Braindawg
My point exactly. What's the point of making fictional cities if everything else is going to mention the real world? That's GTA for ya. Get over it.
ALeSsAnDrO
Theres really nothing to discuss... do you want Dan Houser to make his own songs for the game? Actually, most of the songs in GTA 3 were created for the game, featuring fictional bands/artists. Starting with Vice City, R* started using real music. Sure many people loved VC because of the 80's songs, but the fictional music was a tradition from older games. Those songs were parodying real life music. It was an extension of the GTA universe and further added to the parody. It's too bad they dropped that.

You can still see some CD's in IV with these fictional bands on them, I guess OG Loc is one as well. My favourite was Sunshine Shine 'Mine until Monday', the boyband parody in LCS. Here's a little snippet I'm leavin' on Monday I'm goin' out of town We shouldn't waste any time Are you gonna go down on me Transcript of Lips106 & lyrics. El Tarantula
Some of the songs on the Beat 101.7 were recorded especially for gta by real artists like "Here in Liberty City" by Termanology. and there was another freestyle session about LC. I thought that was cool but honestly I don't care.
Dope_0110
I can not believe the stupidity of posts lately, and this one's just on top of the pile. Why would anyone be bothered by songs mentioning real life locations. And how the hell do you come up with the bullsh*t idea of recording songs just for GTA. You obviously don't understand a first thing about business side of GTA. Each and every song they used is payed for, and that's not some pocket change that they must pay for the right to use a song. And the getting the artist to re-record part of songs would be even more expensive. They can afford some exclusives, but never all of them. Also many artists are dead, so what about them. And the most important thing, it RUINS THE SONG. If they put in Tupac's ''To Live and Die in LA'' (just using it as an example) in GTA V, even if he was alive and would re-record part of it, I know the song and lyrics as it is, I don't want to listen to some ''To live and die in LS'' song.. that would seem out of place for anyone who knows the original songs.. but really, after all those topics, obeying traffic lights, not hurting animals, feeding the dog, now this.. where does it end? _L1pE_
In GTA Universe all the real life stuff still exists, there are just some off shore cities where GTA games take place in that are suspiciously similar to cities in mainland and that are also very hipster and don't have any of the mainstream stuff while having only brands that are suspiciously similar to the mainstream stuff. Getzmunney
That always had kinda irked me a bit, but there's not much Rockstar can do about it, they can't change the songs (well I suppose you never know with today's technology) So yeah I agree with you does kind throw you out of the fictional universe, but still, not much they can do. Maybe in GTA X hahha. True, I remember GTA 4 had some dude by the name of Mavado re-record some song he did by the name of Real McCoy to mention the Liberty City boroughs before the song started. If only Rockstar can get in touch with these rappers and politely ask them if they could re-record a song and mention "Ganton" rather than "Compton". It would make the world feel much more "complete". See sometimes you dont act like an asshole and are actually a cool dude. You must do the sh*t for fun. Argon
OP, Would you really like to hear [Robotic voice] 'San Andreas, knows how to party, San Andreasss, knows how to partyyyy' [/Robotic voice] , without grinding your teeth? The music has always been a universe breaker, but (in my opinion) is also one of the greatest aspects of the series. Just replacing a few words is not going to stop me from recognizing the real-life artists and the song.

Imagine how much it costs already to have permission for the songs to feature in the game.
