It has unfortunately now been confirmed that the Xbox One will not be backwards compatible, either with the Xbox 360 or the original Xbox. Xbox Live Vice President Marc Whitten elaborated on the situation, saying, "The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn't really work from that perspective." This is a similar situation to what the PS4 is running into, where it is unable to play PS3 games due to the switch to an x86 CPU rather than relying on the last generation's PowerPC architecture. Whitten also confirmed that, as of now, Microsoft has no plans to make this content available via streaming or download. "Microsoft does, however, plan to keep selling the Xbox 360 alongside the new console for the foreseeable future," Whitten said. All they really care about is how you can talk to it instead of just using the damn controller, and how you can talk to other Xbox One owners. That's another thing: Xbox One? That's the best they could do? They should have used a random Latin word, that would have made it sound epic. Like Xbox Ustilo, now that sounds cool. Consoles seem to be overall entertainment systems now (Netflix, Movies on the hard drive, Gaming, Music). Google and Apple should get in on this business.
