Comparing the map sizes of Skyrim and Just Cause 2 in relation to V:s map is idiotic. Just Cause was a copy-paste nightmare with no "finesse" to the map design.

Skyrim is indeed big, but nowhere near as dense in detail and "working parts" than a GTA city usually is.

For all the hype, I found Skyrim to be a bit bland. And in desperate need for a new engine – some of the people in it look like they have faces made of wood..

Are you kidding me?

The entire Skyrim map is hand crafted.. From the mountains to plains, dungeons and caves, even books and individually placed plants/potions ect.. Every building is enterable and fully textured on the inside and even an entire underground location that's nearly 1/4th the size of the entire map, literally hundreds of interiors to explore along with some quest given by nearly any NPC you speak to. The detail in Skryim is what makes it beyond so many other games.

It's really too bad you can't enjoy such a well crafted and massive game cause you don't like how some NPC faces look... lol YOu must also be the 12 year old posting threads about how GTAV's gonna suck cause their foliage textures aren't good enough for you..

Hand crafted or not, it still feels "lifeless". And I highly doubt it is FULLY handcrafted. Items spawn randomly etc..

And I'm not 12yo, been playing video games for 20+ years and I have never bitched about some trivial textures. If you read my post, I never alluded to any textures in particular.

I just found the same kind of emptiness and stiffness in the game world as Fallout 3 had.

And yes, some of the NPCs looked horrible.

Both of you have a point.

Skyrim is entirely hand crafted in the sense that no two places are architecturally the same, however there's a lot of texture repetition going on.

It's a pretty amazing game, casual gamers might be amazed by it but GTA players have higher standards and naturally, nitpick about details like the NPCs and the overall clunky feel of the game.

Dragons are amazing, but other than that animation is pretty poor and the game lacks sense of weight. Characters just float around and physics are dodgy at best.

Bethesda is far from being a great developer, at least to me, but with Skyrim being a best seller, they really need to raise their standards and stop churning out crap like Fallout.

Rockstar have a lot more style and, honestly, their games are worlds better. Be it open world or not.

NEVER compare Rockstar to Bethesda! Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim lagged like hell. It took them 4 patches to fix the lag in Skyrim! If they delayed the game they could have released it and it would have ran pretty well but NOPE!! they wanted to release it on a stupid f*cking date like 11/11/11. Oooo it's all 1's...our game is better!!

Rockstar obviously had some troubles with the game or it'd be out by now! They delayed the game and spent more time on it and they WILL delay it again if they need to. Rockstar won't release it until they are happy with it. They always release high quality games.

That being said I'm not worrying about V. I've never had a problem with the performance of any Rockstar game I've played. It will be no different for V. Sure it won't be perfect and it might have pop in or an unsteady frame rate but it will be the best they can do and that's good enough for me. They will release some patches after release because naturally when millions of people play it some bugs will appear that they didn't come across in their own testing.

Don't worry. Rockstar ARE NOT Bethesda. That means the product you purchase is playable on release date with no patches. It will not be perfect (what is?) but you will be able to play it and enjoy it.

thnx for your'e reaction,

it is true tough, skyrim had to be released on a stupid 11/11/11 date...

and i've never had mayor problems with a rockstar game, besides sometimes with gta iv, gta iv was dark and not finished, i quess rockstar was just trying to get to know the hardware better from the current gen consoles, but they made that up to many people when releasing red dead redemtion and mp3, l.a noire. and like i said in previous comments, i dont botter having some texture pop ins, and here and there some framerate issues, only when the game freezes and chashes more than once (10/15 times) then the fun will be sort of over for me, but until now no other game froze/chashed so many times besides skyrim.

and i know for sure they will release gta V on september 17th, because they showed a almost finished demo but i'm glad they took the extra 4 months to make is as good as it gets on the current gen consoles, and multiple discs on the x360 version aint a problem, and if the 360 hardware could run games such as Far Cry 3, tomb raider 2013, bioshock with almost to no lagg, i have faith in this game biggrin.gif

Jesus... now these morrons call Skyrim 'crap' just to show tbeyre fanboys... i know its a gtaforum. But there is a difference between being a fan and a fanboy...

Skyrim was one of the best games I played ( xbox ). It had some bugs but if you watch the huge scale and content it had there is no need to mention these bugs.i had no gamebreaker at all, like in some other gagas. The Graphics are awesome and the only point i hated about it was the sluggish movement on console. Peoe should be glad when R* is able to reach a framerate like Skyrim with this scale.

Yeah, GTA IV was their first open world game this generation so they were still new to the hardware and RAGE (engine). It's completely understandable that the game didn't run that well at some times. They made improvements with the release of the DLC. It had improved draw distance and other performance enhancements.

With Red Dead Redemption they really made a lot of progress. Sure, some of it has to do with the fact the game is set in a different time. There are no cars, a big city with skyscrapers or hundreds of pedestrians to render. Redemption was just countryside and desert with small little towns and the odd animal/traveler passing by. That game run so well with a smooth frame rate but it still had some pop in. Pop in is caused by slow access time and low amounts of memory. You will get more pop in with a system that has a 5400r HD and only 512mb RAM compared to a machine that has an SSD with 8GB RAM! so it's something they can't really do much about just now on current hardware.

That all being said, the RAGE engine has improved a lot since IV which came out over 5 years ago! They have it finely tuned and they have over 5 years of experience with current generation hardware so they know how to squeeze every last bit of performance out of it. That's how they can get a huge game like GTA V to run on it. It won't be perfect but they are somewhat limited by hardware. They will make the most of what little they have.

I've never had a Rockstar game crash on me. Yeah, I've seen pop in and low frame rate but it doesn't stop me enjoyable the game. Skyrim crashed countless times. I'm not worried about V because Rockstar won't release it until it's in a really stable state.

Games like Bioshock Infinite an Tomb Raider are linear games I believe. Not sure about the latest Tomb Raider but Bioshock Infinite is. You can't really compare them to open world games. If you compare Max Payne 3 and GTA V there are a lot of differences. Max Payne 3 will have better graphics because it's not using up as much processing power as V. open world games need to render huge areas of land, vehicles and other stuff but in a small linear game like Max Payne 3 they only have to load certain things that you will see as you progress along the game. For example in Max Payne 3 at the start they are on a building and you can see out over the city but that isn't rendered. It's just a background image. The only things rendered are only the areas you can visit and the people you interact with or items you use. In an open world game you'd need to render everything that you see in the distance because you can actually go there.

Sorry for the huge post!!!

skyrim was a good game but it was not finished, bethesda didnt wrote the game good qua graphics pop in, everything was already rendered from miles away, that is what causes the lagg and crashes, rockstar is a much better company and makes polished games, just as ubisoft, and to be honest, i love skyrim but bcause of the lagg/ game crashes i stopped playing cause it went verry anoying

I think you refer to me.

I didn't say Skyrim was a crap game. I loved it. I put in well over 100 hours. It really is a great game. However you can't deny that Bethesda f*cked the launch up. They released the game to meet a stupid date like 11/11/11. The game was released with a sh*t tonne of bugs and after so long the game would lag bad and end up freezing. That happened web I played it. Lagging during fights, dying, starting from the latest save to only get stuck in an invisible wall then having to restart again then experience a crash later on is no fun.

It took them months to even improve the lag. If they had just delayed the game it wouldn't have half the problems it did.

Bethesda make good games but the quality of performance is sh*t. They need to do more testing before they release a game. You don't release broken games.

Sorry for the huge post!!!

please don't bother posting huge post, i like huge post to explain more,

and as we already said, Gta Iv was rockstar's first game on the xbox 360/ps3 hardware,

Red dead redemption was indeed a masive open-world game with lots of detail but no big city's, but the system was so well designed, for example look at the bullet impact on someone, if being shot in the arm the target was blown backwards with that arm, the kill system was so good it looks just like a real gun shot and the impact too.

and indeed the crashing of skyrim was so anoying at a moment i stopped playing, it crashed every time because the game wasn't good designed, but indeed R* would not release such an important game for the end of the 360/ps3 generation, but i believe the game is almost finished and wil be released on september 17th for sure, because they showed an almost finished game to the press and they where blown away. im really looking forward to GTA V, and i'm just a bit worried that game crashes will ruin my fun to play Gta V. just as with skyrim,

i've had the same with Far cry 3, but that turned out to be good and didn't crashed once in a 150 hour of gameplay.

so i'm starting to get a much better feeling about Gta V's preformance.

Nobody said Skyrim was crap.

And R* def doesn't need lessons from other devs let alone one like Bethesda.

Let's not even compare the draw distance of GTA vs Skyrim, or the fact that R* managed to create a seamless streaming world (no loading screens between interior and outdoor areas) while Bethesda is pretty much in the stone age in that regard.

I could go on and on about things like art direction, physics, etc. But it's not necessary.

In fact, I don't think they even care when it comes to polishing the engine or technical issues.

I love the insane detail they put in their games, but really, it's pretty much the only thing setting them apart.

Yeah no, never comment the technical proficiency of a Bethesda game. Skyrim is a load of crap, and if you think current gen consoles can handle it, I have three things to say. P...S....3

Of course GTA V won't be unplayable!

Even GTA 4 was playable even though it had lags during shootouts.

Rockstar is not in the "idiotic, RUSHing developers" category to release unfinished games. suicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gif

i know, but just because it is the end of the current gen and it is such an masive open world game i am just worried it is going to lagg and crash often, ofcourse i've got faith in rockstar and i never had any problems with one of there games, and the extra 4 months they took wont be for nothing i guess

I guess there will be a few problems but nothing big. IV froze on me a few times but not so much, it was like 1/100 times so its not even a problem. I also had no other issues like glitches or bugs, but that was X360.

Recently I played RDR again but this time on PS3 and I am stuck at West Dickens mission because of some gamebreaking glitch where his stupid cart starts to go under the ground and the people chasing start flying and Marston cant move. I cant even complete this game again because I cant find any solutions for this particular mission.

Now, it could be a bad copy or because its a used one I bought recently, im not sure of the problem but if something like this happens with V on ps3, that would be unacceptable. Ihope V will be smooth with zero gamebreaking glitches. I dont care about the minor problems or occasional freezes.

yes i know, i've only had some game crashes online on Gta iv, and believe it or not but i finished RDR 9 times without any problems, but that is at my x360.

and i dont care if Gta V crashes 1/2 times but more then 10 is starting to get anoying, and average draw distance aint a problem either. but there will always be a problem in a game, could be big or minor, but i know rockstar games and played their games for 9+- years now and they never released a unfinished product.

hopefully they will show us a littlebit of gameplay tomorrow at the Xbox reveal biggrin.gif

R* said that GTA V was made on the "new" Rage Engine...was this advancment in the engine after Red Dead? or was Red Dead made during this "advancement?" .....either way it sounded as if there have been some developments with the engine so I would venture to say things should be fine.

I think the fact that this is coming at the end of the console generation actually works in our favor. I think they are swinging for the fences on this one and are looking to hit the mark not just of Game of the Year but Game of the Generation. I think that plays into the delay as well. They are not going to release it until it meets their expectations and what they feel our expectations are. I really believe they are wanting to make a statement with this game that it will be the one that defined the current generation of consoles. I have faith this game is going to blow us all away! biggrin.gif

I have both the 360 and PS3 and as of now I was planning on getting the 360 version. For me it really boils down to the controller being more comfortable....unless something comes out before release that says it runs better on the PS3 then I'll get it for that one....R* knows this is their last ever GTA on the current generation. I truly believe they are one of the few companies out there that this means something too.. they are not going to go out without something very, very special...

R* said that GTA V was made on the "new" Rage Engine...was this advancment in the engine after Red Dead? or was Red Dead made during this "advancement?" .....either way it sounded as if there have been some developments with the engine so I would venture to say things should be fine.

i also think it will be just fine, only it is the end of the x360/ps3 gen and im just worried the console cant handle GTA V, but i forgot the engine is all the same only customized, and i've never had an R* that failed on me so i think GTA V will be great biggrin.gif

i think you have a point there, now that rockstar knows the hardware from the current gen console they can get the maximum out of it, they could test and make it better with Gta iv, RDR, L.a noire and max payne, know they know what the console can do they are making the engine so it fits perfectly into the current gen hardware,

may i ask if you are gonna play on the x360 or ps3 (not to bring the other console down, just curious)

I have both the 360 and PS3 and as of now I was planning on getting the 360 version. For me it really boils down to the controller being more comfortable....unless something comes out before release that says it runs better on the PS3 then I'll get it for that one....R* knows this is their last ever GTA on the current generation. I truly believe they are one of the few companies out there that this means something too.. they are not going to go out without something very, very special...

i think your'e right, and rockstar is busy developing the game for current gen consoles for over 4/5 years, so i think they make it as good as it could be, just to compare, AC black flag will run like sh*t for sure, and SR iv could run good but rockstar is by far one of the best devs from this generation, and hopefully next gen too.
