The Songs.

After listening to each of the songs in the three character trailers, I've got even more hope going for the radio stations. As each song tells a very specific tale about the person in the trailer(maybe not Trevor, but I'll get to that).

 

Michael's song is Radio Gaga by Queen. It's all about having had your time in the sun, but it not being the best you've had. Meaning that the greatest days of your life have yet to be lived. This speaks to Michael's inability to accept his current role, watching the days pass doing the same things over and over again. ( You had the time, you had the power, you've yet to have your finest hour )

 

Franklin's song is all about doing something even though others don't like it. This speaks to the idea that while all of his friends think he just stick to the streets, eventually they'll see that he's done something much greater, and in turn, the world(in this case identified by "the hood")will come to love it.

 

Now as far as Trevor's song goes, I was really familiar with it as having heard it many times before, unlike the queen song, which I had heard once or twice but never really dug it. In the song, Waylon Jennings talks about how country music has done the same thing for years, and how it's time for a change. I first thought this meant that Trevor had to change. But seeing footage and reading about what he does, he isn't really changing. he's just sort of broadening his horizons. Making larger strokes in place of smaller ones on the canvas that is his criminal activity. So it's for this reason that I believe this song is more about the game as a whole rather than simply Trevor. It's about changing things that have been done far too many time. Gone are the days of a simple protag getting a gun and building an empire. And here come the days of three men, each looking for something more than what they have, going to get it as a team. The lyrics even state "it's been the same way for years...we need to change."

 

Sorry if it's TL, and you DR, but I think R* are pretty damn spot on with their music selections in these trailers, and I can't wait to see what they've put in the actual game.

Vice City had a real good soundtrack. GTA III is the best for me though because of MSX FM.

As for the OP, that's a pretty good analysis, the songs do fit in real well.

Also, Trailer 2 Skeletons. The song was mostly related to Michael, hiding his skeletons in his closet (from one side, the head of a disfunctional family, on the other, a succesfull criminal, who is also part of the witness protection program).
