the size of the map and having to go everywhere on a horse, f*ck living in a time without cars tounge.gif

Oh and climbing. I think climbing was a problem in every Rockstar game since San Andreas. IV and RDR climbing felt clunky and unmanageable. So i really hope that is greatly improved. There are San Andreas Parkour Cleo mods that feel so much better that what was actually in game in IV and RDR.

I would have nothing wrong with it feeling similar to RDR, in fact I'd be more than happy to have that. I can see Michael's special ability having a likeness to dead eye.

It's different builds of the RAGE engine. But certainly not indentical to one another. So don't "DUH" me, boy.

It took about 13 posts for this topic to go to sh*t. And i am not even sure why the OP is getting so much abuse, this topic isn't half as stupid as some of the other ones people post.

At least we can make logical and reasonable conversation about the game engine as we have seen trailers, and can try and compare the mechanics to RDR, IV or Max Payne 3. But instead it descends to chaos.

The engine all Rockstar games run on is RAGE. Which stands for RockStar Advanced Game Engine. They continuously improve on it. So the next game contains featured introduced in max payne and every other rockstar game. For example they changed the health system in RDR. That adjustment will be carried forwards in the engine to every other new game, until further improved or changed.

Here is the quote from The Benz:

"We had a lot of the North team working on RDR and LA Noire, which allowed us to gain experience of other projects and how to solve problems and use them within the new game engine we've created for V."

The thread went to sh*t because he is preaching the obvious. Different builds of the RAGE engine is still the RAGE engine.

It helps to know what a game engine is. A game engine is independent code that provides the same core functions.

So gameplay mechanics and features are not part of this definition because they are not independent.

Case in point, both Need For Speed: Rivals and Battlefield 4 are using the Frostbite 3 engine.

All R* games for this Gen /except from CTW) runs on RAGE, the thing is, R* San Diego heavily RAGE to make RDR, and R* Vancouer updated it to make MP3, so Is doing R* North to make GTA V, It´s not that the game is running in the same engine update/version, each studio modifies their game engines, so they can have the rusults they want, because you can´t get the same results we are seeing in GTA V using the exact same version of RAGE used for RDR.

What EA is doing with Frostbite 3 is basically what R* is doing with RAGE, It's the same engine, but they update it/modify it.

All Rockstar games since Table Tennis in 2006 are based on the same engine, just with the difference that the engine is differently customized for each game. GTAV combines all improvements from titles that were released since GTA IV when it comes to gameplay and mechanics, but it also includes various improvements of the engine of each past title; it has a bit from everything, while being well optimized.

The one thing about RDR that pissed me off was that when we had those long rides for missions and such.. the road just wasn't fun for me when you had to go off-road for things to happen/find stuff.

When, whut, where, how is, what did you, ar are you drunk or what?!

All the games run on the rage engine and all slightly different/modified/improved versions... Why the hell would gtaV run on RDR's version then? suicidal.gif

You are heavily contradicting yourself, do you realize that? -.- (boy.......)

I liked Red Dead, a lot. The only thing I didn't like was the shooting. You wouldn't always have to be aiming directly at the target to hit it, which I found really strange. Also the damage system was sh*t, online I usually played Hardcore yet people still took like 7 hits to die.

Unless that's just connection issues I don't know.

What? It's the RAGE.

And RDR didn't have Screen Space Ambient Occlusion while Max Payne 3 had, and GTA V has it too.

In conclusion: GTA V is running using the Max Payne 3's version of RAGE's build.

Rockstar said that they have learnt from all their open games previous to V, so that'd include optimisation of RAGE.
