iNero
Before deleting tweets, senior engineer at Electronic Arts blasts struggling platform, saying "Nintendo are still operating like it's 1990." One Electronic Arts developer has taken to Twitter to sound off on the struggling Wii U. As spotted by IGN, EA senior software engineer and architect Bob Summerwill did not hold back when expressing his feelings for the platform. "The Wii U is crap," Summerwill said, before deleting that tweet and all others. "Less powerful than an Xbox 360. Poor online/store. Weird tablet. Nintendo are walking dead at this point." "Sony, MS, Apple, Google all following the same playbook," he added. "Standard, powerful, hardware, with focus on software and services." Summerwill suggested that Nintendo should have exited the hardware business and instead shopped around its major titles to Microsoft and Sony. "Nintendo are still operating like it's 1990," he said. "They should have 'done a Sega' and offered Mario/Zelda as PS4/Durango exclusives. Instead they make this awful console. Just stop it! Just make great games!" Summerwill has worked at EA in a number of technical roles since 1999. His comments came a day after EA confirmed that after releasing four games for Wii U, the publisher has no new titles in development for the system. By comparison EA supported the original Wii throughout its lifespan with 78 total games. http://www.gamespot.com/news/ea-engineer-s...is-crap-6408550 Harsh words if you ask me But he might be right. Almost all Devs said that the Hardware is crap. Like Metro Last Light Dev said it slow as f*ck and therefore they cant bring Metro on WiiU. Which is emberassing for Nintendo as it even works on the 360 and PS3

MrcTOtheJ
That sucks for Nintendo, very much. I guess nobody don't have interest on the Wii U at all sadly. Well they're still playing catch up after the Wii. The Wii U is current gen specs coming out right as the next gen is geting announced. Not to mention several devlopers are bashing on it, it seems. Yeah it's understandable why no one besides Nintendo them selves are even paying attention. Anyhow I agree, Nintendo should go the way of Sega, and devlop on the PS/nextbox, been saying this for years. They should however keep their own handhelds going since they have that market on lock down since the GameBoy and haven't screwed it up. They should either kick it into high gear with a console that can compete on the next gen level, or like I said, and the EA guy said, go the way of Sega. Yeah I know it's harsh but after the catch up after the Wii which sold like hot cakes for a few years then the Gimmick wore off, people shruged off their home consoles, and then they came out with the Wii U got some attention, and well, droped the ball with it just being Current Gen with a touch screen controller. RedDragonsBOOM
Im just curious if Nintendo can stay in the home console market if this WiiU fails like the Gamecube did. I mean can Nintendo afford the WiiU to flop?
Grand Theft Savage
I agree. WiiU is crap. I've always loved GameBoy, I was a huge fanboy of GameCube, but this Wii sh*t is just retarded...
acmilano
Right after Nintendo refuse to hand over their entire online aspect to EA and their s*itty Origin. Yeah, seems legit.(Sarcasm).
Chukkles
I love Zelda games, I have had to just accept I won't be playing one ever again. I had a wii, and I know how bad third party developers are on there. Ok some Nintendo games are cool, but it's not enough to justify buying a U. darthYENIK
The hardware itself doesn't seem like crap, but how Nintendo runs it seems like they're stuck in some late 80s early 90s paradigm, where Mario is king and the most intriguing story in video games was Zelda. They got by on sells in the Wii generation because of motion controls and gimmicks that got old people to buy into the console. Those same old people have since moved on to iPads, and don't give a crap that the Wii U controller looks like one. Casual games bring new customers, hardcore games keep them coming back, and Nintendo has less and less of those each generation.

The hardware seems to be worse than 360 and ps3 if you assume the statements of the Metro devs who said that the WiiU is too slow. Apart from that, the Price of the WiiU was way too high considering the actual hardware that was in it. The Hardware it has is no "NextGen" at all. I mean most Puishers alsready said that their engines wont work with WiiU because of the Hardware AND the small market it has
Alick
I never was much of a Nintendo fan, always went with Sega then on to the Playstation. But I have loved my Gameboys/DS's. But our Wii has been collecting dust since 2008. Nintendo relying heavily on gimmicks is slowly driving third party support away, actual gamers don't care about that crap, if they can't sell to casual gamers and the older generation who are all about mobile now, who can they sell too? Also betting on the same horse again that their underpowered console will win again was a bad move. Especially since we now have the actual next gen consoles coming. They don't stand a chance. It'd be sad to see them go the way of Sega, but I honestly think it's the best thing for them to do.

"Still 1990, you don't wanna sell our stuff? You're complete sh*t!". Nintendo makes the biggest crap on the market I mean in thebpast they had great ideas and games but now they only sell the 1000st zelda and mario without any innovations. SA actually has some pretty popular games like Battlefield and the Sport Franchises like FIFA. Dead Space and Mass Effect are pretty popular too. Nintendo just has idiotic marketing combined with bad hardware. I mean Ubisoft is another publisher who already mentioned their problems with the WiiU. It's not about wanting to sell their games, EA wanted the entire online infrastructure for the Wii U to be based on Origin with them having complete control. No matter how you feel about EA, Origin or Nintendo, that is a sh*tty proposition and it makes complete sense for Nintendo to deny it.
The Pizza Delivery Guy
As a resident Nintendo hater, this doesn't surprise me in the least. The over the top price tag on hardware that is about equivalent to my grandma's laptop is dooming the Wii U. It was outdated before it was even released if you count the raging rumours for PS4/XBox whatever. How dare they claim exclusivity for future Sonic games as well? That really grinds my gears because I never had any intention whatsoever of purchasing a Wii U. It's an Xbox with an iPad for a controller. We don't need that, and Microsoft did even better with motion controls in the kinect which I've never used and I hear is trash but couldn't be any worse than the Wii U. Durden
Poor Nintendo... They just don't fit with today's desire for hardcore gaming experiences. Even the casual gamers are starting to think the Wii-U isn't hardcore enough for them.
GTAfan786
As much as i hate EA, this guy made me f*cking laugh out loud. It's pretty much true, Nintendo claimed it's a next gen console when it can't even keep up with the 360, let alone the PS3. It's processor is SLOW as f*ck and doesn't even have good graphics card. The good thing however is that it has a decent amount of RAM in it.
Master of San Andreas
I don't think the Wii U is crap but it's more like disappointing IMO, from a company who made the NES, DS and the Wii you really expected much more.

DarrinPA
Not every single thing a company does is going to be a mega hit, but Nintendo has done so much for making gaming what it is today. He just sounds like a whiney baby. If he doesn't like the system then don't work with it, but DON'T burn your bridges considering that Nintendo can come out with something ground breaking again in which case EA would want to design for. But Spec wise, while the Wii U isn't 'bad' per se Nintendo will have to play catch up seeing as it came out the year before the next gen console wave started. But yeah they've relied on their first party stuff and their gimicks for to long, it got allot of early casual sales as you said, and then droped off because no one cared. They need to drop the motion ontroll and touch screen gimicks and get some serious power out there if they still want to contend with the other home consoles. Still I'm an advocate of them just going Handheld only, or using other consoles as well as their handhelds to get their IP's out there at this point.
