Jokunen
I played tbogt a few weeks ago and noticed one thing that bothered me, the whole blips thing. I thought how great would it be if there would be a freeroam mode (exatctly like the singleplayer gameplay only without Trevor, Frankilin and Micheal and missions ofc). There would be no way of telling who is a NPC and who is a player. Atleast for me it would bring a lot of fun in to the game. I know there are blips close and blips far, but I would want to have no way of telling whatsoever who's a player and who's not. Of course when you kill a player it would show the kill feed normally but nothing else. What do you think ? I know it's too late to make changes to the game itsef probably, but I hope it can be atleast modded or something when it's released on PC. Jokunen
Seriously ? I searched and I searched but there was nothing. I mean no mater how far or how close you're you won't show up. And you don't have you nameplate shown. Is there really that kind of option ? Sorry but I couldn't find it anywhere.

MrSpooge
When you create a game you can disable the nametags among other options like peds, police, etc.. You'd think it would be a good idea but it was near impossible to get a decent kill count because of how big and wide the map was, pretty sure it had a timed blip option that seemed to work well but the maps needed to be confined to a single area and they never were
LennonNL
Yeah but, correct me if I'm wrong, even if you turned blips off near and far, if you pointed your gun at a player it came up with his name above his head? Also, when you shot a blip still came up?

You can turn the blips off on the minimap, and you can turn gamertags off, but there is always a blip floating above another player's head - which isn't condusive to blending in. Now that you mention it.. yeah, there is always that one dot (or blip as you call it) above the heads. You only can disable the name but not this. So technically you always can distinguish actual players and NPCs. No chance to disable it I guess. Except maybe on IV:MP (unofficial MP mod on PC). StepY0gameUP
Me and my buddies use to play like this. We actually roleplay(no Homo lol) where we'll call one another up act as if we was meeting up to rob something or go to work. And what we did as far as option was take off blips or just added far blips not close. So atleast in the case you knew if they were on another island. And we kept it on friendly fire, free aim. So there wasn't any lock on or anyway to tell. But it was cool to call up and be like hey meet me at time square I just got off work from burger shot. Idk what the face is for but basically your wrong when u shot at somebody the blips didn't come on and nor did u have to play lock on. Blips went completely away when up close. Now if your talking about that dot above the head Idk.
Guest
I agree man. You can turn them off on the mini map but there is still a dot over the character's heads so you can still tell a player from a NPC. I think it would be cool if you could turn the dot off too. Then we could walk normal, fake like a NPC to blend in and sneak up on ppl.
streetx1xracer
when i think about it, it would be really interesting experience. For example: youre in downtown los santos walking and absorbing the environment, and suddenly you notice something unexpected. Someone is trying to hijack a car and all the npc stop and watch. And you stop walking and start observing the event..... Youll actually feel like youre part of the actual game and not a unique player.
RichyB
GTA IV free roam was a bit of a headache because half the time cars wouldn't spawn. No good.
Nero1024
A big problem w/ MP for me was the doors falling off of the cars while driving for some inexplicable reason. Ruined the immersion.
CryptReaperDorian
"On foot" competitive multiplayer modes would be sooooo much better if enemy blips/tags were disabled. It severely dumbed down modes like TDM in GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3 since there would always be a huge "SHOOT AT THIS GUY!" symbol above every enemy's head. Vex_Doppel
I had a thread like this and it brought up the drop in and drop out of multiplayer feature. Where your MP character is on the same character select wheel as the 3 guys. Someone said he thinks that your MP character will be going on about his day just like the story characters. When you choose him the same google map view comes into play. I've also liked the idea of having anonymous players. The only real way to do it though is have a vicinity connection established. 15 or so randoms all join the server based on your location on the map. If they go too far away they leave your server and an open spot will become available for someone else nearbye to join.
Honest Bill
blips totally ruin the multilayer modes like gang shooutout etc. They shoud at least remove them from 'hardcore' matches. I'd bet that most 'hardcore' players would choose to have them off if they had a choice. Names and blips above people's heads just ruin any chance of tactics. stealth is completely out the window. It's hard enough to be stealthy in 3rd person as it is, but to have giant floating things above player's heads just removes all chance. Radars in MP modes should also be removed in my opinion they are a hindrance to good gameplay.

It doesn't hurt to let the players choose what they want. If the MP is actually fun, there will be plenty of players for each type of play-style. I do believe Red Dead Redemption might have dedicated servers though (no host, which in return gives better game stability). However, no host generally means no setting customization. That can be "fixed" by rentable servers (like in Battlefield 3), but not many people would be keen on paying for more variety or the admin abuse that might be associated with it. Yeah i see your point. However RDR had two 'settings' choices, which were pretty much exactly the same. I think the only real difference was the free aim. They might have at least tailored the hardcore mode to be more consistent with that which one might expect from 'hardcore' settings, such as is found in other shooter games. ie no minimap, less health etc. Also, i can't honestly say that i found RDR's stability or performance much better than IV's. It was just as ropy. with people teleporting all over the place and hits not registering etc.
