Happyness
I don't get it, I see that most of people hate and don't use multiplayer. (Well ok not most of), what's with people disliking multiplayer in games? Yeah sorry for a new thread.

Happyness
Yes, that's true, tens of millions play. But on this forum I have seen a lot of people bashing, so I was wondering, why do they hate MP.
Gtaghost22
Every single MP I have played was so repetitive and boring beyond belief. (Yes, I actually played with my friends not complete strangers) I respect people that like it, but it just isn't my cup of tea.
Happyness
Right, so there's one input on why someone doesn't like MP. Cheers pal. Also, whenever I watch a max payne 3 multiplayer or rdr multiplayer video people are always like "is the mp dead?"

tuareg
I can't speak for others, but the reason i've grown to hate MP is because a lot of games on consoles use p2p connection wich ultimately makes some games unplayable randomly.

There's more but I'm too lazy to list them all. The list goes on forever. Console multiplayer is awful most of the time, depending on what game you're on. PC multiplayer is actually very fun, especially when you start playing in 2000 player servers on Planetside 2. In MMOs like that you can actually be organised with lots of people. I am part of an Outfit (large group of people) and we had 200+ people on at the same time divided in to 4 platoons of 48 people divided into 4 squads of 12. When there's a hierarchy and organisation, multiplayer is far better than doing anything else. Considering this is only possible on PC, which has a smaller playerbase than consoles, and only an even fewer who want to do this sort of thing, it's not surprising there are large amounts of people that dislike multiplayer. There's hardly enough people in the same game at any time in popular shooters. Even Battlefield 3 on console is inferior to the PC version in terms of player capacity. Sgt. Foley
Oh yeah, I only mentioned Console MP. Sorry about that, I'm too close-minded to talk about PC, I've only played GTA IV MP once on PC, I liked it, but I can imagine it got much worse after that. iNero
The reason why CoD lasts that long although its so damn boring now, is because it has 60 fps and plays so smooth and direct compared to 30 fps. Most people dont know how much better 60 fps feels. BF 3 is an awesome game but it has alot of technical issues on console. Unstaple framerate, alot of aliasing and until the CQ patch on xbox and the AK patch on PS3 it had huge input delay. BF4 WILL beat CoD on Next Gen if they finally have 60 fps/1080p and 64 players om console. And as it seems it will get that ( considering the CTO of EA) MP will grow alot on next gens when we get more games which run as smooth as CoD. Well that was about Shooters. FIFA and stuff is pretty popular though.

Exkabewbikadid
I don't get it, I see that most of people hate and don't use multiplayer. As far as GTAF is concerned, that might hold true a little more here than elsewhere because GTA is one of the largest single player-oriented series out there and offers some of the largest single player campaigns there are. I'm sure a fairly good chunk of our members are more or less casual gamers that don't play many games besides GTA. Personally, I've never been a big fan of most multiplayer games because many of them feel insanely repetitive, not to mention the cheating, griefing and general loud-mouthed asshatery that goes on isn't worth the hassle (also not to mention I'm simply not all that good at competitive mp anyways). And I dare not step into the world of MMOs because I don't want to end up sh*tting in my trashcan and destroying my health. I've always fallen more into the casual gamer crowd and stuck to playing games for the story lines and the diversity in gameplay mechanics and artistic design from one game to another. The Pizza Delivery Guy
I don't use multiplayer. I don't enjoy it. You've got the people on there that train over their entire lives to dominate multiplayer. Then you've got those damn 12 year olds that think they're hot sh*t for playing online. Then developers spend more time on creating and promoting multiplayer instead of single player. What if I don't have any friends? What if that's the reason I play games? That's why I play single player over multiplayer. Then developers stick multiplayer achievements into the game, and eventually shut down servers for good. Where is the logic in that? CryptReaperDorian
Honestly, the multiplayer in most games is sh*t. Even when you get the rare game with a good multiplayer, people are sometimes too competitive (I'm sometimes guilty of this). Really, I wish more developers would put a focus on online co-op modes. They are usually pretty fun, and you generally don't have to get pissed off at other people (unless your teammates are just that bad). It kind of ticks me off that R* isn't implementing online co-op play with the single-player characters and missions (the ones that use all three characters anyways) in GTA V. That would be a whole lot of fun, and one has to admit that feature is actually very fun in Saints Row games (at least in Saints Row 2, the third game is kind of lackluster). RedDragonsBOOM
Multiplayer has stayed the same with too little of innovation for too long, it is a stagnant way to feel games that is made specifically for you to feel familiar and used to it the moment you play most games. That makes it feel like we have been playing the same games for the last 15 years and a lot of us have. For people that want something fresh and new everytime we put in a game and play it on multiplayer comes very few and far between at this point as most things are just point and shoot repeat try to score as much as possible to look badass. There is little thinking or co-operative play these days in games as most are designed for you to just kill as many as possible with little consequence for death or not working together. Besides when 90% of multiplayer is just designed around shooting a gun at a moving object it gets very boring fast. Many people play multiplayer still and they will continue to do so, however I just am very casual when it comes to competitive mp anymore and wont be dedicated until something really catches my eye. I enjoy Co-op as I feel that its more my speed of gaming and my style, I like how it is more of an extension of a game that you can play with a friend and share that experience together. That has me more satisfied than competitive play can for a longer amount of time especially when features can be deep like on Saints Row or DayZ. AceRay
Multiplayer is just too repetitive and boring for me. You shoot at some guy, they shoot you and you die, rince and recycle for hours. Nothing really changes or develops. Sometimes I'm up for some Halo or something but most of the time I'm just wanting to fight some AI who don't act like annoying kids
Mista J
I play because I love competition, so it never gets boring. Especially when it's a 1v1 game.
Mister Pink
I don't like competition except for racing which I'm quite good at. I get annihilated playing deathmatch and except for some moments of magic. I kind of agree with AceRay a little but I think GTA V will have so much variety I'll be playing for ages! Racing games are usually a better multiplayer experience for me. Racing never gets boring for me as I'm abit competitive. FPS multiplayer has always hit low points for me after awhile. I haven't played GTA IV MP in quite some time nor have I played Battlefield 3. I'm just waiting for GTA V mainly.. and I have a feeling I won't do multi on it either.. maybe to see what it's like, then I'm headed out like a fetus. I played BRINK multiplayer for awhile, never really got bored of it, I enjoyed it and the customization of your characters. But not too many games out there peak my interest for multiplayer. LittleBlueTroll
Some games i love online. Games like Call of Duty are mostly bought for the online experience. But what i hate are online achievements / trophies. Some games like Assassins Creed for example, i enjoy playing the story mode and usually try and complete it with every achievement, but i have no interest in playing it online. But that means i cannot ever get all the achievements unless i do something i don't enjoy like playing it online I was there was a way to opted in or out of online achievements. Alick
I have nothing against multiplayer unless it's shoved in to a single player game that just doesn't need it. Dead Space, Tomb Raider, Bioshock 2 are perfect examples. It works the other way to, when they stick single player in games that don't need it, like BF3. But I don't play many competitive multiplayer games anymore, mostly coop.

Tracksuit Hitman
I actually stopped playing multiplayer games on both Playstation Network and XBOX Live because of the high amount of under-age children shouting, swearing and playing music down their microphone which puts me off and makes me play like a 'n00b'. I always knew about muting functions which most games have although it was always effort because of the amount of players connecting, disconnecting or sometimes reconnecting. I actually sold Black Ops II for this reason on the XBOX 360 (although I have it for Playstation 3 now). I've gotten over it and I've become more patient with this sort of behaviour although it does still annoy me at times which varies from game to game. I presume this is why some people show hatred towards multiplayer-based games, too. aka geobst

I just turn chat volume down on my Turtle Beaches now. But before, I set the original headset aside with volume down. Works everytime. Not really any point in having a headset on during CoD anyway. Only time it's good is when you're in a party, and you can just go to party chat. I love MP games. From shooters to MMO's...good times, I've had.
