I at least hope there's an option to change how many weapons you can carry. But I don't really mind, you've always been able to carry around loads of weapons in GTA. If they removed that completely a lot of bitches would be up in arms.

I'm so excited for the weapon wheel in GTA V. It's far superior to the classic GTA weapon system. Much faster and easier to use. You forget it's even there after a while because you start to develop muscle memory and it happens so fast that the wheel just flashes for a split second. With the classic GTA system you had to keep pressing a button to cycle through the weapons and sometimes you'd go right by it then have to go back. With a weapon wheel you learn to associate weapons with movements. Need a pistol? L1 + up. Need a rifle? L1 + down. Need a grenade? L1 + up/right.

Trust me, half the people who hate against the idea of a weapon wheel will come to love it. I was the same when I first played Redemption. Didn't like it at first but a few missions in and It was second nature. It's no longer " sh*t I need a rifle! *press button multiple times* f*ck missed it! I'm getting shot at here, go back! Got it!" But "sh*t I need a rifle! *press button* got it!!"

Just wait and see.

I wonder if they'd include a separate button for a quick grenade throw. That'd be interesting, but hard to imagine how they'd implement it effectively.

I doubt it. All weapons are included in the weapon wheel. Can't mind how many slots Redemption had but apparently GTA V will have 12. Pistol, smg, sniper, knife, fist, shot gun, grenade, LMGs, assault rifles and a couple other things. Plenty of room for all the weapons. Max payne only had 4 slots. Pistol (left hand), pistol (right hand), dual weld and a slot for other weapons (smg/assault/shotgun).

But how is it possible for a person to carry 12 weapons, plus ammunition?

Plus Stempacks and tin cans if you play Fallout. Yet you wouldn't go bitch on the fallout forums on how you can carry 5 shotguns, 12 pistols, a minigun and all kinds of drugs with you, would you?

This is a big deal because it's GTA! Oooo!... You made this topic like you're not gonna play GTA if they don't follow the Max Payne 3 inventory, which if we speak of is actually bogus.

I loved the old Max Payne weapon system. Why? cause i used all the weapons I had to strategise my way around the mission. If I wanted to use my deagle, and then switch ti my berettas I could.

Max Payne 3 gave you two pistols to carry plus a large weapon. I couldn't fight through the favelas with my automatic shotgun or glocks. Cause they werent accesable throughout the mission.

I didn't really like that. Having your weapons taken from you constantly, and only being limited to what's available through the level.

TL;DR: Less player freedom - Less fun. More weapons to carry - A bigger variaty of stratery through a mission.

There's one major difference between the games & it's so obvious, I'm not even going to say it.

Classic GTA Weapon Inventory, with RDR weapon wheel (which is what we're getting).

Where's the fun in going on a rampage with a maximum of 3 weapons?

There's 12 weapon slots. Much like the previous GTA's where we had a slot for a pistol, sub machine gun, assault rifle, sniper rifle, heavy weapon, grenades, etc.

Unarmed, Melee (Not just knife WTF! LOL), Pistol/Revolver, Shotgun, SMG, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Heavy (I think that those LMG we've seen on the screenshot will belong here along with Miniguns and such...), Thrown! Other icons might be used for "items", one of each might be "quest" item slot...My money on remaining three slots are - "gift" items slot, other "quest" items slot and the last one "useful" items slot, like you know binoculars and stuff!

Psychotic Mind

There may be alot of different slots, but nobody is saying you have to use that many weapons. If you want it more realistic just carry only a pistol and a knife. Personally i'd prefer to store larger weapons in a safe house or vehicle. But whatever. I'm just happy there will be a large amount of weapons, I felt IV was lacking in that department especially melee. Also looking forward to melee with Trevor.

Yes & I'm glad. I'm all for realism, but only up until the point where it becomes restrictive & ultimately 'less fun'.

I wonder if they go the whole hog & allow you to carry (or have access to) every weapon you've purchased or unlocked so far (like RDR).

I can imagine we all know that, according to recent previews of GTA 5, we'll be able to have 12 weapon slots. Is it just me, or is anyone else bummed out about this? Max Payne 3 seemed to handle it's weapon system good, with the player being able to carry two handguns and one gun that takes two hands to use (shotguns, rifles, etc.) Personally, I think that GTA 5 should've went with Max Payne 3's weapon system, since it seems kinda silly for a guy to walk down the street with 12 different guns, plus ammo. Or maybe that's what makes GTA GTA. Who knows.

I haven't played max payne 3 but i like the system. I usually only even use three-four guns when i play GTA

If there were a Mod or a Hardcore setting or something that had the Max Payne weight system or just a One Big Two Small weapon system....I'd definitely try it out...

But as default I'm happy with GTA Classic or RDR Weapon systems. Particularly if Multiplayer handles weapons in a similar way to RDR.

I know that, I already said it in an earlier post. What I'm saying is, will we be able to carry EVERY weapon in the entire game, which is what you could do in RDR. When the weapon wheel is open & you highlight a weapon, you can press the left/right on the d-pad to scroll through every weapon in that class. I doubt we will, because they said you'll have to pick your weapon set before you go on a heist.

So don't imply that I should shoot myself. Just pay more attention when reading (if that comment was directed at me). God, trying to be schooled by someone who's been here five minutes. suicidal.gif

There's gonna be a weapons wheel just like RDR right? Can't go wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

I never brought up Fallout. I never even played Fallout, aside from watching a few gameplay videos on it off Youtube. And when did I ever say that I wouldn't play GTA 5 if they didn't use the Max Payne 3 inventory? You're just putting words into my mouth, and that isn't cool. That isn't cool at all.

MP3 was linear, it would be weird to have 12 guns, including rocket-launchers, snipers, handguns, submachineguns, assault-rifles in a single level.

Same as it would be weird to only have 3 weapons in a huge game like GTA V, i don't want to drive to my house just to get my rocket-launcher.

See what i mean?

Max Payne 3 was a realitively realistic, 3rd person shooter, it's weapon system being limited to 3 weapons 2 if you were dual weilding, made sense in the context.

With GTA which while becoming more realistic is an open world crime game, notorious for being able to cause carnage. So the RDR style weapon select (which I'm a fan of) mixed with the old school GTA weapon classes, makes sense, and I'm glad it's that way.

I want to be walking down the road, and be able to pull an RPG-7 out of thin air, or maybe my ass, depending on which theory you subscribe to, and start causeing carnage. I wouldn't have liked that in Max Payne 3, it made it unique and feel a bit tactical which fit in the shooter Max Payne 3. GTA is about freedom, and one of those freedoms is to carry some weapons with you.

Works fine for what GTA is, just like Max Payne 3's worked well in what that game is.

I'm sure there was some debate in the R* war room about how they were going to do the weapon system, but if i'm being honest, i don't wanna be limited in weapons when playing GTA. Period. 12 slot weapon wheel will be perfect.

Wait wait. Do you mean 12 slots for whatever the hell we want?

f*ck YEAH!

I'm going to have a grenade launcher and a rocket launcher, molotovs AND grenades, a flamethrower, a minigun, a chainsaw, a bat, and 4 different types of machine gun.

None of the above. I think it should be like Manhunt, where all weapons are visible on the player. Rockstar North made Manhunt.

Well that hasn't been said yet, it's most likely one weapon per catagory like past GTA games.

Though I'd love it if we got to take what ever we wanted.

Still, I find some of the arguments funny.

"Oh no, we can carry 12 weapons! The believability of a game where rednecks stand on top of crashing trains and rich guys fly military jets is totally ruined!"
