The funny thing is these abilities will be optional.. don't want to use them. Don't.

But I can tell you one thing. every player... will use them. hate them or not.

I have not heard that they will be optional, can you site a source for that?

.... You either push the button to trigger them or not. Just like any other ability in any other game.

which means they are optional suicidal.gif

So they aren't optional? Optional would mean you can turn them off in the menu completely.

It's like saying: shooting is an optional feature in GTA. Don't get a weapon and you don't have to.

What... Yeah, that's exactly what it is.

Anything in the game is optional... no one is making you go around (free-roam) in a GTA world killing people, no one is making you jack a car, no one is making you skip red lights... that's all optional. It doesn't have to have an option in the menus to turn on or off to become optional.

"op·tion·al"

Adjective- Available to be chosen but not obligatory."

and to answer you're question about missions.. well I guess we will have a mission were they show you how to use it and that's it.

So it's not optional at all. Or only as optional as everything because it's optional to buy the game.

Funny how people think rockstar can pull off a jail system, a fuel system, and f*cking traffic laws, but the minute powers get introduced, they're all like "GTA IS RUINED FOREVER!".

Well I feel as though there is a certain loss of "realism" when you begin to introduce things like powers. I understand realism is a overused word when talking about video games but I can go to Jail IRL, I put fuel in my car IRL and I have to obey 'f*cking" traffic laws IRL., but not once yet have I or any one else slowed down time. In my opinion they are sacrificing some level of realism for a feature that alters gameplay. So I feel as though that warrants a discussion from the community.

Prior to Rockstar saying we had in game powers, I never recall hearing one person say "Man GTA is a great game, but I really wish I could alter time" The feature just seems out of place in the franchise and I fear that it is a trend that will cause GTA to drift further away from realism and become another arcade influenced bag of tricks.

All I was attempting to do was gauge others feelings on the matter, not once did I say that "GTA is ruined forever" and it most certainly is not going to stop me from buying the game.

Well... I always kind of thought slow-motion shooting would be fun in GTA, because I loved it in RDR.

the abilties itself are cool but its rediculous that if you buy the special edition the regenning is 25% faster. c'mon!

yeah, thats a major reason why Im not buying the special edition. I hardly even want those features to regenerate fast at all, I hardly even want them in the game. Why pay money to put the game on easy mode?

The only one I'm really looking forward to is Franklins, it was so hard to get the Camera mode angle and watch a car crash in slowmotion in IV, Doing it in any camera mode will be great

PS: to do it in IV put the cinematic mode and press L3

You do bring up a good point that I had not considered, car crashes will be great in slow motion.

Don't use them if you don't like them.

They sound cool I think. Especially what is basically bullet time while driving.

And really, Red Dead basically had a slowdown mechanic during shootouts three years ago. Don't think these will really change GTA's gameplay much. They've even said in previews that they don't recharge terribly fast so it's not like you can spam them.

And now to dissect.

"I can go to Jail IRL, I put fuel in my car IRL and I have to obey 'f*cking" traffic laws IRL."

Which is why they shouldn't be in the game. They're the worst parts of reality.

"but not once yet have I or any one else slowed down time"

Which is why we should be able to do it in the game. Because we can't in reality. That is why I play games. I play arkham city to be batman. I play mario to journey to a kingdom straight out of a storybook and several drug hallucinations. I play metroid to be a space bounty hunter who kicks alien ass and doesn't care that she's female.

What I don't play games to do is chores. Washing the dishes, mowing the lawn, keeping the car topped up on fuel, paying taxes, going to the bathroom, getting food, maintaining the car, changing tires, changing oil, paying bills, and so on. Sitting in traffic is not fun. Getting traffic tickets is not fun. Sitting around in a cell is not fun. Eating virtual food that you can't actually taste is not fun. Getting gas is not fun.

And we can all sit around and pretend that GTA is a game that's relevant to the narrative of life and america. We can pretend that politicians will play it and realize they're being crazy. We can pretend the curator of the f*ckin' smithsonian will play it and then make it his number one art exhibit. We can pretend every movie critic will praise it as the greatest thing ever and hollywood will finally allow video games into the oscars.

At the end of the day, when all of the dramatic revelations and big twists are done with, most of us are just going to run over people and blow sh*t up and slow time down to watch a headshot in slow motion. Some people won't, and that's fine with me. But GTA is not heavy rain or beyond two souls or the walking dead. Nor should it be. In the end, Grand theft auto will always be a place to do crazy movie crimes that you've seen in crazy crime movies. That's fine. And it will probably have a great story, which will be a lovely bonus.

But when someone sits there and tells me that it's more fun sitting in traffic than slowing down time and shooting someone in the nuts, I can't take them seriously. I mean, mafia II has traffic laws and it's DLC has free roam. Why don't you just go play that? See how fun traffic tickets are.

it's very gimmicky and takes away from the realism i loved in gta IV. hopefully with the rockstar shine they'll be able to make it an inviting feature for people like me.

GTA IV wasn't anymore realistic than other GTA games gameplay wise, only in the story somewhat, you could eat a hotdog to heal all your wounds, you had invisible impenetrable armor that only allowed injury after it "ran out", you could crash your car at very high speeds and come out unscathed (with the car still working), carry a sh*t ton of guns and ammo in your jacket, etc.

I defiantly get what your saying, and you make some valid points. I suppose you are correct, games are a way to escape reality and be someone you are not able to be IRL. I guess the point I was trying to articulate was that I want a certain level of reality, and I think the abilities take away from that. But that's why I started this thread, to see how the community feels about them.

Thanks for the response, well articulated and made me think of them in a different way.

They just think it's out of place.

The only ability I think that is out of place is Trevor's.

I can`t wait to make insane car chases with Franklin. Go Matrix style with Michael and go completely rampage mode with Trevor. There is just no way I`m not going to enjoy special abilities.

Meh, I could take it or leave it as far as the special abilities. I'm just hoping it doesn't trivialize content. I'm having flashbacks of RDR shootouts that were borderline impossible without Dead Eye (is that what it was called?) but I use the ability and kill 20 people in under a second with no effort. Don't want the same kind of thing with Michael in GTA V. Similar issue if Franklin's driving ability turns me into Mario Andretti.

I know, I know, I can just not use them. But I'm anticipating situations (during missions) where the game expects you to in order to succeed.

Well, read the previews again. Focus on the parts about the setting. Notice how they say how the surrounding environment has been turned up to 11? Basically, in the morning, people will be up and doing yard work and getting mail, while the streets of that suburb will be deserted at night. We'll have pedestrians that react to more things, we'll have more random events and chaos that can happen completely without your involvement. I think we're good on realism. Especially this kind of realism. I like this kind of realism, where the setting is as immersive as the matrix, but the protagonist can fit 12 weapons in his pants and slow down time to kill enemies.

I think V will still be pretty awesome, super powers or not.

My BIG concern is that these will be in multiplayer, and something like that IMO will honestly ruin the free roam online, imagine chasing someone for them to start slowing down time.

NO THANKS.

It cannot possibly be online, how could he slow down but you be the same speed? In his screen you are a few metres away in a car, on yours you would have ran him over already.

Use Some goddamn thought before you post.
