Kifflom112
Freeways Freeways are the fastest sources of travel among players who like to get around, but also like to do it realistically instead of just driving across town on smaller roads at ridiculous speeds. One of my main gripes in IV were the freeways. You were often unable to get around without your car getting dinged up. If that wasn't a problem for you, slow drivers definitely was, or narrow freeways, or how useless some of the freeways were. We know that in Grand Theft Auto V you will get authentic freeways with 8 lanes and they will most likely come with no stoplights. But the question is, will they function properly this time around? In IV, you ran into all kinds of problems. There were always pileups, people cut you off, the list just goes on. The very design of the freeways was kind of odd as well. There are a few things that I want improved: - Traffic Speed & Intelligence: I think highways are virtually useless if you're not able to get around at quicker speeds. The traffic needs to move faster, but also smarter. Whether I'm just traveling, in a rush, or moving at an average speed, I shouldn't have to worry about that idiot in front of cruising at 35 miles an hour. Nobody drives like the on a packed Los Angeles freeway. In addition, Rockstar needs to make sure their programming is up to par. If someone in front of me is trying to merge into my lane, I need a signal. They should just sharply turn into my lane without my knowledge. And if I'm speeding people should move out of the way or refrain from crossing into my lane. Leaving these improvements out is somewhat unacceptable. - Traffic Density: Los Angeles is notorious for it's packed freeways. With that being the case, I wouldn't mind if Los Santos' freeways were packed as well. I'm not saying that every car should be on top of each other during rush hour, but just make the freeways feel busy and lively. They should make it feel like people have a place to go. Rush hour should be noticeable when you're on the freeway. At midnight, there shouldn't be too many cars on the freeway, maybe a few more rigs should be traveling around transporting goods. - Overall Design: Let's be honest. The freeways were kind of poorly designed throughout Liberty City. You had on and off-ramps coming out of nowhere and I just couldn't take the freeway designs seriously. They felt too artificial and unsophisticated. In Los Santos, you should know where an exit is coming via traffic signs or the long on/off ramps. There shouldn't be those short ass ramps because they cause issues. Cruising the Plumber's Skyway, I noticed there were a lot of accidents around that area where an access road from Berchem headed onto the freeway. Why did those accidents happen? Because the ramps were too short and the drivers just randomly merged into the main lanes without knowing that there is oncoming traffic. The design needs to be better, at least for me. With some of these improvements, the freeways would look better and function better if you're the type who likes to cruise around like a civilian. - Being useful: I noticed that some of Liberty City's freeways were just for show. Take the Plumber's Skyway for example: When you head south, pass the Tudor/Actor exit, there is approximately 3 miles of freeway left, but you only get two exits. One leads to Actor Industrial Park, the other leads to that area near the Sprunk Factory. It's not very useful. In Los Santos, I'd like it if highways actually made it easier to get to places. Basically, all I want is more exits and on ramps. Make it easier to get off and/or on the freeway. - Detail: This is the less relevant improvement but I wouldn't mind if it was implemented. I'd like it if the freeways in Los Santos looked more distinctive from each other. What if some were concrete, some were just tar, and some were battered looking freeways with graffiti and deterioration? It would be cool. Any other opinions; what do you want improved regarding the highways in V? Tl;dr: I want freeways to be improved in every way, what do you want? Edit: If you're going to come in here and make tl;dr posts you can f*ck off. Edited May 23, 2013 by Kifflom112

OGpurp
I want the traffic to be like san andreas. If it's at a stop, nonstop accidents will happen and people will exit their cars with shovels.
Nameless Foot Soldier
As one who likes to drive normally a lot of the time, I too felt the issues with the Freeways and agree with this bit of a touch up. It would also help getting around when I feel like speeding from one place to another around the sprawl of Los Santos.
RedDragonsBOOM
Well Im really familiar with the Southern California freeway system as I drive on it practically everyday. In game I am going to be driving the most and cant wait to see the locations I pass by all the time in game. So stoked for every single thing in this game. Awesome post btw tl;dr jp Edited May 23, 2013 by RedDragonsBOOM
LTA1992
Well, I have to say, IV's Plumbers Skyway was actually true to life with the Pulaski Skyway, also known as the 1/9. This highway, like the former Miller Highway in Manhattan and Boston's Central Artery, were built before the Interstate System came into existence therefore ramps that began as their own seperate lanes aren't really present. I wouldn't even call the IV "Expressway" system Expressways.
gtaman533
Maybe they'll have real traffic that they could broadcast over radio stations so you would know when do use the highway or not. It is certainly possible considering the Dynamic State Systems implemented in the game giving every NPC in the game a life and as they go about their business. Traffic reports on the radio would be so awesome. I really hope traffic overall is improved. For instance, it would be nice if days of the week had an effect on the flow of traffic as well. It would also be cool if traffic was heavier around certain places downtown, like the event center. Trying to get out of the Sprint Center in Kansas City is a damn nightmare. I'd hate to be stuck in traffic trying to get out of the Staples Center! Like in the movie Drive, if you were in a police chase, you could head towards the event center and blend in with cars leaving or jump out and and disappear in the crowd to evade the police! Traffic could also be a factor in determining which routes to take before and after heists and such.
RichyB
I agree, I hope it's realistic. Like if there's an accident on the freeway police should close it down and make a diversion route.
Kiffster
I just hope the freeways in V will actually go to a different city instead of just circling around the city of Los Santos or the map like IV's highways. Like the freeway in Alderney that starts and ends not too far away from each other. I have a feeling there may be at least one other city, and that it's connected to Los Santos by freeways. The map is just too big for just one city. Also, I think the ai on the freeways will be improved. Better and smarter. It will probably not be perfect, but I think it will better than before. Maybe faster cars overtaking slow ones, slower drivers during storms, no more crashing into each other, fast lane, slow lane, rush hour traffic (although I already had that in IV. Freeways in my game were pretty busy, bumper to bumper, with the car density slider set to 100). Plus, I read somewhere that there will be traffic reports on radio, telling you where there are lots of traffic and maybe even accidents... Im not sure about another big city, but 3 - 4 large towns will be in there. And im sure people (via screenshots) have shown a freeway which leads out of the city and out into the countryside. Also one that runs alongside one of the coastlines. As for traffic it just needs to be more intelligent like indicating when switching lanes and more of a bulid up around major junctions. Also would love to be able to do 18 wheeler driving jobs as a side thing.
