If it is on par with RDR- consider me a happy camper. But I don't think many reviewers will view it that way, resulting in V scoring lower than IV. well, with GTA IV being the most overrated video game in video gaming history that's quite possible. GTA IV was a great game for its time, graphically as well as gameplay wise. Well, some people were saying that, and others were saying that it looked no better than IV. My first post was a thread detailing how the latter group was wrong (and also debunked the former group). So there's always been the same sort of discrepancy. I think that the graphics look very good, and they have ever since the first trailer. It looks slightly improved from RDR in many ways, with a color palette fitting its location and tone. Obviously the color palette is the biggest difference between GTA V and GTA IV, but there are many technical improvements as well, some more subtle than others, which combine to make an overall pretty big difference even to the untrained eye. Among my favorite improvements is that street lamps actually cast shadows! (See the latest trailers for evidence, especially Franklin's trailer with all the night-time shots). You are kidding aren't you? To this day I still play GTA IV and EFLC more than any other video game. You are aware you are posting on a GTA forum right? IV was the first time Rockstar were able to create a city that truly felt real. I loved the series before IV, obviously, and they have so much sentimental value to me. But IV is the best game of all time, for me anyway. If the graphics are on par with RDR, the shooting and movement mechanics are similar to Max Payne 3, and everything else is a refined version of IV, it will easily be the greatest accomplishment in gaming to date, IMO. NikoBellic1993 Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 well i do have to agree. there wasn't much of a difference from IV other than contrast and slightly better textures. if you compare ANY AAA game that came out last 2 years and upcoming games to V in terms of graphics, you would notice it. just look at the cardboard interiors and terrible AA and view distance. also noticed some texture pop ups in the ingame screenshots (eg: half of the building textures is loaded while the other half is still loading) Since i've been on this forum all i've seen you is talk sh*t about GTA . The graphics can appear to be sharper but if the rest doesn't look good, how much does it actually matter that the graphics are 'sharper'? GTAV looks better in many areas, even compared to a heavily modded IV on a High-End PC due to the technical improvements of the engine. I guess they see everything from amazing to sh*tty games all the time so maybe they're just jaded. Realistically though, neither anything that we've seen on PS4 or Xbox One is all that impressive. Right now, next-gen looks like this gen with slightly better textures and lighting across the board. I'm hyped for next gen but E3 will really have to bring it for me to even care because we haven't seen anything from either side at this point that screams next gen has arrived and you'll be playing it in 3-4 months. So while everyone is bickering, I'll be PLAYING NOT WATCHING the single greatest game of this generation come September 17, 2013. The previous ones had a bit too much effect. And i didnt try to take a good screenshot just randomly stood up and pressed keyboard while playing it on hdtv with x360 gamepad:) My overall point is: GTA V will look 'dated' on current gen consoles because of technical limitations. I find many of the Icehancers and whatnot actually look pretty ugly and over the top. I much prefer colour palette, lighting and atmosphere and GTAV has all 3 in spades and much more improved over GTA IV. Im not fussed on sharpness and AA. Even comparing it to that...I haven't yet seen any next gen graphics that completely blow my mind. Next gen is so new, that I dont even think next gen graphics actually look "next gen" yet. The only way to explain this is some people have just been playing current gen for so long, theyre getting bored with current gen graphics, and the few and slight limitations they have, and they're already dreaming of something better. This is going to be the BEST LOOKING open world of this size, detail and variety. If they manage to get it to look as good as Red Dead Redemption I will be completely happy but i think even that might be asking too much of current hardware given the size of the world it is presenting.
