Drug DEALING should absolutely be in GTA V, I'll be surprised if it isn't.

Drug TAKING by the protagonists should never be in a GTA game. (except for the adrenaline pill but even that got phased out)

GTA has always had a clear anti-drug message. Vice City is the best example. Vice City is essentially just Scarface except the protagonist doesn't become addicted to his own product and therefore actually manages to survive the final gunfight and have a happy ending.

San Andreas is the other good example. CJ is surrounded by people who do drugs but he adamantly asserts that he "Doesn't get down with that sh*t" and as a result, ends up being one of the more competent characters and actually survives the game as a result. This also adds comedic potential as CJ is at times intoxicated inadvertently by other people's drugs (such as when he burns The Truth's cannabis farm). I believe Niko in GTA 4 had a similar problem with Lil Jacob smoking weed in the car whilst traveling with him.

Taking and the effects of drugs?  Hell No!  Getting drunk was good for a 30 second laugh but this is too far.  If you make them have cool effects that serve the gameplay (temporary invincibility, super speed/strength, etc.) then you're glorifying drug abuse.  Rockstar has grown up and is too smart to go there.  On the other side of things, if you make them hinder the player even for a small amount of time like getting drunk, then its a pointless distraction that's ultimately unnecessary.

I always picture posts like this said in a snooty british accent and it makes me laugh.

Tattoos and haircuts are also "a pointless distraction that's ultimately unnecessary." So is tennis. And golf. It's the little things that make the game so fun.

Tattoos, haircuts, tennis and yoga aren't controversy for controversy's sake. Taking drugs would add nothing to the gameplay but a visual effect for a few seconds. Besides, if the characters can even interact with drugs in anyway, a real criminal mastermind with his eye making money isn't going to use the sh*t. It's one thing to express as part of his character that Trevor has drug problem by showing snorting coke or passed in with needles sticking out of him or anything else they imagine. You want to establish Trevor's habits? Sure. I'm all for that. Having the player interact with it whether a full blown mini-game or just a button simple button press is just silly.

I will make a point though, that I didn't mind it in Max Payne because he simply popped pills to top off his adrenaline. They never said what type of pills and they never glorified the sensation of it. So if Trevor simply pops some junk and refills the rage? Great! Cheesy psychedelic effects can go away. I just believe it needs to serve the gameplay without glorifying it. That's all. Again, trafficking would be cool because that's money. Hell, even getting access to rage pills for adrenaline because your business is booming would be cool. I'm just tried of games adding cheesy effects for the hell of it.

You strike me as the type of person who doesn't take recreational drugs.

One doesn't do drugs for controversy's sake, one does them because they're fun. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif They're also a part of the culture. They wouldn't just be adding them for controversy's sake,

Especially in America the Where Cali is a major place for Marijuana and 52% of the Country feel it should be legal. Its only a short time before Weed is legal here in the States

If they can do it in the Nintendo DS version then we better get it in 5 cuz its a great addition to be able to sell drugs m they did it very well on the DS.

Taking drugs ? No.

Not really interested in the protagonist taking drugs. I cannot really what benefits it would bring to the gameplay apart from slow things down or give hazy, blurry vision, and that's not really exciting or interesting. Besides we had this in Vice City before.

Selling drugs ? YES. I want some drug-dealing activities, definitely. I'm very much hoping for a drug business mini-game.

I can do without drugs too, but I'll disagree with you that there's no use for, say, getting drunk in the game IF we could buy boos, carry with, and consume at will wherever, then there's potential fun to be had getting 'drunk' and then trying to pull off crazy stunts, like riding a bicycle down a mountain, or landing an airplane... but I liked the negative consequences in IV of getting too wasted and waking up on one of the small islands with no cash (if I recall)... it was a bit creepy, and I didn't do more than once or maybe twice.

but simulated drunkenness could be a lot of fun just experimenting in the map after the story has been played out, IMO.

It would be cool. But the protags, using them wont be a good idea cause the game will have many controversies and Adults only raiting which will be a probelm for Rockstar as before with the hot coffe from SA and the violence of Manhunt so I highly doubt. Howerver it is highly possibly that there will be a drug delivery minigame or we may see Trevor using drugs in a cutscene or being affected by them.
