Hvitdverg
“We have no games in development for the Wii U currently,” EA representative Jeff Brown “Nintendo platforms have always been very poor revenue-wise for third parties,” he continued. “Only Mario and Zelda make money.” Some games Nintendo plan on showing in JUNE: Extremly low sales since the console launched back in November, almost no games, and Third Party developers are starting to jump of the Nintendo hype train. I strongly believe this will be Nintendo's last Home Entertainment system console (TV-Console). They don't stand a chance, against the PS3/360 at this point. And Will certainly not stand a chance against the PS4 and XBOX. Discuss Edited May 20, 2013 by Hvitdverg
Mista J
I think their family oriented games are their downfall, Mario is fun and all but kids today like violence, kids have evolved and they don't realize it. Plus I'd imagine their weird controllers aren't too dev friendly compared to the PS3/360 controls.
Saliva
Its about time. They've been pushing mario and zelda for almost 30 years.
iNero
They even canceled the E3 Press. That shows that they dont have much which could bring them up again
Bobbin100
Nintendo would be better off by being a software company, selling their games to Microsoft/Sony
Tchuck
Nintendo would be better off by being a software company, selling their games to Microsoft/Sony Yes, because we all know how much money they lost in the last generation, not to mention their handheld stuff. No, Nintendo won't stop making consoles. They want control, and they'll have control. People will still buy their platforms to play the exclusive mario games et al. @Erebos: Kids have always liked violence, it's not something new. Young kids will still play Nintendo stuff though, and parents, a large portion of whom grew up with Nintendo, will also buy them Nintendo, specially because the other platforms are known for violence. Besides, Nintendo games are damn fun. Anyway, if they lived through the GameCube, who had some pretty quality titles, they will live through this as well. If anything, they are signalling a move into something different, unlike Microsoft and Sony which are always bringing in pretty much more of the same. Nintendo will still make "home entertainment consoles", however the definition of what a "home entertainment console" is will definitely change, and Nintendo is at least experimenting with new things. In the end, I'd bet on them coming out on top.
CryptReaperDorian
Honestly, I want to still see Nintendo going strong with the handheld market. Sure, the technology behind something like the Nintendo DS isn't as good as the PSP (probably the same with the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita), but most people generally looking for something fun and addictive rather than something that "looks good" when it comes to handheld gaming. For instance, some people still swear behind games like Pokemon Yellow or ported Super Mario titles even though there's handheld games out there that are far, far technologically superior. Perhaps the biggest threat to Nintendo and Sony with the handheld market though is Apple and a few other companies with their tablets and smartphones. Exactly. They've earned more than enough cash with the Wii to sustain themselves as a console releasing company. Plus, everybody is hating on the WII U but that's because it's compeition has been released yet. Just look at all the hate towards Xbox's new system already. Nintendo has a couple billion dollars in cash reserves. They aren't going anywhere. Not to mention that no killer game has been released for the WiiU. When the next Mario Kart/Zelda/SSBM or whatever releases, they'll be sure to move a couple million consoles, get more traction etc. This is also forgetting that they did sell 3.5m consoles. That's a lot, and pretty in line with what the Xbox 360 sold in the same period. But since it was nearly 10 years ago, people forget, they seem to think the current gen stuff was a success and red hot money making from the start, which is completely unreal. All Nintendo needs to get the WiiU to really takeoff is a new killer game. And that's most certainly coming soon.
