Gamesmaster Magazine Info

GTA Master Blaster

So i got my latest issue of Gamesmaster. Brilliant article with the following info.

FRANKLIN

"The game world is and island hemmed in by an ocean beyond the city and a massive stretch of water - the Alamo Sea"

"To the west of the island is a military base"

"onscreen, there's an altimeter with three bars in the corner: green: health, blue: body armour and yellow: 'Special Ability'"

Cargo Plane spotted taking off from the military base.

Mountain Lions seen scuttering for cover in the hillsides of Mount Josiah

"We can see two people fishing on it's banks, a Winnebago parked next to them"

TREVOR

Trevor's first words when waking up on the beach next to the dead member's of the Lost were "Uurrrrghhh, Last One Standing Again"

"Once we climb aboard a nearby Zodiac - a small special forces-style boat - things get tastier"

"Finally a couple of minutes later, Trevor reaches a point off the coast where he drops anchor. Tucked away in the Zodiac is scuba gear. Not all boats will come equipped with gear, but the Zodiac's always will"

MICHAEL

"Emerging from the Von Crastenburg Hotel, Michael is the total antithesis of Trevor: smartly dressed, clean cut, moneyed.

"As Michael winds his way towards a four-way junction, there are hundreds of businesses and stores, in all directions. Right away we zero in on, Up N Atom, Tsunami, the Doppler Cinema and billboards for Sprunk, but there are tons more."

"After stopping to listen to Pamela Drake, a forgotten film actress, who begins babbling about her years as a Vinewood mega-star we continue our walking tours and head into Vinewood Boulevard"

Completing the 'stranger' mission (Up and coming movie star Lacey Jones) rewarded them with $150.

SWITCHING CHARACTERS

"The transition between characters is slick: you ascend into the skies, Google maps-style, the screen fills with static (although you can still see the outline of your location) and then you zoom across the city, zeroingin on the character of your choosing. the closer geographically, Franklin, Trevor and Michael are to one another, the quicker the transition"

CHARACTER DEATH INFO

Q: What happens if one of the main characters die?

A: If you're playing as Michael and Michael dies, the game doesn't just switch to on of the two remaining 'alive' characters - it resets to the last checkpoint. Also, while the other two characters can look after themselves when you're not controlling them, you'll still have to keep an eye on them: they can die too, if they take too much damage - and, they do, the game will once again reset to the last checkpoint.

So that's the jist of what I pulled hope it helps iron out so 'unclear' info for people. Cheers biggrin.gif

Snake Without a Tongue

"We can see two people fishing on it's banks, a Winnebago parked next to them"

The Winnebago is news to me. I was picturing a simple NPC thing before, but there might be a community of campers in the hills or something.

These are the tidbits that I believe are new (out of what you've listed), but very minor. Everything else is old.

Cheers for the picture, could possibly upload a shot of all the pages please?

• To the west of the island is a military base.

• Cargo Plane spotted taking off from the military base (we already know of cargo planes though).

• Right away we zero in on, Up N Atom, Tsunami, the Doppler Cinema and billboards for Sprunk, but there are tons more.

[Tsunami is a business that hasn't been mentioned before; mentioned for the benefit of Remi's Business Database.]

Hmmmmm...so you could be casually driving as Michael taking in the view, then suddenly the game resets because npc controlled Trevor did something stupid and got himself killed?

Hope it doesn't happen very often , may potentially be annoying and immersion killing

They're referring to how the mechanic works in-mission. It's been mentioned a few times now, but those that saw the demo seem to always ignore the fact that people are more interested in how the system would work in free-roam (when you die; eg. would you switch characters, or re-spawn?). I assume it's because the play-tester never died when he/she showcased the demo (and the fact I doubt it crossed the journalists' mind to question it).

I haven't heard of the Doppler cinema before. Guess it'll be interactive and even enterable.

The military base located in the west will bring new updated maps in the Mapping thread. Most of the mapmakers thought it was located in the north.

I believe this means during missions.

I wish they gave different previews to different publishers. I've read the same thing so many times now. Some new, but its always the same mission.

No that's only when your doing missions.

Yeah, it's been mentioned before. I double-checked using Remi's Business Database, and sure enough it's listed there (in fact, it's in this screenshot).

Haha wow, totally forgot about that one, thanks.

You are correct, the mention of reset to last checkpoint was reference to normal gameplay in the magazine and nothing to do with mission based character deaths. and now reading it back again makes this seem a possible major problem! As you said casually driving and then re-spawning at last autosave is a bummer dozingoff.gif

Care to clarify? I'd like see the actual portion of writing this is from if that is the case (if there is more to the question than what you posted), so we can judge for ourselves. You have to remember, it was more than likely implied it was mission-based, and not actually written in black & white (and for certain it was, going by the quoted text in your opening post). From memory, another Q & A made the same mistake of mentioning this, without referring to it as it being a mechanic only in missions, even though I think it was implied (but it has been stated in other previews that this is a feature that happens during the missions).

Why anyone would think this would happen in free-roam is beyond me, because it would be absolutely atrocious and pointlessly intrusive game design. You're reading into something that isn't there. Either because it was inconsiderately written, or due to a poor choice of words (if there is more to the question than what is quoted).
