shows the scale of the city. Its a bit weird though. this small circle has alot of houses in it and looks pretty small on the map. but then there are even less "blocks" than in GTA4

Wow, thanks a lot for posting this. When you look at the map, LS seems to be about the size of it in SA, but this shows otherwise. Was scared for a minute, there mercie_blink.gif

If anyone is complaining about the size of the map. Look at this:

Shows just how big this map could be. If you try imagine 3.5x red dead redemption maps fitting inside that you will know this map is absolutely f*cking huge.

Now stop complaining.

were da fuk did yuu get this?? answer me bitchblood

Yeah I'm hyped. This map is huge. Look how zoomed out it has to get to show all of it. Once we zoom in to it in a regular view it's going to be massive. It's easily 5x bigger than GTA:SA Los Santos. And that's without the area to the north and south as well as minus the airport, which we know is MASSIVE. So it's technically bigger than LC if you added the LS airport. And that's JUST what we can see.

You guys worrying are nuts. If you I included Blaine County, the Alamo Sea, under water, forests and open desert areas this game is gigantic. I'm excited about exploring that dam. Didn't they say we could hike and raft??

In the mapping thread.

Also remember that there's going to be alot more interiors then in GTA 4, plus the fact that they will be more detailed and unique.

Did R* confirm this? Not being an asshole I'm genuinely curious.

I'd throw a damn party if it's true.

I don't think it has been confirmed officially but there are definitely more interiors. Game Informer says you will see people in buildings going about their life so surely you must be able to jump in and shoot them.

I don't know how to do a proper overlay in photoshop. I matched up the sizes going by width of road. It seems accurate to me but I'm sure someone will take exception to my estimation.

This scaling of San Andreas is highly off in comparison to the map. SA is absolutely not that big.

Completely agree.

Alright, after much painstaking work, here's my final version. LC has been compressed and the scale between the two maps has been corrected by comparing the size of the aircraft runway:

LC seems bigger than LS. It's close.

Nice work

If the airport area in V extends forward a bit more, then the two will be roughly equal. So far, LC is about 15% larger.

Even though we can only see the city and part of hills on the blueprint map, we can make a very good estimate of the total map size because we know the size of the blueprint map.

21.5 x 26.75.

The map is roughly 25% larger top to bottom than it is left to right.

You can see square grids on the blueprint. These are going to be either 1 sq km or 1 sq m.

It seems there are ~7 grid squares from left to right.

From the pier near "malibu" in the west to the small island in the east there are 5 grid squares.

Either side of these is either 1 more grid square or just under 1 grid square.

Assume there are 7, this means there are ~8.75 (~25% more) grid squares from top to bottom.

I think the grid squares are 3 inches by 3 inches.

7 x 3 = 21 and 8.75 x 3 = 26.25. This gives a 0.5 remainder for both.

The squares might well be a random 2.8646 inches squared I know, but assume they are exactly 3 x 3 for now.

More importantly though is we know that the entire blueprint map is ~7 x ~8.75 and this gives 61.25 (sq km or sq miles).

Obviously it is not going to be 61.25 sq miles, it is 61.25 sq km which converts to 23.6 sq miles.

So I estimate the entire blueprint map to be 23.6 sq miles.

If you look at one of the grid squares and wonder could it be 1 km x 1 km and you think it is actually smaller, then this makes the map smaller and just by looking at the grid squares you can clearly see they are not larger then 1 km x 1 km.

I promise you all that the map size is significantly smaller than we are all expecting and hoping for.

They said "if you include interiors and underwater" for a reason.

People should really not get there hopes up because if you draw a square around the actual playing area of GTA V land, it will be not much bigger than GTA San Andreas.

Once the game is released feel free to say I am full of BS if I am wrong, but sadly I am not

Why is everyone ignoring the obvious piece that continues at the bottom? Those roads don't just go into the ocean for Christ's sake. suicidal.gif

Because we have seen many screenshots that show us that there is just ocean south of the docks. That highway/fwy most likely curves West or East.

Are you really using the blueprint map? I'm fairly sure the map isn't limited to the corners of the rectangle.

Just look at it. There's a lot of area below the city...and I mean a lot, that's probably going to be filled with water.

Secondly, look to the right. The blue area to the right of the checkered parts appears to be land.

The key sentence in my post was

"So I estimate the entire blueprint map to be 23.6 sq miles."

Basically the total area of the blueprint is a MAXIMUM of 23.6 sq miles.

To estimate the actual map size you have to chop off all the surrounding ocean areas.

Is that seriously how big they could make the city? I'm disappointed in that. I thought they'd at least make it bigger than Los Santos in GTA SA. It's weird because the city looks fairly big in screenshots like this.

If you think THIS is smaller than "just" los santos from the ps2 u might be the dumbest person ive ever came across i bet u can fit 3 or 4 ps2 los santos' in this new los santos, then u have the whole north east side of the map that we cant even see along with the country side and ocean, the city by itself is said to be as big as liberty city in gta4 which is already bigger than just the ps2 los santos...
