Vex_Doppel
Ok, so this chick is reading from gtav.net. At 16:08 she talks about an option to drop play in/out of Multiplayer by pressing down on the D-pad. Now I got really excited when I heard this cause people randomly joining your world would be sweet. (I have some other ideas what I think it is but..) I can't seem to find it anywhere on this site. I continued to ask her about it. She said its under General the 5th bullet down. Yeah, totally not there. So was the info there at one time? Has anyone else read about this? zainzombie
Idk if it was listed on GtaV.net but yea it is true, most of the previewers said that dpad will be used for character selection wheel and pressing down will take you to the multiplayer. Idk if it has been confirmed, but I have heard/read that.
groveSTREETfamily4LIFE
I heard something like you can drop in and out of multiplayer by pressing down on the d-pad. Don't know what they mean though. I remember someone saying it wasn't co-op though.
Vex_Doppel
Ok, so I read that you choose between Micheal, Franklyn, trevor and your multiplayer character. So I'm guessing when you select the MP character that's what the drop in/out functionality is. If I understood you correctly. I guess I'm just hoping you stay in your world and nothing changes, just won't be able to access the campaign but you can still go and do everything you normally would. I was always bummed in Red Dead when I couldn't ride the train in MP, or play poker without DLC.
nigelhere9901
You mean like in Borderlands 2? I sure hope this isn't implemented.

Honestly, I havn't played Borderlands 2 but why wouldn't you like it implemented. I guess I'm not seeing the down side.
wwinterj
Chances are when you drop into multiplayer it'll take you into a free roam "lobby" like Red Dead Redemption and you take it from there as you did in that game. Not that random people can just join your single player game whenever. I think the idea is to eliminate loading screens.

They said they're making a new ambitious open world multiplayer. So I was thinking it wouldn't be the same in that aspect. Oh well, just have to wait and see. Details are coming soon hopefully. CryptReaperDorian
R* completely shot down the ability to play the campaign with friends (as in online co-op with single-player assets and characters) with the first set of previews. I'm as excited about GTA V as anybody else, but R* shot themselves in the foot there. That would have been one of the best features to be added in the game. MrSpooge
Possible as a selectable option, I quite liked it in SR3.

Well, I can understand what Rockstar is trying to accompilish. They want each character to have their own story and all 3 characters can't play the entire campaign with out interfereing in each others story. As long as they devote plenty of coop to multiplayer I'm cool with it. This ain't Saints Row you know.
RedDragonsBOOM
I think what happens when you select your MP character is that it goes into the switching animation that it does when you select like Michael or Franklin or Trevor except when it pushes out of those characters and loads your MP character it also loads an MP lobby world overlaying the single player world you just loaded from. GlitzyTomb
That would be pretty damn nifty. Nice quick load in. I hope they improve on the Avatar appearance options and make them easier to unlock though. Switched Gamertags and couldn't be bothered to reach Rank 10 again. Played countless hours in Free Roam but not much appetite for DM and no one is ever Racing

Thats actually what Im hoping for more than anything, something that combines your earnings on MP and SP into something that counts in both sides of the game as well as bring your own character into the V storyline a bit. It would be really awesome.
GlitzyTomb
I think there's a pretty decent chance they will move around a bit... If just to avoid having people always quit Multiplayer when they are next to a Helicopter/Tank/Jet spawn point so that when they pick it up they're immediately super powerful. *Just wanted to add in, Great Idea RedDragonsBOOM. That way if someone completely the Storyline first they could perhaps use some of that Final Job paycheck to unlock some stuff for MP...or if they raked in the dough in MP they could make the SP a little bit easier by buying up some Bullet Proof Armor or a special gun or something* Edited May 20, 2013 by GlitzyTomb

As long as they devote plenty of coop to multiplayer I'm cool with it. This ain't Saints Row you know. I do recall there being an offline co-op mode for GTA SA on the PS2 (probably the Xbox too, not on the PC though), but that wasn't too good. As for Saints Row, you're right that GTA isn't SR and vice-versa. However, I know a lot people praised that feature in SR games, and it's one of that game's features that I can most definitely see being great for a GTA game with multiple protagonists. These days, I think R* could do a better job than Volition with that. For starters (talking about improvements here), it'd be based on friend invites rather than randoms, and nobody should be able to pause the game on each other. As for missions, the only missions I could see being accessible (via mission replay) would be the missions requiring all three protagonists that have been completed on the leader's/host's game file. Other issues such as your friends trashing stored vehicles, spending your money, wasting your ammo, getting killed, raising the character skills too much, and so on can be easily fixed by the game not saving "progress" on that file aside from those associated with the co-op and Social Club stats (like high scores in the missions and activities). In my opinion, the general multiplayer Free Mode isn't that good of an alternative. When you start having 16+ players in a server (compared to the three maximum in my dream "single-player co-op"), you have to make "compromises". This includes things like the dumbing down of AI, worse game stability, a dead(er) city, removed single-player features, removed single-player activities, possible isolating of interiors that are in the single-player, and overall just less "character" that you'd get from the three protagonists. Besides, I do have two close friends that will most definitely be getting GTA V.
Vex_Doppel
The coop mode for SA was extremely limited. No split screen. People praise SR for coop but I don't hear alot of praise for character/story depth or multiplayer. To me SR is a thing of the past. Something GTA has matured past. I really want coop too, I'd rather have a whole side story set aside just for coop. Kinda lke TLAD/BOGT where we see glimpses of characters in the campaign and then you have a smaller coop campaign for them. Also the fact that there's bullet time would make it annoying for the other players playing. Can't slow stuff down without everyone else slowing down too. GTAIV's free roam wasn't that great no, but Red Dead's was pretty sweet and I think they'll go above and beyond that.
