There's very little countryside in this map, so I doubt that this is in fact legit.

Los Santos looks just as big as Liberty City

and then we still have about 7 times more countryside

Of course there is something on the other side of the mountains, this is just part of the huge map, the freeway runs through it.

Cool down it's not the FULL map. And it could probably be an upper part of LS which isn't visible from the parts that aren't revealed. Or los santos looks smaller due to scaling .

We don't even know the scale though, so we can't judge anything just yet. Blaine County must be massive compared to Los Santos and CVG said along the lines that Los Santos only took up about 1/4 of the map that they saw.

 

We can't say much but from what I've seen from looking at this map, it looks just as big as Liberty City. I just need to find where Grove Street is.

To put things in perspective - those tiny white dots in the vinewood hills are mansions. So think if how tiny your character will be next to one. And then think about this - even if its the same size as LC or a little smaller it doesnt mean its the same exact city. Its an entirely new city to explore!!!!

After doing a very quick and dirty resizing, I get something like this:

Lol you doubters are idiots, no offence. If you look at gorgeprofondegta4's attempt to place the portions of los Santos onto a template of the blueprint, the map looks absolutely huge. Looking back to [DRuG]Smallo's comparison of both maps, what we have is already roughly the size of liberty city. Not to mention the parts of los Santos that are missing from the blueprint. Before you judge the city, think about perspective please.

u know what also could be the case... that on the side they showed in the preview is only the los santos part of the map, and that on the back side they have an overview of the whole map. just a guess though. they do that sh*t in reallife too. but like i said its just a guess.

It does look small on the map but so does England. You cant really judge the sense of scale by a map.

Let's put things into perspective here for a second. Okay, I am a bit disappointed with the size of LS as well. However, the map may not determine the how big it'll actually seem. The map in Midnight Club: Los Angeles for example.

 

 

Although it looks fairly small, it was (in-game) a fair-sized map with plenty of space to take part in high-speed races. It does take a good 3-5 minutes to drive from one end to the other depending on what car you're in. Los Santos in GTA V looks about the same size on the map and does seem to have expansive space judging by screenshots.
