With the new generation of consoles just around the corner Of course it will look dated if they compare it to next gen graphics... You know, it's really possible that before they saw GTA V, that they've seen a next-gen game, like Watch_Dogs maybe. It's ridiculous to do so, but i wouldn't put it past some media to actually compare a current game to a next-gen game. I'll just continue to believe what CVG said. I don't recall that tbh. V looked like a RDR-IV mix from the first images we've seen and it's what it will look like in the end. kesta195 Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 The only reason I have ANY concern for the graphics is because idiot reviewers like IGN will give the game a bad rap for 'sub-par' graphics, even though they consistently praise Call of Duty for it's visuals, despite the fact they have not made any significant improvements for 6 years. I think they are bringing up valid points now. I think the main problem is the RAGE engine which is extremely dated. That was made back in like 2004/5? I was playing RDR and couldnt help but notice minor frame rate issues. Not bothered really but in 2010 on 360 hardware I expect flawless framerate from the RAGE engine. I dont know much about game engines but I hope they either update it for the next gen harware PS4 and produce graphics on the same level of realism as I have seen Watch Dogs. Im sure V will beat it. *games like Uncharted 3 maby are more "eyecandy" with bright colors amazing light efects but in terms of scale and reality IV is the best. Do the maths, console performance and optimisation has come a long way since. Even then, it still looks light-years better than IV, more like Max Payne 3. I'm sure they talk to the team who is in charge the of RAGE engine everyday. Which is located at R* san diego. During a interview a few years back on 1up.com R* did a interview about the RAGE engine here is a quote from the article: Are there any advantages to the fact that Rockstar have developed and own the engine? AF: The main advantage is we have control over the direction the engine takes. If we need something for our game we have a direct connection with the guys who would be developing it. We get early access to systems which might not be completely finished but are ready for development use. Bugs get fixed in days, not weeks or months. This has been especially important as we reached the end of the project. We talk to the RAGE guys every day. We know what is happening with RAGE on a day to day basis. Sandy Roger: Definitely, working with guys in house gave us much more input into the development of the RAGE engine, and gave us direct access to the guys who made it which has helped enormously. Anybody shouldn't have no worries about the graphics of GTA V. Im am positive that everything will look improved as we draw closer to release. uzi 9mm Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 Well it's only natural with the next gen consoles around the corner, but think about the fact that GTA on the next gen will be even better, just think, the fact that they can even compare GTA V to next gen games in the first place should be a good idea of how sick the game will be. I'm not going to think much about how the graphics compare to next gen games since I'm not planning on experiencing the next gen for a while now still, I'm just gonna play V for what it is, enjoy it, and wait for the next gen gta, which i dont think will be that long of a wait... think about it, the 5 year gap can't just have been for GTA V, r* must have already been working on the next gen gta so that by the time of V's release, the wait for the next game won't be so long. stobe187 Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 It's pointless to compare the visual fidelity of V to the likes of uncharted, tomb raider, bioshock infinite or let's say the latter 2 dead space games because of the sheer size of the playable area. It might be easy to crank out detail from these ancient machines with 512mb of ram when the entire level is like 500 meters by 50 meters like some levels are in the uncharted series. In V you can grab any vehicle, go anywhere and do what you want. In a huge map. And yet while capable of all that, from what I understand it looks very presentable indeed. I for one think that is a big achievement on its own right. I think some of you are expecting a total mess, and by all means you have the right to do so.
